The paranormal and the futuristic meet in this thrilling novella featuring your favorite badass heroines from two of “the amazingly gifted” (RT Book Reviews) Kim Harrison’s most beloved series: the Hollows and the Peri Reed Chronicles. The magic of the Hollows runs full force into the technological sophistication of The Drafter when a device capable of carrying a city’s data stream pulls Rachel, the bounty hunter witch of the Hollows, between realities, marooning her in a world where the supernatural holds no sway. To get Rachel and Jenks home, Peri, the dangerous renegade of 2030, must decide what will chart her future: her blind trust in those who grant her power, or her intuition telling her to believe.
What a fun little mash up of The Hollows and The Peri Reed Chronicles! I’ve missed Rachel and Jenks, so I was super excited to see them again. Especially in Peri’s world! I really enjoyed seeing these three work together, and seeing Rachel through Peri’s perspective.
This isn’t a necessary read for either series, but it’s still a must read for fans.

From the Desk of Donna Edith…
My services are unconventional. My clients come to me with needs and I match them to other clients with needs of their own…
Promising young architect Killian Fitzroy: Driven, clever, eager to prove himself. Starved for sex, though he’s come to me for professional assistance, not personal. Needs: Someone unique, creative and fast. An artist with a feminine perspective to breathe life into a house he’s built.
Aspiring scenic designer Vessa Ratham: Sensuous, spontaneous, but secretive. Recently returned to Vermont armed with an art degree that qualifies her for little more than waiting tables. Needs: An opportunity to shine.
Yes, Killian and Vessa will satisfy each other nicely—in more ways than one.
I didn’t dislike The Dirty Secret or think it was totally terrible. It was just mostly … boring. I didn’t feel much for the characters and it was basically the same thing over and over. Decorate, sex, and repeat. By the time I was halfway through, I felt like I was flipping back and forth between porn and the HGTV channel. I enjoy both, by the way. It just got redundant in this case.
It’s a pretty short book, but the first half dragged. I was much more interested in the second half when it finally started getting into Vessa’s big secret. I would’ve loved more of that whole situation.
So yeah, it was okay.
Flipping back and forth between port and HGTV. ….bwahaha. Thanks for the giggles. Great mini reviews
Damn smartphone I said porn
Nice minis 🙂
I really enjoyed the Peri and Rachel mash-up – definitely a must-read for fans 🙂 I haven’t heard of your other mini- not sure if that would work for me.
While Waylaid sounds pretty good, The Dirty Secret sounds a little meh sadly. Books with too much repetition get boring after a few chapters. goes to show what a committed reader you are Christy to be able to make it through. Luckily it was a shorter read. Sorry that one didn’t work for you buy wonderful reviews nonetheless <3 <3
Oh man The Dirty Secret doesn’t sound too good at it, it sounds pretty lacklustre. Sorry to hear that, I hope your next read is better!
Kim Harrison is on my authors I must read list. You have me intrigued with the porn/HGTV reference. If I ever pick that one up that is why 🙂
I think I’m bored from the synopsis’ for these two. Wake me up when the porn starts 😉 Great mini reviews!!
“By the time I was halfway through, I felt like I was flipping back and forth between porn and the HGTV channel.”
*dies laughing* While that sound fun for a little while, eventually it would definitely get boring. Too bad on that one, but I’m glad Waylaid was a win!
LOL I also die laughing. Did they really keep decorating and then have sex, on repeat? You might think there would be more to the story. The next book should be good though.
I’ll definitely have to read Waylaid because I LOVE the Hollows series. I haven’t read her other series yet though.
So what was the big dirty secret anyway? I am looking forward to reading Waylaid!
LOL if you read Kim;s second post out of context it is priceless. 😛
I still need to finish the Hollows series. I think I’m only on book five or something awful like that. 🙁
I really need to read more Kim Harrison. I wanted to request Waylaid but I am so far behind that I didn’t want to jump ahead. I love your description of The Dirty Secret – porn and the HGTV channel. You made me laugh. Great mini reviews, Christy!
Gah, I’m all sexed out. I think I need some YA or super clean reads to wash away my voyeuristic sins.
Great quickie reviews you have here!! I do want to pick up Kim Harrison soon though.
Kim reviewed that first book and I thought it was so interesting the author did that. It makes me want to try out both series just so I can read that mashup! I’m glad that was a hit for you.
“I felt like I was flipping back and forth between porn and the HGTV channel”
OMGGGG! HAHAHAHA! What a description! I get annoyed with books that are repetitive like that too, so I feel you! I’m sorry that wasn’t the best book for you!
Thanks for the entertaining reviews as always, Christy! 🙂
Eeesh. At least The Dirty Secret was super short. Sucks that there was no content to it though. :\ I don’t know if I could handle the volleyball of HGTV and porn. LoL
I wasn’t sure about the Peri and Rachel mashup, but after reading a few reviews, I’m going to give it a try. I’m 99% sure I would not enjoy a mashup between porn and HGTV, so I will not be trying that one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙂
I so agree with you on Waylaid! I have only read the first book in the Hollow’s series and I want to read more. What was with the cat? 😀
I’ve never read a Kim Harrison book before, but I see one pop up in my suggestions a lot on GR. I may have to give one or both of those series a try.
LOL flipping back and forth between port and HGTV. That’s very unfortunate for The Dirty Secret, unless you’re into that kind of stuff I guess, haha.
Glad Waylaid was good!
I really cannot stand a boring read, gonna have to pass on The Dirty Secret for sure. Thanks for these reviews!
Oh that’s not good when a short book drags 🙁
I still need to read The Peri Reed Chronicles before I get to waylaid. Love a series mash-up though.
