The queen has returned.
Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…
She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.
She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.
The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.
Daaaamn!
I love Queen of Shadows hard! Seriously, this series continues to get better with each book.
It’s kind of crazy to look back and think about how far everything has come since the first book. Throne of Glass almost seems like child’s play compared to now. What a journey it has been so far! Danger, deceit, love, forgiveness … Queen of Shadows has it all.
What I love so much about this series, this book in particular, is how much the characters evolve. Boring and two-dimensional? Hell no! They are wonderfully fleshed out and complex. People change and grow, and sometimes what we see at first isn’t the whole picture of who they are. Friends can become foes and foes can become friends, and sometimes it isn’t so black-and-white.
Girl power! I love how strong the women are, all in their own way. I couldn’t be more proud of Aelin. She was badass in the first book, but is on a whole other level now. Fire-Breathing Bitch-Queen indeed. And there’s Lysandra! I can’t even tell you how happy I am about her. I have to say though, Manon and the rest of the witches have been my favorites since they first appeared. Deadly is too soft of a word to describe them. ♥ There’s also still two characters that we met in The Assassin’s Blades that I’m hoping will finally come into play in the next book.
So many emotions! This book took me through them all. By the end, though, my heart was full, but also nervous for what is still to come.
I’m extremely happy with Queen of Shadows and the direction the series is going in. Whatever happens next, bring it on! I’m ready!
Damn it..I bought this on release day I am seriously going to be kicking myself aren’t I? Fantastic review. I need to treat it like an arc and add it to my calendar!
That sounds great and I love the cover.
Ok, it sounds so good, I need to read the first book in series though to get to the good stuff.
I really need to try this author soon!
I need to get to the third book still. Honestly the size of it is holding me back – I just need to do it and get to this one!!! Great review!
Sigh. I sometimes wish I persevered with this series, but then I’d remember how annoyed I was with Caelena in the first book and the feeling goes away. Lol. I’m glad you’re still loving this series after all this time!
I think I might try this series on audio for the simple fact that me and A Court of Thorns and Roses didn’t mesh well together.
I have book one, but do you think I’ve read it yet? Haha! I can see I’ve been missing out.
YES! I couldn’t of said it better. I freaking love this series. I need to get my review up (I’m so behind) but this very well might have been my favorite book yet.
Ahh Christy i can’t believe you only just made time for this one! I’m so happy you loved it though. But yes i do agree–Throne of Glass does almost seem like childs play now.
I tried this series but *coughs*
Sadly, I still need to read book one. But I own it so that’s good, right?!?!?! The next book, #5, looks amazing… awesome review 🙂
I’ve seen this author around but have never really been tempted to try her out. I’m thinking after your review that I should change that. Love the excitement you’re showing for this one.
how I have missed this author or this series???!!! I love seeing great characters evolve and this book sounds so fun and your excitment of it is contagious hehe
I really loved the series, but Queen of Shadows was kick-ass indeed. I didn’t realize that there were new characters in The Assassin’s Blade. Maybe I’ll bump it up my TBR list so I can read it before the next book just in case. I’m so stoked you also love the witches. They’re my new favorite characters as well.
I haven’t read this series, but I’m glad you’re loving it! It’s the best when the characters just continue to get more and more fleshed out and developed as the series goes on, especially when things between them are not black-and-white and make you feel kind of conflicted, because that’s when they seem real. And of course yay emotions! Enjoy the rest of the series 🙂
I really need to try this series! I just hear great things. I love that the characters grow and evolve too; three-dimensional characters are my favorite.
AH YAY!!!!! I’ve been holding off on this one, waiting for the next one to come out so I can read them back to back and glory in all that is Aelin:) I agree, all the characters have grown and evolved so much since the first book (which I actually didn’t care for, I only became addicted after reading the prequel novellas), and I can’t wait to see where they go in the next two books:)
I really need to catch up on this seires, it was my goal for this summer, but that was before. I really really do want to read this. Glad it was such a winner for you.
I’ve only read the first one. DARN! I need to get on it especially since this one sounds SO good! Badass women FTW!
I heard so many good things about this series and it always makes me feel like I read a different book as everyone else as I DNF’d the first book. I couldn’t get through it. It does sound like a series that gets better with each book. The character sound so fleshed out, which is something I always like in books. Great review!
Dammit! Okay. I’m going to have to start these.
Yup, still need to read this one. I am so excited!!! I am ready for shit to go down! Girl power!
Sarah J Maas is one of the funniest authors I’ve ever met! I’ve only read A Court of Thorns and Roses though. Would love to get to this series. So glad you enjoyed this one, Christy!
