Shush…lest she awaken…
My name is Amelia Gray, a cemetery restorer who lives with the dead. An anonymous donor has hired me to restore Woodbine Cemetery, a place where the rich and powerful bury their secrets. Forty years ago, a child disappeared without a trace and now her ghost has awakened, demanding that I find out the truth about her death. Only I know that she was murdered. Only I can bring her killer to justice. But the clues that I follow—a haunting melody and an unnamed baby's grave—lead me to a series of disturbing suspects.
For generations, The Devlins have been members of Charleston's elite. John Devlin once turned his back on the traditions and expectations that came with his birthright, but now he has seemingly accepted his rightful place. His family's secrets make him a questionable ally. When my investigation brings me to the gates of his family's palatial home, I have to wonder if he is about to become my mortal enemy.
Damn. I hate to see this series come to an end. At least we got an ending though. There were a few years there after the 3rd book that gave me serious doubts that we would. Not only did we get an ending with The Awakening, it what a satisfying one at that.
I’ve always appreciated how practical and steady Amelia is. She often finds herself in creepy and at times horrific situations, but she uses her head instead of turning into a TSTL character.
The mystery in this book and how it brought everything from the beginning of the series together is done really well. There were a lot of questions surrounding Amelia and her … gift? … curse? … ability … that all come to a head, and thankfully they’re answered. The suspense, twists, and danger mixed with the eerie atmosphere kept me completely captivated and on the edge of my seat. There’s a lot of potential for stories like this to feel cheesy, but that is so not the case here.
The Awakening really is a worthy series finale, despite wishing there were a little more to the ending. I highly recommend this series, but it definitely needs to be read in order.
The 1st book is currently $1.99!
I agree a really good conclusion! really enjoyed the whole series!
I can not wait to read this one
What genre is this? A mystery? Paranormal? I’ve heard a series that sounds like this one (it has the word “graveyard” on its title as well if I’m not mistaken) but forgot the title. This sound really good.
Awesome review, as always, my friend. Have a great week. 😀
It’s modern gothic/paranormal/mystery/romance. It’s a great series. I’m willing to bet you’d like it.
That is a huge relief when a final book answers all questions and the heroine sticks at it through everything without being a dumb one when it’s dangerous.
YAY for a great ending for the series!
Glad it was a satisfying ending to the series. I feel like that is rare. Greta review!!
I just got this one to review on audio and I am really excited but also sad because it’s the end. I am never caught up to end a series when it actually ends…..lol. It was one of those series that once I started I couldn’t help but listen to them all! 🙂
I have got to start this series. ASAP. I’m getting further and further behind. I didn’t know that this book was the finale. At least I know I won’t get any further behind. LOL. I already own the first book on audio.
YES…I wish it was longer too. I am hoping we revisit this series one day.
I just read Kim’s review for this one and she thought it was a satisfying ending too. I’m glad it was a good ending and that you got an ending. I would have been so upset had I followed the series and there was no ending!
I haven’t yet read this series, but it sounds so good. I am glad the series ended well! It always seems to be a mixed bag when a series ends.
I was so glad that so much was answered as well but I really did want just a bit more at the end but that was okay, hopefully the novellas will give us some of that.
I’ve been seeing this book on a lot of blogs and every one has really liked it. Thanks for letting us know about this one and the series.
I love this series hard as well. I just got the book and I’m going to start it tonight. You hit the nail on the head about what an intelligent character Amelia is. I think I enjoy it because of that.
I have almost all of the books in this series on my kindle ready to go. I read and loved the prequel novella but haven’t started any of the books yet. I really need to get to it soon since it sounds great. Glad you enjoyed this one.
oh.. creepy! I never knew you can make a cemetery creepier than it already is XD good series is the one that knows it will end
I really like the sound of this book! Great review!
Good to know so many people were satisfied with the ending to this series! It makes me excited to dive in.
Great review. 🙂
Ali has mentioned the possibility of novellas for these characters I’d rather have another book or so. I didn’t feel like all of the questions got answered? or maybe there were a few lose ends…like the monster thingy that followed her from the mountains of her home town, and what about the key?
I love series finales that live up to the hype of a series Christy and this sounds wonderfully written and really satisfying. I’m always looking for awesome urban fantasy and paranormal reads to take a break from review copies, so going to pick up book one on sale and dive in. Brilliant review Christy and so glad you enjoyed it <3
I keep meaning to get into this series and so today I’m taking that plunge…heading to Amazon see you on the other side lol
Ahhh. I totally failed at this series. I only read the first book and now, I think it’s a commitment to finish the series. I’m glad everything worked out for you. 😀
There are some series I’m concerned about, so I definitely understand that feeling! Glad you got a satisfying ending though 🙂 And Amelia sounds like a character I’d like!
I’m so happy you got a conclusion to this series after all and that it was a good one! I haven’t read these yet, but I’ve heard great things about them and they’re on my TBR! Amelia sounds like an amazing character. So glad you liked this series! 🙂
