I'm a cemetery restorer by trade, but my calling has evolved from that of ghost seer to death walker to detective of lost souls. I solve the riddles of the dead so the dead will leave me alone.

I've come to Seven Gates Cemetery nursing a broken heart, but peace is hard to come by…for the ghosts here and for me. When the body of a young woman is discovered in a caged grave, I know that I've been summoned for a reason. Only I can unmask her killer. I want to trust the detective assigned to the case for he is a ghost seer like me. But how can I put my faith in anyone when supernatural forces are manipulating my every thought? When reality is ever-changing? And when the one person I thought I could trust above all others has turned into a diabolical stranger?

So much creepy ghostly goodness! I’m in love with this series, and The Sinner solidified my feelings. It’s impossible not to get completely sucked into this captivating atmospheric story.

Can’t a person work in a cemetery in peace? Sheesh! Amelia was hired to restore the old Seven Gates Cemetery and has been at it all summer without incident. That is until she discovers a fresh corpse where it doesn’t belong. The circumstances surrounding the situation are very peculiar, and Amelia finds herself embroiled in a murder investigation.

If only it were that simple. Amelia is in much deeper than she realizes.

Dark secrets, human sacrifices and a sinister entity … *sings* these are a few of my favorite things. Ahem, sorry, I had to burst out in song there. Anyway, the suspense is great and there’s plenty of it. Deciding who to trust is a major issue. I love that it’s difficult to discern who’s evil or not and kept me guessing. And the paranormal aspect is done so freaking well! It’s definitely intense and creepy at times.

Amelia is such a great protagonist. She stays steady and grounded when faced with some pretty horrific situations, so it’s easy to feel that spike in heart rate and intensity when Amelia does experience true fear. There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding her abilities, and the danger keeps increasing.

Reading this series in order is a must! Even though there’s a new plot in every book, what happens in each one is tied to the overall story arc and helps it progress.

Seriously, The Sinner is a superb installment to the series! I’m beyond eager to see what’s next.

  1. I’m so tempted to make an inside joke here about YA & UF but I’m learning slowly. I tell ya, it’s sooooo hard to keep my snark in check, though….

Awesome review, Christy!!! This is one of the top FIVE series I always wanted to start (don’t worry, I OWN the first 2 books) but never had time and honestly, always forgot I had it 🙁 I didn’t know you were reading this too! Commence beat down in 5… 4… 3… 2…

  2. I remember wanting to read this series, but I’m such a wuss when it comes to this type of creepy. Cemeteries/graveyards are creepy enough as it is. I can’t afford to sleep with the light own (literally and figuratively). I may check out the first book and see how I feel about it. It’s coming up on Halloween, and I don’t know about the rest of the country, but here in AL and GA there are clowns creeping around scaring folks and I’m on edge already. Idiot humans!

  3. You had me at creepy goodness Christy. I’m the same and love a good creepy thriller, and this sounds absolutely brilliant. I love te blurred lines between who is good, who is evil and not knowing who on earth you can trust. It’s books like those that keep me on my toes. I love the gothic covers as well. Brilliant review Christy, just checking out The Restorer now to grab a copy <3
