Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.
Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.
Yes, Hounded is now one of my favorite books, and the Iron Druid Chronicles will most likely will be a favorite series. I read this for a read-along in March, and I am so happy I did! It had so many aspects that I love, and I honestly can’t say one bad thing about this book. Hounded is full of laugh-out-loud humor, great characters, an awesome storyline, and some serious arse-kicking.
There are so many great characters in this book, but I’m going to start with Atticus. Oh, how love my Atticus O’Sullivan! If he were real, he would either be my Irish plaything, or there would be a restraining order against me. C’mon, he’s Irish, sexy, witty, tough, compassionate … do I need to go on? Not to mention he has one of the coolest dogs ever. Oberon is an Irish Wolfhound who loves sausages and French poodles. I adore the relationship between Atticus and Oberon, it goes beyond master and pet; their friendship is genuine and loyal.
Seriously, I could list all of the characters that I love, but that will take forever! A couple of my top favorites are: The Morrigan, a death goddess who has a deal with Atticus; Leif, the Viking vampire lawyer; and Granuaile, a… well, you’ll have to just see for yourself. It’s ridiculous how much I love them all, even the bad guys. Well, I don’t love-love the bad guys, but I love what they brought to the story.
Hounded is such an all around kick-arse book. The action scenes were great! I love how Atticus thought things out, and he knew when to fight and when to let things slide. Someone doesn’t get to be 2,100 years old by being stupid and irrational. Also, the humor was probably my favorite part of the book, even the little puns made me laugh. I can’t believe how many funny quotes I wrote down.Honestly, I don’t even know what else to say. I just want to express how freaking amazing this book is! I’m torn between devouring the next books in the series now, or spreading them out so I can make them last longer. If you haven’t read Hounded, you seriously need to get on it!
