Damn, are we really in September already?! It makes me sad that it’s getting dark earlier and earlier. 🙁
Blogging & reading are still on the slower side, but I managed to read 7 books in August. They were all really good, but Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews was my favorite read of the month.
Apparently there were some issues with comments going to spam that seems to be straightened out now. A few people mentioned comments on their blogs going to spam, and then someone else let me know they left a comment on mine that disappeared. When I checked my spam folder there were quite a few from various people spanning a few weeks. I don’t know what was going on with the commenting system, but there hasn’t been anymore since I approved those. So you might want to double check your spam for legit comments.
Anyway, the following is from the last 2 weeks.
On the Blog
- A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet (review)
- The Sight by Chloe Neill (review)
Books Read
- The Sinner by Amanda Stevens
- Pirate’s Alley by Suzanne Johnson
- 53 Letter’s for My Lover by Leylah Attar
- The Black Wolf by J.A. Redmerski

It’s been awhile since I bought any new books, and now I bought six within the last two weeks.
I read 53 Letters for My Lover & loved it. And OMG, Behind the Hands that Kill! I finally read The Black Wolf & discovered there’s more in the series. I’m sooooooooo happy!
Rae of Sunshine should still be free & When Stars Collide $0.99.
Watching
Okay. So who has read Maximum Ride by James Patterson? I read it many years ago with my son. I heard over the years they were making a movie, and I stumbled across it yesterday on Amazon. It looks like it was just released August 30th only on Amazon and Youtube.
Um … it’s … it’s definitely not blockbuster material. But if you’ve read the book, then you might want to check it out. And people who enjoy those sort of cheesy movies might like it.
Yeah I’m not liking this getting darker earlier stuff. My reading has been a bit slow too, but then I read a ton this week. 7 books is pretty good.
Maximum Ride huh? That one’s new to me, but it reminds me of XMen a bit with he kids and the powers. Might not be bad. I didn’t know James Patterson wrote stuff like that, I thought he was mainly standard thrillers and stuff. Hmm.
Have a good long weekend. 🙂
Looks like spam is still eating comments. Thanks for the heads up. You might like the Maximum Ride books, Greg. I’d definitely read the first book before watching the movie though.
You too!
I actually like it when it gets dark earlier because I love the night. And it just feels cozier? I don’t know if the spam issue is quite over. It seemed like it was, but then I got another comment or two in my spam folder and someone else told me she started having all her comments go to spam… so who knows. They really do need to get that sorted out. Anyway, have a great week!
I’m all about the sun. I’m out in it as often as possible. I even take my work outside. 😀 I’ll still keep an eye on the spam folder. So weird.
Is Breath of Fire the sequel to…shoot I can’t remember the name of the book but I think you reviewed it maybe back in July early August? There was one moment when I thought about reading James Patterson’s Maximum series but then I came to my senses and moved on lol.
Yeah, it’s the sequel to A Promise of Fire. I read the Maximum Ride books with my son when he was 11 or 12. I think we stopped after the 2nd book because they weren’t that great. A lot of people seem to love the series, though. *shrugs*
I enjoy September for the cooler nights, but not for the earlier darkness… I guess we just can’t have everything, Christy.
It seems like you and I read the same reviews last week, adding Rae of Sunshine and When the Stars Collied to our kindles 🙂
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.
I often have problems with comments going to spam and tend to check it every couple of days just in case a real comment’s gone there.
We’re heading out of winter, into spring and summer so the long days will be great, but not the heat…. Have a great week!
Darker mornings for me means longer days and nearing Christmas already! It’s horrible. I miss the sunny days already. And the holidays too. I’m already counting the days till the next term. Haha. Oh I see Since You’ve Been Gine, love that one. It was my first of her books and they are so good. Happy Sunday!
Yeah, you’re right. The acting is suspect, but I’m sure fans of the books will be clamouring to watch the series. Lol. I noticed the days getting shorter, too. Which means, Jon Snow may be right: winter is coming. *flails*
I hate that it gets darker sooner too because I am not a fan of night driving. It also makes me think I should go to sleep sooner cause it’s dark…lol. I can’t wait to get my audio review copy of The Sinner! Some of those books you had pics of there look good. 🙂
Happy reading,
Stormi
I had some issues with comments this week as well! Not sure what was up but thanks for the tip! I always forget to check spam!
I started the JA Redmerski series a couple of years ago. Its DARK! But, I never continued. Perhaps I need to pick it back up!
