Sunday Post #185 (8/21/16) – I’m Here, But I’m Not

sunday post blue greenThe Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

You know you live in California when you go outside and everything is covered in ash because half the state is on fire. Seriously, we have so many fires here every year. The area I live in always gets covered in smoke and ash. It’s hell on the lungs and eyes, but it’s nothing compared to what the people who have to deal with the actual fires go through. πŸ™

Reading and blogging continues to slow down for me. The stuff listed below is from the last two weeks, and it might get even more sparse in the near future. Time is a bitch, man.

On the Blog

  • The Hating Game by Sally Thorne (review) – Hilarious & sweet, a new favorite!

Books Read

  • The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis – Really good.
  • Cold Shadows by JL Bryan – Some creepy goodness.

Books Acquired

For Review:

A new book from Maberry!

mars one

I did it. A couple weeks ago I started watching GoT and there’s no going back. So freaking good and addicting! I’m glad I waited, though. I now have six seasons to watch whenever I want.

I Am Not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells is a movie! I read the book several years ago & loved it. It’ll be released in limited theaters and video on demand August 26. I’m still excited to watch it and hope they do the book justice (probably won’t). Plus, Christopher Lloyd is in it!

Have a great week!

Good! Then I hope you read it soon! πŸ˜€ GoT is really good so far. Still trying to keep track of names. lol.

  1. That would suck with all the ash and smoke. I’m always amazed how bad CA gets the fires…

Yay for Game of thrones. Binging is the best- can’t wait to hear your thoughts. You’ll have to tell us what you think as you make your way through the seasons. And I love that cover of The Bourbon Thief.

Yeah, just Google map of CA fires and they’re are like 8 or 9 active ones. Last I checked anyway.

I want to spread the episodes out and make them last, but … It’s hard.

    • Christy

We aren’t in danger where I am, but the nearest fire has caused some people I know to evacuate. It sucks.

  2. Yikes, that’s awful about the fires :-/ Obviously it’s the worst for everyone dealing with the actual fires, but I imagine it would also be miserable with all the ash for everyone else.

That cover for Mars One looks interesting! And how cool they made a movie of a book you read! I mean, for me I get upset when books I read are made into movies since I don’t watch movie adaptations lol, but I’m happy for you πŸ˜› Have a great week!

  3. Sorry to hear about the fires:(. Back in 1975 we had a severe drought and there were some terrible fires – one destroyed a kennel full of dogs before they managed to get them out:(. I can still recall the bitter smell and taste all these years later – and I’m aware that is a mere whiff of what you have to deal with year after year… Glad to hear you are enjoying GoT – I’ve tried to get into the TV series and the books, but it simply doesn’t work for me, sadly. Take care and have a good week.

  4. Scary with the fires. Stay safe lady. One day I will start GoT. I feel like I need to pay attention to it and I am not good with that lately. I actually haven’t really watched much TV this summer which kind of bums me out. Anyways have a great week!!

  5. Oh, girl. It’s not even September and October yet πŸ™ I’m sorry! Do you see flames anywhere you drive? I hate that smell and the air, too. I don’t miss that πŸ™ Freakin’ mother nature *shakes fist*

I know you’re busy right now but I feel like I’m summer slumpin’. I’m just kind of bored or something. I need a shake or something. I’m just not feeling it right now.

Hey, did you ever read GoT?? Just curious. It won’t ruin the show but the books are very epic πŸ™‚ I won’t watch the show b/c I don’t want to ruin the book experience and the characters in my head πŸ™‚

Relax and little and have a good week!!

A big reason I didn’t start watching GoT sooner is b/c I wanted to read the books first. I never got around to it even though I have the first book. I think I may still read them though, because I feel like I’d grasp the different characters and their connections better. So many of these bearded dudes look the same. lol.

  6. Yeah, ash and dust from fires are tough to deal with, but nothing compared to what those who are really close to the fires have to deal with, I’m sure! I hope the fires will stop, Christy.
Slow is good, no? As long as you don’t disappear on us, it’s all good πŸ˜‰
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  7. Ughh…I can’t imagine what people closer to those fires are going through…and I couldn’t imagine living with all that ash all the time πŸ™ Thanks for the heads up on that movie…I haven’t read the book but that trailer looks amazing.

  8. The fires this year have been terrible. There was even one near my house, but it was nothing like the big ones raging near the Cajon Pass. Stay safe!

Welcome to the club! Isn’t GOT the bestest, craziest, jaw-dropping show ever?!? I’ve gotten so many people hooked on it, that they’re driving me crazy for the next season. As if I control that. Ha! If you haven’t read the books, they’re pretty long to tied you over until season 7. Have a great week!

  9. I think we have the second biggest fire raging here right now (well for awhile now) so I hear you on the smokey air and crap, it is awful but makes for some gorgeous setting suns and moons. πŸ˜‰ Those poor animals, trees, and firefighters though. πŸ™

Man I’ve been debating GoT. Crap, I better hold off though, I still have a few other things to catch up on first. πŸ˜‰

  10. I hate wilfdire season. I used to live up in the Mojave desert and you’d see them all the time. We’ve since moved closer to the ocean and I haven’t seen anything major in our area. They always used to scare me and I hated reading the reports on it as the fires wrecked havoc on homes and wildlife. πŸ™ Hopefully it calms down soon and we get some much needed rain.

  11. Oh fires are scary, stay safe. I haven’t tried GoT cause I don’t do well with them kill off people I like…lol. Maybe one day. πŸ™‚ I have always wanted to read that book I’m not a Serial Killer so that is cool it’s going to be a movie…now I really need to read it. πŸ™‚

Have a great week and happy reading!

The smoke and ash must be hard on you. I hope you get rain soon and stay safe. The cover of Mars One looks interesting. I don’t get GOT but I read the first two books of the series.

  13. The fires are just horrible. Stay safe, Christy! It can be really hard to keep up with everything. There just never seems to be enough time. I have thought about watching GOT. I watched the first episode but never went any further. Maybe soon. Have a great week!

  14. It is raining and raining where I am. If only we could send some of it out that aways! I feel you about time. I haven’t read in two weeks, and I don’t foresee that changing in the next two weeks, either.

  15. Oh I’m sorry about the smoke and ash. I can’t imagine how rough that must be on your eyes and lungs. I’ve been struggling for reading and blogging time as well. Part of it is I’m just distracted by other stuff. Hope you get your blogging mojo back! The movie looks awesome! It is scary when a book I love gets turned into a movie. The limited release could be a good thing though because there’s not as much pressure to make a block buster. Have a great week!

  16. We haven’t gotten much smoke and ash despite a nearby fire, which really surprises me. I think the wind saved us. I feel so terrible for all those impacted the many fires in the state. We’ve been collecting donations in the office to help those in need. I hope the air clears for you soon–and I especially hope the fires are all under control and put out even sooner.

    Have a good week, Christy!

They’re all so good, even the fuckers like Joffery. But I love Tyrion and Arya. And the super blond chick across the sea.
