Adios, April! You’ve been an awful month. Hopefully May will be kinder.
The weather has been so nice and warm, though. I love it. I’ve been wanting to grow a jalapeno plant and I finally got one. Now it just needs to be transplanted. That’s tomorrows project.
Reading has gone mostly well. I finished five books & listened to one audio book. I’ve already completed 57% of my Goodreads goal, so I’ll probably increase it. I made it a lot lower this year because I knew I wasn’t going to have as much time to read. We’ll see how it goes.

Did you see the trailer for the new Kingsman movie?! Can’t wait to see it.
April Yums
I’m not necessarily one for subscription boxes, but I knew I had to try Universal Yums! I’ve been a subscriber for 7 months and I love it. Each month I get a box filled with snacks from a different country, so I thought I’d start sharing them on here.
April’s box was from Austria!
It was pretty good. Those mini banana things are … interesting.

Have a great week!
Yay for May! Glad you had good April weather and goodluck with your jalapeno plant.
I need to start that Ilona Andrews series soonish now that I’m caught up on Innkeeper Chronicles and Kate Daniels.
Have a good week, Christy!
I’m torn between which series to start first because I know characters from this one appear in the Innkeeper Chronicles. But I couldn’t pass up a price drop. 😀
Yeah $%^& April lol. Too much rain and it was too frickin cold. And jalapenos- mmm..
White Trash Zombie lol. Love those covers!
Dude, Greg, you HAVE to read the White Trash Zombie series! If you like iZombie, then you’ll enjoy it.
I hope May is kinder to you! I am looking forward to May, and I hope I don’t regret it. LOL Way to go on your Goodreads goal! I set mine really low (13 books) on purpose. I just like seeing the percentage above 100%. 🙂
I’ll be curious for your take of On the Edge. I enjoyed it and keep meaning to read more in the series.
The Universal Yums subscription box sounds like so much fun! I am glad you are enjoying it. 🙂
I hope you have a great week, Christy, and a fantastic May!
You should try the snack subscription box. They’re fun for family and kids. It comes with a booklet that has some fun facts and games for each country. Mouse might enjoy it.
I need to watch the kingsman trailer!
Can’t wait to watch it.
I thought you were caught up on White Trash Zombies..lol. Our weather sucks. It’s freezing and has been raining for 3 days now. Yum I love the box of candy. Have a great week my friend.
I am now! 😀 The Yum box is a lot of fun to share with family and the kids. It comes with a booklet that has fun facts and information about the snacks and the country.
Yay warm weather! And ooh a jalapeno plant. I love fresh veggies and herbs and things, but I’ve never actually tried to grow one myself. Seems like too much work, and I literally wouldn’t even have the slightest clue what to do!
I used to grow a lot, but just have a few easy care plants now.
Yay, so Happy that you purchased Before I Ever Met You. I hope you enjoy and love it. It is AWESOME! Can’t wait to read your review for it. ???
Anyway, I miss you last week. I know sometimes life gets in the way. I hope you have a wonderful week. ?
Happy reading!
Thanks, Geybie! Yeah, there’s just not as much time to read or blog lately, and it sucks. 🙁
Yeah I am super ok with April being over. Wasn’t a great month for me. Hopefully May is better for both of us 🙂 A jalapeno plant sounds cool. I have always wanted to garden but I chicken out. That subscription box is very cool and yes those mini banana things are very . . . interesting. Have a great week!!
You should start with one plant in a pot. There are some pretty easy ones. The subscription box is a lot of fun to share with kids, because it comes with a booklet that has fun fact and games that educate and gets them to try new things.
I know exactly how you feel about April. I’ve been wanting to try Hatchlings and haven’t yet. I love the White Trash Zombie books too. I’m excited for the next one. I hope you love The Edge. I think it is so much fun. I hope you have a great week.
Dude, I’m so freaking in love with the cover of the next White Trash Zombie book. Hopefully I can read The Edge soon.
Sorry to hear you had a bad April. My April was actually pretty good. That’s awesome you finally got a jalapeno plant! I am also doing pretty well with my goodreads challenge. I might raise my goal eventually, not sure yet.
That universal Jums box looks great! I think I’ve eaten those mini fritts or something similar while on vacation in Switzerland once.
I hope May will be a better month for you!
Those Fritts are really good. I even put some o my salad.
Fingers crossed May will be better! And wohoo a jalapeno plant. I’m mildly obsessed with jalapeno so if I had a garden, I would totally want a plant to. That snack subscription box sounds like so much fun. It’s a clever idea! I am very curious about those mini bananas lol!
I hope you have a good week ahead!
I love hot peppers and put them on everything. Figured I’d should just grow my own. 😀
Sorry your April was crappy, hope May is crazy good to make up for it! And your yums box sounds like so much fun, what a great way to try flavours from other countries.
