Footsteps in the attic. Toys that play by themselves. A dark presence in an upstairs room.
Paranormal investigator Ellie Jordan faces a difficult new case. Her new clients are a family haunted by multiple ghosts and a poltergeist that wrecks their home at night. Their seven-year-old son’s invisible friends may not be imaginary at all, but the restless spirits of dead children.
To clear her clients’ house of the dangerous entities, Ellie must unravel the mysterious deaths of another family who lived in the old mansion more than a hundred and sixty years ago—and she must do it before the ghosts can carry out their malevolent designs on her clients and their children.
I’m thoroughly enjoying this series! I was impressed with the first book, and Cold Shadows has me completely hooked. This is a quick read without feeling rushed, and it certainly isn’t slacking in quality.
Ghosts can be total dicks. That’s what I’ve learned from this book. Especially when it involves children. I love that it doesn’t feel … cartoony. Does that make sense? It feels realistic, and that actually plays a huge factor in the creepiness.
I really enjoyed the mystery surrounding the ghosts that are haunting the home and the research involved. Investigating the story behind the haunting is instrumental in dealing with the entities, and Bryan does a great job bringing it all together.

Ghost removal specialist Ellie Jordan must face a dangerous, shape-shifting entity that she and Calvin have encountered once before, with tragic results. The spirit has the power to reach into the minds of living and feed on their fears, taking the shape of their worst nightmares, and it has awoken in search of new victims.
Now Ellie must try to succeed where she and her mentor failed before, and try to defeat the twisted and powerful old ghost before it can claim another soul for its collection.
I could totally see this series as a television show! We’re taken on another creeptastic journey in The Crawling Darkness, and I enjoyed every moment. There are plenty of thrills and chills to be had.
A super dark and nasty entity is harassing a family … or two, and Ellie is called in to investigate. This thing manifests into your biggest fear and is looking for more than just a little scare. It’s an interesting mystery that connects the past and present in a disturbing way.
Ellie continues to be a wonderful protagonist. I love how she’s steady and analytical, while Stacey is a cheerful sidekick. Their contrasting personalities can be pretty entertaining at times, but they fit perfectly together. It was nice to get more insight to both of their pasts and what it might mean for the future.
Don’t miss out, the 1st book is free!
Ohh free you say?
I grabbed book one. These sound good and I love, ghostly investigations 🙂
I have had book one in my kindle for a while now but not tried it. This does sound like a good series so I really need to try it.
Ghosts can be total dicks? Yeah, that, plus ‘his imaginary friends might not be imaginary’ got to me, Christy! I think I need this series in my life!!
So glad you are still reading and loving these, they really are a lot of fun and can be creepy at times too, which is an added bonus.
Are these ya? I’m really intrigued by the mystery and creepiness factor (as long as it isn’t too creepy lol).
The characters are adults. It’s one of those series that can easily transcend age groups, though.
You had me at free! LOL. Thanks for the reviews, I’m always happy to add fabulous (and free) books to my TBR list!
After reading your review I decided to get the first book, since it was free. It is now on my growing TBR list.
Thank you:)
I hear good things about this author! I really need to try their books soon. I’m glad these are still enjoyable reads – and yay for non-cartoony ghosts!
Ooh nice. I love a good ghost story.
So I wouldn’t necessarily look twice at these because of the covers. I know, I know, but… However, “Ghosts can be total dicks.” Well, that caught my attention. 😉 I do have to admit that the creepy factor has me slightly worried but these are ghosts not demons so I think I can hang. I just one-clicked book #1!
I really need to try this series, I heard great things about it!
This sounds like such a fun series! I picked up book 1 as well. Sounds perfect for October!
I am glad you are digging in and loving this series. It is so fun and addictive and perfect for this time of year. I bet your son would like these books.
I have the first book and need to get to it. This sounds good and I swear you had me laughing at… “Ghosts can be total dicks.” Good to know! LOL
Sounds like a pretty interesting series. I grabbed book one (thanks for pointing out that it was free. I already picked it up, but forgot about it).
Totally had not heard of this series! I’m grabbing the first book. Thanks for the double feature!
I have the first book in this series, I just haven’t read it yet. Glad you’re enjoying it! I get what you’re saying about how it doesn’t feel cartoony. And I like the sound of a steady, analytical character. Plus contrast between character personalities is usually great!
