Charmingly murderous anti-hero Joe Goldberg continues his twisted quest for the perfect love in this thrilling follow-up to the “deeply dark yet mesmerizing” You. When Joe follows the woman he wants to marry to the West Coast, he never imagines that his obsession will lead him to such tragedy.
Oh, Joe Goldberg, you crazy sonofabitch, you.
You became one of my all-time favorite books, so I was excited and hesitant to read Hidden Bodies. I craved more Joe, but was worried this book wouldn’t have the same magic as You. Hidden Bodies does have a slightly different feel to it, but it’s still so very good!
Joe goes on quite the journey in Hidden Bodies. He meets all sorts of new people in Hollywood, which leads to some very interesting opportunities for him. And of course, it gets craaaazy!
What I love so much is how seemingly normal and likable Joe is to other people, and they have no idea what lurks beneath. I mean, Joe could be anyone. His delusions are both humorous and terrifying. Yet, he’s a character we can’t help but to root for, and how dare other characters treat him badly. It’s an effed up feeling. Joe truly is a fascinating anti-hero.
His pessimism cracks me up. He tends to lull us into this sense of security in a way, and then bam, we’re reminded just how freaking dangerous our lovable Joe is. It’s almost a shock. Like, oh yeah, dude is seriously fucked in the head. And still, we love him. It’s a sickness, I tell you. I certainly don’t want the cure, though.
Kepnes definitely didn’t disappoint with Hidden Bodies, and I look forward to seeing what she puts out next.
I want to read You now though 😉
I can’t seem to recall ever hearing about this series before. But you have me intrigued at the Joe’s character. Sometimes you need a bit of crazy and quirky personality in your life. Thanks for putting this on my radar, Christy! 🙂
God, I love Caroline Kepnes. She is a freaking genius because she somehow manages to get me to root for Joe, who is clearly a sociopath.I loved You and thought Hidden Bodies was just as twisted and dark, if not a bit slow at times. What is great at being in his head is that I sometimes find myself hating the same people he hates. Then I have to ask myself if those people are really as bad as Joe says or if maybe Joe is just a super unreliable narrator and I am seeing everything through sociopath colored lenses. Ha. Great review!
I agree totally. I love Joe. I root for him. And the all of a sudden I remember he is CRAZY! I thought this one felt a bit different but it was still just as good. I agree I am looking forward to more from Caroline Kepnes. Great review!
I started reading this last week and had to pause half way, for some reason it started
To bore me. I don’t know if it’s my mood or if I’m the odd nut who might not like the book.
I’ll give it another go at some point , Joe is a good lead but the slow pace of cornering Amy is making me impatient.
Joe is crazy, and funny and freaking and scary ..but I love him.
I really need to meet Joe Christy! There’s little I love more than an anti-hero, and Joe seems like he’s the be all end all of anti-heroes. I can’t wait to see how he seems so normal to everyone he meets but then is beyond messed up under the surface. Fantastic review!
I know that feeling when you love one book by the author and am hesistant and excited to read more books by that author. I am glad to hear you enjoyed this one as well even though it had a slightly different feel. I quite like anti-heroes, they are interesting to read about.
I think I’ll be grabbing You from the library now. Everyone is raving about this series!
I have a copy of this and I keep putting this off as I am not sure I am ready to go back into the freakiness of Joe’s head, He is a freaky little guy.
There really is no other character out there quite like Joe. 😉
Yeah I cannot wait to read this one, asap. I really loved You.
Okay, now I’m totally curious about Joe. You have me wanting to read that first book and then immediately go to this one. Well done!
I jst got both last week and I’m excited to get to them! They sound so twisted and intense!
Are my fears unfounded? It seems like this series is the type that will scare the bejeezus out of me. Lol.
I didn’t know about it but wow that good? YOu made me really curious!
I found it hard not to love Joe in this book. He was easy to like and it was just so interesting to spend time in his head. I thought that the characters in this book were a lot better than in You. Great review!
Joe sounds like an easy to like character and get in his head
I love that you get so swept away that you forget how dangerous Joe is. Glad you took a chance on the sequel and enjoyed it Christy!
I want to try this series! It sounds so twisty.
I’ve never met Joe, Christy, but you definitely have me very intrigued! Is he really dangerous, or just kind of crazy? Great review 🙂
Lexie! You HAVE to read You and meet Joe! HAVE TO! He’s … dangerous. It’s such a crazy ride with plenty of dark humor.
I can’t wait to receive my copy – I am absolutely dying to read this one! It sounds like so much fun, I can’t imagine Joe in Hollywood – the horror! Great review Christy!
I think I need to meet Joe, Christy. You have me curious about him. I’d not heard of You or Caroline Kepnes so thanks for putting them on my radar. I’m glad you weren’t disappointed in him or this book. 🙂
This series is SOOOOOO you…. I can see why you were hesitant to read this one. Now NEXT one, what could she do with Joe then, send him to Alaska??? 😉
I feel like I need to catch up and read the first one already! I need to meet Joe!
I keep putting You off because I am all romance right now, but I seriously need to get to it. Everyone I know loves the sequel as well.
I thought both Joe and …. (the victim?) were hilarious in the first novel so I’m glad that continues. I was almost envious of their wittiness!
Oh damn. I still have book one on my review pile. #BloggerShame
YES!!! Love this and love Joe!! I need the next book now!!
