Sunday Post #177 (5/29/16) – Just Call Me Wednesday

Posted May 28, 2016 | 46 Comments

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

The week started off well, but by the end … not so much. So I’m in a weird mood right now.

be afraid

The weather has been gorgeous, though. Nice and warm!

I’m back on track with my Goodreads challenge. I was like 4 books behind, but the audiobook helped since I listen to them on a higher speed.

I only read one book for the #CleanSweepARC Challenge, though. I’ve set quite a few ARCs aside this month because I’m just not feeling them, so we’ll see how this last week goes.

Now I’m going to watch Deadpool.

And Monday is Memorial Day. All gave some, and some gave all …

On the Blog

Books Read

  • Too Late by Colleen Hoover – Well, well, well … I thoroughly enjoyed this darker side of CoHo.
  • The Hatching by Ezekiel Boone – Meh.
  • Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs – Really enjoying this series.
  • F*ck Love by Tarryn Fisher – #WhatINeeded

Books Acquired

I love Sherman Alexie, especially The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, so you bet I grabbed this when it went on sale.

My favorite band and my favorite song (well, tied for favorite). It sounds best live.

Have a great week!

I just suck when you want to read them when you get them, but lose interest once it’s time to.

  1. Deadpool! I haven’t seen that yet… and I still want to try Patricia Brigs at SOME point… sigh. Hope you have a nice long weekend. 🙂

    Rock festivals are the best.

Deadpool was pretty good. And you so need to read the Mercedes Thomson series. I just read the 2nd book and really liked it.

      • Nathan

I read the graphic novel of the Mercedes Thomson series set before the series does titled “Homecoming”. It was good and I mean to someday start the series once I find the first book in the series. I am still getting through my TBR pile.

  2. Aww, sorry your week didn’t end well :-/ Feel better, whatever it is that’s wrong. But yay about the warm weather and the GR challenge! I put my challenge low enough that I knew I’d make it easily, haha. I knew I’d just stress myself if I set it too high. By the way, graphic novels are also great if you fall behind and need some quick reads 😉

I actually put it lower than what I’ve been reading the past couple years. It’s just been busy. I need to squeeze in some novellas. 😀

  3. Man, I feel you about the ARCs. I’ve decided to just pick up whatever in the mood for. I can’t be bothered to force myself to read a book. I’m being careful with my requests too, so that should help.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Deadpool. I wasn’t a big fan. And gaaah! I gotta read a Tarryn Fisher one of these days!!
Happy reading and have a great week!

  4. Ha! Sometimes, having ARCs is more like a curse than a blessing, Christy. I am reading a book I have bought, right now… one I’ve had on my kindle for a long time, and I’m loving it…
I need to read Fuck Love, too! And the darker CoHo of course… is that the one she has on whattpad?
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading xoxo

  5. Great work on catching up on your Goodreads challenge!

I don’t actually request a lot of ARCs – usually I only request stuff I get from publishers so they’re about to be published….

  6. Sometimes when I sign up for an ARC the book sounds so good; but then when I actually get around to it, I wonder “Why was I so excited about this” and it just doesn’t sound good to me any more. Sigh. Oh well!
    Have a great week!

  7. I was ahead on my Goodreads challenge but I am on target right now. I will probably fall behind soon. When I get into my audiobook groove I can usually get ahead quickly. Right now I am listening to something that isn’t doing much for me so it is slow going. I haven’t really tried speeding audiobooks up yet. I do hate it when I just don’t want to read the books that I know I should be reading. Have a great week!

  8. Sorry you’re in a weird b=mood. I get in those sometimes. I still need to read Too Late. I feel super bogged down with ARCs and hope to knock a bunch out. I have already set a bunch aside I don’t feel like reading and hope maybe I will at some point. Yay for nice weather at least!!! Have a great week!

  9. Congrats on staying on track with Goodreads! That can be so difficult at times. And good weather sounds nice! I hope you feel better soon! Weird moods suck. :/ Enjoy Deadpool! I love that movie! 😛

  10. I’m impressed you managed to read 4 books this week and that you are on track with your Goodreads challenge:). Sorry to hear the week didn’t end well and this coming one is better. Take care:)

  11. I have had the same issue with my ARCs this month and I’m participating in the challenge as well. Last year I had no problem meeting my goal, this year I barely met half. Some of these ARCs I have just aren’t my kind of read but I feel like I have to read them when they were sent to me. One of these days I’ll learn to say no better 😉 Hope you have a great week!

  12. Every year around this time I get restless with my books – especially ARCs – and end up setting tons aside. Hopefully this week you’ll smash it on the Clean Sweep. Deadpool looks great! I’ve been wanting to watch it and hope you enjoy it. Have a great week!

  13. I would never have picked you for a Rammstein fan Christy, I think it’s because of the romances you tend to enjoy I assumed you’d probably like listening to ballads or easy listening music. I’m surprised and delighted! I didn’t know Colleen Hoover had a new book out. I haven’t had much luck with her new adult titles previously, but might pick that one up seeing you enjoyed it so much. I hope you have a better week this week hun, and able to enjoy the lovely weather <3

Bwahaha! Oh, Kelly, don’t let my love for romance fool you. Horror is my first love, after all. lol. But I enjoy ALL types of music, even ballads when I’m in the mood. Too Late by CoHo is her watt pad book, so it’s free. It isn’t edited or polished up, and she warns about that, but the story itself is pretty good.

  14. I feel you on the ARCs. I just want to read summery reads right now, and forcing myself to read something I don’t want to will only make me dislike the book. It’s better that I wait. Happy Sunday!

  15. I just watched Deadpiol Friday night. It was pretty good. I’m so glad you’re loving the Mercy Thompson series. It’s one of my favorites.

    • Christy

Another Rammstein fan? Woohoo! It kind of sucked in the 90s and early 2000s not having many people to share my love for them with, but the internet is a wonderful thing! lol. I love connecting with other fans. I only just finished the 2nd MT book, and really like the series so far. I think it’ll be worth the hype. Hope you can get the 1st book soon.

    • Christy

I don’t know if it made him famous, but maybe a little more mainstream? Probably because it’s YA. I read his Lone Ranger book and Smoke Signals in the 90s, and then Reservation Blues in a Native American lit class in college. Then Indian Killer and another book, so I’m not quite sure why I haven’t read True Diary yet. I did hear it was on a banned book list, though. Imagine a huge eye-roll inserted here – lol.

Haha – after reading back over my birdie comment, I figured I’d explain a little more for anyone else who might read it and not … ‘get me’. 😀

Woohoo! I can’t wait to see what you put together.

  16. Sorry to hear your week didn’t end as well as it started. My week had some ups and downs as well. I am 28 books ahead of my goodreads challenge, I set my goal too low and read more than I expected. It can be stressing when you’re behind so i usually set it a bit on the low side. I hope you’ll have a great week!

  17. True Diary of a PT Indian is good! I had to read it for my adolescent literature class years ago. I was behind on my GR challenge and now I’m five books ahead. I plan on listening to audiobooks all summer to clear out my backlog from Audiobook SYNC from the last two years. I’ll have to look at adjusting the speed! Happy reading!

  18. I’ve got to get that Colleen Hoover book. Loved Diary of a True Indian. I am ahead of my Goodreads challenge, hope you stay ahead of yours.

  19. Deadpool was really good! We watched it again last week as well. The fact that you listen to Rammstein further cements the fact that you are one awesome woman. I’m six books ahead of schedule thankfully…I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I probably need to. I hope you have a better week Christyz1
