Sasha Stone knows her place—first-chair clarinet, top of her class, and at the side of her oxford-wearing boyfriend. She’s worked her entire life to ensure that her path to Oberlin Conservatory as a star musician is perfectly paved.
But suddenly there’s a fork in the road, in the shape of Isaac Harver. Her body shifts toward him when he walks by, her skin misses his touch even though she’s never known it, and she relishes the smell of him—smoke, beer, and trouble—all the things she’s avoided to get where she is. Even worse, every time he’s near Sasha, her heart stops, literally. Why does he know her so well—too well—and she doesn’t know him at all?
Sasha discovers that her by-the-book life began by ending another’s: the twin sister she absorbed in the womb. But that doesn’t explain the gaps of missing time in her practice schedule or the memories she has of things she certainly never did with Isaac. As Sasha loses her much-cherished control, her life—and heart—become more entangled with Isaac. Armed with the knowledge that her heart might not be hers alone, Sasha must decide what she’s willing to do—and who she’s willing to hurt—to take it back.
What the eff … ? This Darkness Mine is a trip! I was not expecting the ride this book took me on, but damn, was it ever good. I couldn’t put it down!
I thought this would be a run-of-the-mill mystery/thriller, but it definitely is not. It’s twisted, thrilling, and had me questioning everything. I didn’t know what exactly to believe, and I can’t tell you how much I love that.
Not going to lie, Sasha freaks me out. And I love it! She’s such an unsettling character, and I couldn’t resist getting completely drawn in by her. I also love Brooke. She’s definitely … interesting. 😀
The writing has a sharpness to it that fits Sasha’s voice perfectly. It also adds an intensity to the overall disturbing vibe of the story. It gave me chills at times.
I don’t want to say much else because this is a book best experienced without too much input. Just dive in and enjoy!
Update: I wrote the above weeks ago after reading the book, and I’ve grown to love it even more since then.
Oh… nice. I love when a mystery book keeps me on my toes especially when it comes to the characters.
Sasha is certainly one of those characters. 😀
Well now me curious. I love that unsettled feeling!!
You should read this one.
While I was reading this I was wondering if you had a copy because I just knew it would be something you would like. Gotta love those crazy unreliable narrators!
Sasha is my kind of crazy! lol.
This does sound freaky just from the premise, and I’m glad it delivered with all the twisty trippiness!
This sounds really interesting. I’m going to have to check this out. *off to see if the library has it on audio* 🙂
Who the eff is Brooke??? I’m squeamed out just reading the synopsis and your review… 😀
OUTSTANDING!!!!
I love when a book becomes even BETTER as time goes on and you’re thinking back on it. I’m even more excited to read this one now. It sounds awesome!

I was so curious about this book! I loved the Female sof the Species! you are right, Mindy’s is exquisitely sharp! SO READING IT!!!
I love when a book surprises me. This sounds like one I would love to read.
Well, now I want to read it. And like, right now! :p
I skipped this one because I read her book last fall that started out so great but then it fell off the rails. I will see if I can get this from my library. You have me curious.
There’s been a lot of hot and cold for this one! I’m glad it ran hot for you. The blurb is spectacular!
Great review.
Huh? I may have to try to get my hands on a copy of this one. It sounds exactly like my kind of read. Thanks for putting it on my radar!
You made me really curious now and I confess that I didn’t even know about it!
Reading at the sypnosis, I thought this one is going to be purely romance. And my I was so delighted to know that its more than that. Added to my list!
Now i am curious about this book. It sounds wickedly awesome. ☺
Okay, you have me completely curious about this one. This sounds perfect for me. Sometimes unsettling is perfect especially at this time of the year. 🙂
Wow, sounds SO good; it’s tempting. Now, I’m curious. One of my weaknesses is when someone said a book is awesome. Hehe. Thanks for sharing, Christy. Need to check this one out especially the author. She’s new to me. Fantastic review. ?❤️??
Saw the trailer for this book on Youtube recently and became curious. It definitely sounds like a great story. Thanks to your awesome review I’m for sure getting a copy 🙂
really glad to hear you loved this, now I have to pick it up. I kind of moved on because so many people whined about it but now…
Oooooh, you have my attention! Unsettled huh? characters like that are the best!
Ooh Christy this sounds brilliant! Usually YA thrillers are pretty predictable I’ve found but I love a darker read! Really looking forward to grabbing a copy. Brilliant review and love seeing how impactful it is even weeks after you’ve finished <3
I had to read this review because I was thinking McGinnis was the author of The Female of the Species…which I read because of your review and I loved it. Guess I’ll be adding this one to my wish list. I love a story that is so twisty I’m at a complete loss as to what or whom to believe. Chilling and has you still thinking about it weeks later? Yep. A must read! 🙂
