Signed, sealed, delivered...

While spacing out in Chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk, and added a message to her. Intrigue!

Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters -- sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she's kind of falling for this letter writer. Only who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery, and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can't always be spelled out...

So stinkin’ cute! I’ve adored all of Kasie West’s books and know that I’m going to have a fun time with them. They are some of the few YA contemporaries I can count on. While P.S. I Like You isn’t my favorite of West’s, it still totally delivered. It’s one of those quick, one-sitting reads that left me feeling light and happy.

Chemistry class bores the hell out of Lily, so she vandalizes a desk in protest. Okay, not really. She does write song lyrics from one of her favorite bands on the desk though, and that simple act snowballed into Lily gaining a secret pen pal.

I loved reading the little notes they wrote to each other, and how they bonded through them without knowing who the other person was. It’s fairly obvious to the reader who the other person is, but that doesn’t even matter. Watching it all unfold is what makes it so dang fun.

I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, and we wrote notes to each other all the time. We passed them before school, between class, and after school. I have numerous boxes packed away somewhere full of them. So not only did this book make me feel nostalgic, it reminded me that I need to find those boxes and burn them. Seriously, there’s probably some pretty bad stuff in them. And embarrassing. Possibly incriminating.

*ahem* Anyway …

As usual, West introduces us to some loveable characters. Lily has a whole indie artist vibe about her that I love. Her humor and awkwardness is adorable, and the things she’d say sometimes had me smiling and shaking my head. I also love that she has no qualms when it comes to dealing with assholes.

Lily has quite the entertaining family. They’re a bit chaotic and drive her crazy sometimes, but some of the sweetest and funniest moments came from her interactions with them.

There isn’t really any crazy drama, but Lily does have a rivalry with someone that I thoroughly enjoyed. Actually, she has a couple of rivalries, but one is definitely more fun than the other. And it was nice seeing Lily grow and learn from those situations.

Overall, I heart P.S. I Like You! It’s an all-around fun, quick read that’s perfect for summer.

That’s exactly what I’m in the mood for Christy! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve read by Kasie West, and even if this one doesn’t end up as a favorite of hers, I know I’ll have fun reading it:)

  2. Oh I love the sound of this one! I remember writing notes and there was this specific way to fold them so they stayed together which I couldn’t recreate now to save my life. This sounds like such a fun read! I’m glad that while her life isn’t perfect it doesn’t sound overly angsty either. Plus I’ve been wanting to try Kasie West’s books for awhile now.
