Mercedes "Mercy" Thompson is a talented Volkswagen mechanic living in the Tri-Cities area of Washington. She also happens to be a walker, a magical being with the power to shift into a coyote at will. Mercy's next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a bus for a vampire. This is the world of Mercy Thompson, one that looks a lot like ours but is populated by those things that go bump in the night. And Mercy's connection to those things is about to get her into some serious hot water...
I’m excited to finally start the Mercy Thompson series! Moon Called was a fantastic introduction to this world and its vast set of marvelous characters. I’m 100% sold, and have no doubt I’ll eagerly stick with Mercy until the end.
The first book or two in the urban fantasy genre have a tendency to be a … struggle, in a way. Mostly due to the overwhelming world build. That wasn’t the case at all with Moon Called. The story was totally engaging and perfectly paced. It was easy to really become absorbed in Mercy’s world without feeling bombarded.
Mercy is definitely a heroine I instantly took a liking too. Her deadpan snark is entertaining, especially when dealing with all those dominate males! She’s an intelligent, kick-ass, mechanic who doesn’t like being told what to do. What’s not to love?
Not only is Mercy an awesome heroine, but I’m so loving all the other characters and all the different dynamics. Especially when it comes to their interactions with Mercy.
I decided to go the audio route and glad I did. Lorelei King kills it! She does an amazing job with all the different voices and accents, truly becoming the characters.
As much as I wish I would’ve read this years ago, I’m extremely happy there’s already so many books in the series out, because I can’t wait to listen to the next installment.
Wahoo. So glad you started this. I would listen to the Alpha & Omega series too..there is crossover 🙂
Ah yes you’ll see, it’s a really amazing series! I love it!
I can’t even begin to say how happy I am you loved your cherry-popping introduction to Mercy Thompson and her world, Christy! This is one of my favorite series, and Mercy is a big part of why 🙂 I hope you’ll keep loving all those dynamics, I look forward to reading your thoughts on them 🙂
I remember reading this one the first time…good times
I can’t wait to start this series either! I’m getting close in the library waiting line 🙂 especially after your review! “kick-ass, mechanic who doesn’t like being told what to do” HELL YEAH! 🙂 I’m glad you just started Christy. I was feeling the only one in the universe that hadn’t 🙂
Whhhhaaaaaattttttt? You hadn’t read the Mercy Thompson series before now?!!!! I’m so glad you’re getting to it! WOO HOO!!!! Definitely one of my all time favorites:) I can’t wait to see what you think of all the books. GET READING CHRISTY!!!
Woo hoo! Let me know when you catch up to me and we will buddy read!
I started this series back in 2011 and then I finally caught up this year. I love it. I need to dig into Alpha and Omega.
I’m thinking of starting this series too. Glad to hear it was awesome!
Yay! I am so glad that you have started this series. I absolutely love Patricia Briggs. The Alpha and Omega series is equally wonderful and set in the same world with overlapping characters. I wish I could read it again for the first time. I recently did a re-read of this one in audio and thought the narrator was great as well. Great review!
This is one of the urban fantasies I’ve been wanting to read for a long time, but have just not gotten around to. It definitely sounds like it was a great read particularly with all the characters and their dynamics! I love the sound of Mercy as well. Lovely review!
I struggle with the same issues when it comes to urban fantasy, it’s often hard to get your head around all the world building and backstory usually. But this sounds so well written and thought out. So glad you enjoyed this one Christy, wonderful review <3
I have never read urban fantasy but this book looks good! Great review, have a happy Friday!
It is nice to come into a series late in the game sometimes because you can binge a series. I love this series too. Lorelei King does a great job. I highly recommend you pick up the Alpha & Omega series as well. It is set in the same world, but follows Bran’s son Charles in the Montana pack. It is narrated by Holter Graham who does a great job too.
Yay! I love this series. You will probably want to read the Alpha & Omega series mixed in, too.
So glad you like it! Although I started reading Patricia Briggs in the Alpha and Omega series, Mercy and the gang really grew on me. Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the books in the series 🙂
I have wanted to try this author out for quite a few years. And Mercy sounds so fantastic.
I love this series so hard! I am woefully behind but I am looking forward to catching up. I’ve heard it is hard to switch Lorelei’s voice with Mercy and Charlie (Charlie Davidson series) because she does both. I am trying to finish Lorelei with Charlie before I move on with Mercy… probably as a reread of sorts. 🙂 Welcome to Mercytown. LOL
I see this series around all the time. I so need to add it to the forever long list. Glad you enjoyed it!!
I’m going to re-read this first book soon. I’m jealous of the folks who are caught up! Enjoy the rest, Christy!
I love the audio on this series. Enjoy!
This is one of my favorite series! I love everything Patricia Briggs writes! 🙂
I love this series! it is what started my love of the UF genre. Mercy is amazing and the books get better and better.
A great review!
She’s an awesome narrator for this series. I listened to books 5 and 6 I think it was on audio and loved em. So excited to see you starting these. She’s fantastic.
I love, love Mercy, Christy! I’m so glad you finally were introduced. 😉 I know the feeling about ‘being the last to the party’ but who cares?!? You’re here now! And Mercy’s story just gets better. Great review!
