Angel Crawford has buried her loser past and is cruising along in undead high gear—that is, until a murder-by-decapitation sends her on a hazardous detour. As Angel hunts for the killer, she uncovers a scheme that would expose zombies to the public and destroy the life she’s built, and she’s determined not to rest until she finds out who’s behind it.
Soon she’s neck-deep in lies, redneck intrigue, zombie hunters, and rot-sniffing cadaver dogs. It’s up to her to unravel the truth and snuff out the conspiracy before the existence of zombies makes headline news and she’s outed as a monster.
But Angel hasn’t quite escaped the pill-popping ghosts of her past—not with an illicit zombie pharmaceutical at her fingertips. Good thing she’s absolutely sure she can handle the drug’s unpredictable side effects and still take down the bad guys…or maybe she’s only one bad choice away from being dead meat—for real this time.
Angel knows a thing or two about kicking ass, but now the ass she needs to kick might be her own.
I don’t think I can adequately convey just how much I love this series and what a good time I have with it! White Trash Zombie Gone Wild is the 5th book and still just as strong as its predecessors. Love, love, love it!
I had a bad feeling about what Angel would face in this book, and those feelings were correct. Things take a wrong turn when a festival comes to town and a murder pulls Angel into the danger. That’s just the tip of the iceberg! There are multiple plot threads and Angel juggles it all, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming at all. Rowland does an amazing job weaving it all together in a way that has me sitting on the edge of my seat, completely engrossed. Not to mention the humor!
I swear, Angel is one of my favorite heroines! She has some of the best character growth I’ve seen, truly blossoming in a way that makes me feel incredibly proud. Yes, I’m proud of a fictional character, okay? 😉 Angel’s addictive nature rears its ugly head, and its something she has to deal with. I’m glad it touches on this and shows that it’s something that never really leaves you. But damn, don’t ever underestimate her, because she’s one clever cookie. What I especially love is her smart-ass, snarky ways that cracks up.
There are also some wonderful secondary characters that are instrumental to the story and Angel. I love the connections Angel has formed with them and how some of the relationships are evolving. It honestly brings tears to my eyes at times over how supportive of Angel they are, because she totally deserves it. There’s a certain character (name rhymes with “prick”) who has really surprised me. Not going to lie, I’m actually giddy and anticipating what’s to come with him.
I can’t recommend the audio enough! I’m not huge on audio books, more of a dabbler, and I’m super picky. When it comes to this series, I have to listen to it, because Allison McLemore is a freaking brilliant narrator.
I know people get preconceived notions about this series because of the zombie aspect, but get them out of your head! If you want a fun, exciting, touching, humorous read, then this is it. You do need to read them in order, so don’t even think about skipping around.
White Trash Zombie Gone Wild is definitely another unforgettable trip with Angel. I can’t wait for the next installment!
I still haven’t gotten around to these, but it is a when not if thing. Oh, I am so ready for a heroine like Angel.
Great review, Christy!
I need to try this series. I know that I have the first book so well one day!
I so love this series. I agree that this is an audio only series (though I have a lot of those. LOL). I took all of these books to RT to get Diana Rowland to sign them. Now I want to find Dan dos Santos to sign them too.
This series is still on-going?? I had no idea! I do really love the covers for it. That’s really awesome that the series is still going so strong. I love it when authors are able to do that with their series! Let me go see if my library has these books because I gotta meet this Angel! She sounds badass!
Completely agree the zombie bit is so different from what folks expect. I love Angel.
Dang it, I keep meaning to start this series and then I forget about it again. I need to go put the first book on my Kindle while I’m thinking about it.
I need to catch up on this series. I think I am on book four? I listened to the last two, and you are right, the narrator is really good.
I listen to the first book to this series last summer and have relatively enjoyed it. I wasn’t too keen on the eating scenes though. I was gagging every time they partook on brains. Lol.
This is the first I’ve heard of this book or series but it sure sounds interesting and definitely different.
I really want to read this series! It sounds so fun, and now the character growth sounds great too. And I literally just wrote a review the other day to be posted soon and said how I was proud of the characters, so I totally get it lol.
I love this series. Need to grab more. And I love all of the covers!
That’s awesome you’re five books in and STILL loving these – always a good sign. I have the first book on my kindle. Hopefully I can start reading that soon.
I love this series. I haven’t listened to this one yet but I have loved all of the ones that I have listened to. Audio is definitely the way to go with this series. Great review!
This is another series I keep meaning to get back to. I’m so glad to hear that it’s staying awesome! So many peter out after the first few books.
Ha – this does look like a fun series, and a narrator can make or break one for me!
Great review. I’m glad you’re enjoying it so much!
I’ve been wanting to read this series forever it seems >.< glad you are still enjoying this. I am also excited to hear it has humor in it and great characters
You’re the one that put this series on my list, and I’m really hoping to find time to start it soon! I get easily irritated by narrators overexaggerating the southern accent; I may be southern, but I’m a fast talker and I don’t believe I could get on board with the audio. But I appreciate your including the sample, and I’m glad you enjoy it. I love the sound of the character growth, and I can’t wait to get started reading these!
I listen to it on a higher speed. Actually, I listen to all audio on a faster speed because they’re all normally too slow for me. I get irritated with slow talkers. lol. But yeah, no way could I listen to these on normal speed, so it’s on at LEAST 1.25.
I’ve only read the first one and have it on audio. So need to continue them and perhaps try them all on audio. Yep, I do think audio is the way to go for me. Brilly review!
This might be the best title ever? And sweet cover. I can see where this would be a riot on audio…
Though I’ve not read the series, I remember when I saw the first hit bookstore shelves as it really made me stop to actually pick it up and read the back cover. They are always so strikingly visual!
I’ve got the first book and I really need to get to it! Happy to hear that it’s still amazing even at book 5!
My old library doesn’t have this series in any format, now that I’m in a new town, I’m hoping they have this and maybe on audio too! I’m an audio dabbler myself and I think it’s time I branch out of non fiction to fiction
* Fist Pump * I’m so glad that you are continuing to love this series! And you can be proud of a fictional character, I think that’s why we read, to get emotionally invested!
I have heard this series is fantastic! I’ll have to check it out when I get over my fantasy allergies 🙂 Great review 🙂
I haven’t heard this author before but reading this review excites me. Great review Christy 🙂
This sounds like a fun series!
I miss this series so much, I read the first 3 because they were available at the library but couldn’t find the rest of the series. I can’t believe there’s 5 now! Angel is so snarky and wonderful.
I totally had to look this series up after reading your review — which after reading all your glee and love for this, how could I not??
I tried Rowland’s other series but I think I should’ve just started with this one because that one and me just didn’t co-habitat well lol. Not only are the covers of this series gorgeous but I think the heroine is someone I would get a kick out of reading/listening to.