It is a lot of fun. There’s some interesting stuff that comes from other countries, and it’s fun to at least try them.
I’m sure your May will ROCK! I always set my goodreads challenge low because I hate when it tells me I am behind! I can’t stand that. So, I always lowball my goal so I am never behind 🙂
I hope so. 😀
Okay the international treats sounds fun! Hmm, I might have to consider it. 😉 Glad your reading is going well, I think I’m finally (fingers crossed) out of my blogging funk but, only time will tell I suppose.
You should! It’s a lot of fun for families to share with kids. There’s a booklet that has fun facts, little games, and gives background on the snacks and the country. Your kids might enjoy it. And it’s fun to experience what other countries eat. Next month will be from Japan.
Good luck with the jalapeño plant. I’d love to garden just don’t have the time if the motivation. But such a lovely notion ! Lol
Thanks Melissa. I only have a few plants that are pretty easy to care for and don’t take much time.
I hope May is better as well. Hope you get lots of jalapenos! 🙂
Happy reading and have a great week!
Stormi
Thanks, Stormi. I should really blame you (thank you?) for getting the ball rolling on the jalapeno plant. When I saw you mention yours, I knew I needed one. 😀
I used to get the Universal Yums box too! I loved it and loved trying food from all over. It’s a fun box.
I think it was your blog I first saw it on, so thanks! 😀
Wow, that’s awesome about your GR goal! I’m like at least 6-7 books behind on mine. Maybe if I can hammer on reading in summer? Haha.
Ha, I know those “banana things”. We have them over here too (I’m from Europe)
I usually have my goal at least double what it is now, so I set the bar really low this year. lol.
The banana ‘things’ are good a first, but after 3 … no. 😀
I’m sorry April wasn’t kind to you; hopefully May will be kinder. I have yet to read an Alice Clayton book, but her books seem to be very well received. I’ll be looking for your review!
There’s always some good humor in her books. Totally worth reading.
It has been a cool damp April here. Yesterday it was below 10C or 50F. Today as I write this it is sunny and 15C. Hopefully May will be kinder to you Christy. I have the Times Columnist Book sale to look forward to in May, so I can get some pretties for a good price and the money goes to libraries and reading causes. A win-win. Meanwhile, I have an essay to get back too. I hope you enjoy your books!
Oh cool, hope you get some good ones. Good luck on your essay!
I haven’t actually seen the trailer for the new Kingsman movie, but I am so excited because I loved the first! Yay for getting lots of reading one. I hope May is a much better month all around for everyone. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your subscription box; I love seeing those!
-Lauren
Me too. I can’t wait to see it!
march and april both totally sucked I agree. OH a hot pepper plant, fun fun. Do you garden?
I was considering increasing my goodreads thing too, but it be just nice to go over my goal and see by how much I guess? XD
I have a few plants that are easy to care for and don’t take much time. Wish I could get a whole garden going.
I read your post this week about Mars One. I think I’ll try it. Some others look good too. Your Goodreads Challenge is going well. I set mie low and now that I’ve added 2 new review features I’m going to have to raise it too.
Hope you try it. Maberry always does a good job with his books.
I can’t wait to see the new Kingsman film, I loved the first one and the trailer looks epic for the next one! Have a good week
I hope you grow some fiery hot jalapeños. I need some of your warm sunny weather. Here’s hoping that May is full of sunshine, good books and nice days. I finally got all my hanging baskets and outside planters planted this past weekend. Usually I have it done early part of April. So behind because of all the bad weather.
YASSSSSS I can’t wait to see Kingsman 2. I saw a bit of Collin Firth and wondered exactly how they resurrected his character. Hmmm.
How was Skitter? Too freaking scared to read that book.
I am so ready for warmer temps and sunshine. I have Skitter coming up soon and I need to listen to some more books in the White Trash Zombie series. Your subscription box looks really neat. I would really enjoy that but with all the food allergies in my house there would be lots of sad faces so I must resist. Have a great May!
57% of your Goodreads goal! that’s great! I loved your Body Image in Books post and Good luck with the Clean Sweep ARC Challenge. I’m ready too!
I agree, April was a awful month and a bit cruel too. I’m glad it’s over and the threat of snow and ice no longer looms over my head! Great job on your GR challenge. I always end up bumping my # down in December!
April was kind of an awful month, now that you mention it. May means summer! Hot as blazes, but summer! Fantastic progress on your Goodreads challenge! I am at 37%. I have kept 52 books for the last couple years, 1 a week. I am secretly going to plant the potatoes that The Man thinks he threw out in the bigger wagon he bought me. hehe
Aw damn on April being a bitch. Hopefully May has started out better? We were warmer here and then it was like NO IT WILL BE WINTER AGAIN!!!! Ah! The subscription box looks fun. I think another blogger I follow gets that one.
