Swim. Eat. Shower. School. Snack. Swim. Swim. Swim. Dinner. Homework. Bed. Repeat.
All of Maggie's focus and free time is spent swimming. She's not only striving to earn scholarships—she's training to qualify for the Olympics. It helps that her best friend, Levi, is also on the team, and cheers her on. But Levi's already earned an Olympic tryout, so Maggie feels even more pressure to succeed. And it's not until Maggie's away on a college visit that she realizes how much of the "typical" high school experience she's missed by being in the pool.
No one to shy away from a challenge, Maggie decides to squeeze the most out of her senior year. First up? Making out with a guy. And Levi could be the perfect candidate. After all, they already spend a lot of time together. But as Maggie slowly starts to uncover new feelings for Levi, how much is she willing to sacrifice in the water to win at love?
Coming Up for Air is the final book in the Hundred Oaks series, so it’s a bit bittersweet. I’ve read and enjoyed all eight books, but Catching Jordan and Stealing Parker are my absolute favorites. With Catching Jordan, it was the humor and wonderful characters – Sam is the man! With Stealing Parker, it was a very emotional read for me. This may not be my favorite book, but it’s still a delightful read.
The series ends with Maggie and Levi, both highly competitive swimmers who have aspirations for the Olympics. They’ve been best friends for years, bonding over their love of swimming and crazy-strict schedule. Maggie realizes there are a few things she wants to do before going to college, including gaining experience in the boy department. How convenient that she has a guy for a best friend whom she feels completely comfortable with. What are friends for, right?
Gotta love a friends-to-lovers romance. I really like that Maggie and Levi’s friendship felt solid and genuine, making it believable and natural when their feelings grew into more. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, but they both had to sort through their feelings and learn to bring balance into their lives.
There are a couple things I wish would’ve been hit on a little better, but overall, it carries a really nice sex-positive message. It’s done tastefully, and I hope to see more like it in this genre.
And big awwwwwww for that epilogue! How perfect to have the series end on that note.
Overall, Coming Up for Air is a quick and cute story.
That epilogue was the best! I loved it so much. This wasn’t my favorite book in the series, for several reasons, but I still felt so sad when it was over. I wonder what Miranda will tackle next!
I liked how Miranda handled the sex in this series overall, too!!! And i could have lived in the epilogue for days!!!! Love!!!
That epilogue! I was all heart eyes over it. Catching Jordan or Breathe, Annie, Breathe will always be my favorites in this series, but I enjoyed (almost) all of them in one way or another. I’m sad to see this series come to an end!
I have to make time for this one. I love friends to lovers and am interested in the swimming aspect. Epilogues done well are the best!! Great review!
I have several friends who enjoy this series. Glad you did, too! Maybe I’ll be in the mood for this one day 🙂
I didn’t realize this was the end to the series! Crap, I guess I can’t avoid reading this one now.
I have heard that this friends to lovers romance is simply fantastic, and glad to see that you enjoyed it darling!! Have a wonderful day and hope you are enjoying the summer.
I’m super sad that this series has come to an end. I adored each and every single one of the books and while this wasn’t my favorite, I still rather enjoyed it. I’ll miss these folks and this world but I’m looking forward to seeing what Kenneally has in store for us now. Great review, Christy!
Sounds like a great friends to lovers romance. I love the sound of this book but I’m so curious about Catching Jordan and Stealing Parker after you saying they’re your most favorites. Sound awesome. Will definitely check them out.?
Thanks for sharing, hon. Always love your review. ❤️
This just didn’t feel like the ending to the series. There were a few too many loose ends for my taste, but I still liked it. I am going to miss these books from Kenneally. I wonder what she will do next?
Oh great! I am usually not a fan of ending books but this one sounds like it does a good job. Usually these kind of books I like an epilogue. Oh need to put this series on my wishlist. Brilly review.
Woah, 8 books total? I knew there were a lot! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed this one. I really need to try this author.
Well now I want to read this one just to see what that epilogue was about! This series has been on my radar for awhile and this one looks really sweet. I definitely want to check this one out!
I have almost the entire series on my Kindle but have still only read the one book, years ago now. I love that the books can be read as standalones, sometimes I just can’t commit to a contemporary series. It sounds as though that epilogue is a beautiful ending to what’s been a brilliant series of girls pushing against male dominated sports environments. Brilliant review Christy, so glad you enjoyed it <3
I haven’t read this author but this does sound good.
I can tell it ended on a high note! This series looks and sounds great like the perfect set tobinge during Summer
The end of a series is always bittersweet. It is always sad to see a group of characters you like go away. But it does make room for the author to create more new characters. Great review.
I know I’d enjoy this series…. I love sports romances, and despite being in Australia, I love gridiron reads! But, you’ve already twisted my arm today… ? I will not check this series out… ?? for long!! ??
Ohhh. I remember this book. I’ve read another positive review about it and it really intrigues me. Reading another positive review about this story/series, I guess I’ll be checking this out soon. Great review Christy 🙂
I’ve only read a few of the books in the series but I remember them all having a positive vibe and message to them. Catching Jordan was definitely my fave of the books I’d read. One day I’d like to sit down and finish out the series. Great review!
