Dinosaurs have always been a large topic of interest, especially regarding their origins. The term dinosaur originated from the scientific term ‘Dinosauria’, which refers to a group of animals with different living styles.

Dinosaurs were reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic era, about 165 million years ago and are now extinct. They were subpredators to crocodiles and other birds. However, even though they’re long gone, they have left behind several clues through fossil records as to what they looked like and how they might have lived.

The study of dinosaurs has a long and rich history. In the early days of dinosaur research, scientists were unsure about how these creatures fit into the greater scheme of life on Earth. Many thought that they were just large reptiles, while others believed that they were a separate group of animals altogether. It wasn’t until the late 19th century that dinosaurs were finally classified as a distinct group of animals.

Scientists now know that dinosaurs are a type of reptile, and they can be further divided into two main groups: the Saurischia and the Ornithischia. The Saurischia include theropods like Tyrannosaurus rex and sauropods like Diplodocus, while the Ornithischia include groups like the armored ankylosaurs and the horned ceratopsians.

While the study of dinosaurs is always evolving, there are a few things that scientists are fairly certain about when it comes to their origin. For example, we know that they first appeared during the Triassic period, around 250 million years ago. We also know that they were the dominant group of land animals for over 100 million years, until their sudden disappearance at the end of the Cretaceous period.

The descendants of today’s snake and lizard species appeared when the weather got tolerable. Another group of reptiles evolved into plant-eating rhynchosaurs when the climate became more endurable in the late Triassic period.

Some reptiles such as ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, and mosasaurs returned to the water. At the same time, in land the archosaurs split into two groups, one of which gave rise to crocodiles and birds, and the other to dinosaurs. The first dinosaurs were bipedal carnivores that appeared during the late Triassic period.

They were small creature no taller than a human child and weighed less than 25 kg. Dilophosaurus is one of the most famous early dinosaurs; it was about 6 m long, 1.8 m tall at the hips, and weighed 400-600 kg. It had a pair of rounded crests on its skull and was probably venomous.