I get the occasional comment going to spam but thankfully it doesn’t happen often. I like it when it’s dark out. I’m a night person so I like it when the darkness comes a little earlier.
7 books is still great if they were all great reads!
The River at Night looks so creepy so I’m totally checking it out. I hope you enjoy RoS and WSC!!
I think the comments to spam was because of the WP update? I didn’t even realize it until someone mentioned it to me. It’s weird!
I love Kate Daniels so I’m excited to read it! I will probably read it soon since i am in such a slump.
You still have read a lot of books though your reading (as you said) is slower this time. You’re an incredible woman, Christy. And BTW. you should read Since You’ve Been Gone next.
Ugh so not happy about it getting darker out now. Still I am happy about fall. I totally need to check my spam folder now!! Lots of good books!! Hope you enjoy them all and have a great week!
My girls might like the movie, they both read the series so I’ll tell them about it. I think I only ever read the first three or something like that.
As much as I don’t want summer to be over, I do like the cooler weather we are having, it is a welcome change.
My daughter was obsessed with Maximum Ride. That’s too bad that the movie was on the cheesy side but I’ll have to tell her that it’s on Amazon. We’re starting to get a little cooler here in the evenings which is a good sign that we may have a decrease from broiling during the day! Have a great week!
Just on a whim I checked my spam comments yesterday and I had one from a faithful visitor that went to spam. I felt horrible that I hadn’t heard from this lady in weeks, and it was in the spam! I guess from now on I’ll have to check it every week just to be sure. I am also sad that it is getting dark earlier. I go to work in the dark and I come home in the dark. I hate it. Seven books is great! Happy reading!
So sad that it’s getting darker, it’s dark at 10 pm now :/
That’s the only part of fall I do not like, the shortening days. I love the fall otherwise. It sounds like you had a good August in books. You can’t go wrong with Ilona Andrews. Breath of Fire sounds really good. So does The River At Night. I haven’t read Maximum Ride, but now you’ve got me curious about the movie. Sometimes I don’t mind cheesy. 🙂
I hope you have a great week, Christy!
Hi!!! I’m unplugged this weekend, sort of, but just had to stop by!! *waves* You went bingeing on the freebies like the old days… where did you hear about “rae of sunshine”? curious… Have a great weekend!!!
*waves* I saw it on Genesis’ blog https://lattenightsreviews.com/
Have a great Labor Day!
I know, where did all the time go? It is getting dark earlier and fall seems to be in the air. 7 books is a good amount of reading.
Have a good week ahead:)
I’m ready for Fall, but I also don’t like when it gets dark earlier. Makes me feel more tired. I’ve been reading slower as well. I noticed a drop-off once I reached my Goodreads goal. I don’t even think I read 7 books last month. Most of my reviews were from books I read in June and July. You’re not alone.
I like cheesy movies, I might have to check it out.
I’m ready for fall but not for it getting dark earlier. Too bad they go together. ;(
Your purchases are unfamiliar to me but it seems like you really enjoyed them so yay!
Enjoy the rest of the long weekend!
Ahhhh the dark. I loves it! I have the Andrews one sitting on the bed. I’ve been trying to be good and not read it early. lol Glad it was awesome!
I got the Micalea Smeltzer books too. I’ve read good things about them and they were real cheap so I was completely sold on those.
I live in Southern California so we’re still rocking the summer weather and the sun still goes down pretty late but that’ll be changing soon. Hopefully.
I hope you have a great reading week this week!
I live in California too. It’s still in the 90’s (I love the heat), but it getting darker at 7:30 compared to 9 bums me out. The more sunshine there is, the happier I am. 😀
I am ready for fall…but not if that makes any sense. You picked up some great books this week. I was just denied for Breath of Fire and it has made my heart sad to tell the truth. Enjoy!
I’m having pre-time change depression/sleepiness myself, Christy. :/ You intrigued me with the Redmerski books so I went to check them out. I have the first one! 🙂 I’ll have to make time for it.
Just checking in on you and the darkness 🙂
Ugh, the whole spamming comments thing is annoying. Mine has done that a few time. There is a certain person who always gets put in the spam folder. No idea why.
I have no idea how I missed this post. Yes, I’ve had several of my comments going to spam on many different website. I’ve caught a few of on my websites too. I don’t know what is going on. I’m really excited for Magic Binds. I’m waiting on the audio. I hope you’re having a great week.
It is stupid dark really early, It is like winter! I just wish it would make its mind up is it summer or autumn or what? I never know what to wear, it is such a pain!
