Alex Dawn is saying no to men. No to bad relationships, disappointments, and smooth-talkers. Focusing on her family and her job at Payton and Sons Automotive keeps her mind occupied and her heart content. She doesn’t really miss a man’s touch, until one night, a man shows up with the body of a god and a voice from her dirtiest dreams.
L.M. Spencer is only in Tory, Maryland, to scope out the town as a possible site for one of his company's hotels. The British businessman didn’t expect his car to break down or to find the hottest little American he’s ever seen holding a tire iron, piercing him with bright blue eyes.
They agree to one hot night, one dirty deed to burn out the chemistry between them. But from their first kiss, Alex can’t stop saying yes to this man. And when Spencer’s company threatens everything she cares about, they must make the choice to stand together or apart.
Who else has AC/DC running through their head now? Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap …
Ahem, anyway.
Okay, I’ve professed my love for the previous two books in the Mechanics of Love series, and I expected it to peak with Dirty Talk since I was all about Brent. I mean, I’ve loved Alex since she stepped on the scene in the first book, but no way was I expecting Dirty Deeds to be my favorite of the three. I honestly thought I’d like this one the least. Bravo, Megan Erickson, for making me the fool. A very pleased, and happy fool.
Like I said, I loved Alex from the beginning, but being in her head and getting to see a whole other side of her kind of knocked me on my ass. She’s a rough around the edges, sassy mechanic, which is pretty hot. However, she still loves to be loved, and the woman is wicked sexy! Plus, she references A Clockwork Orange, so she’s a total keeper. And don’t let Spencer’s posh British exterior fool you, there’s a whole other side to him too. I’ll just say they have a lot in common.
Seriously, the author matched these two perfectly! Again, I got something different than what I expected, and it made me so damn happy. Spencer was so good for her and exactly what she needed after that crap she had been through. It was sexy as hell the way he’d let her dictate what would happen, because it was definitely something she needed. I’d say this was the steamiest of the series, but it’s done so incredibly well.
Something that I truly appreciate about these two is even though they’d hit a bump or have some kind of argument, they would calm down and talk about it, putting things in perspective. They were adult about it. Even better, there were a lot of great times between them with fun banter, and the playfulness and teasing induced many smiles.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I like to be difficult.”
He grinned at that. “Yes, well, call me a masochist, but that’s what I like so much about you.”
Ahh, and these Payton boys … yeah, I’d definitely want them to have my back. I love how close and supportive their family is, even the gruffest patriarch. Not only family either, friendships are a big factor too, and I loved that the girls had plenty of quality time together! Really though, friends are pretty much family with this group.
I just adored the hell out of Dirty Deeds. It’s a fairly quick read, but it’s without a doubt a strong ending to a fantastic series.
Just as she is saying no to men, a man comes along, 😉
I’m glad to see you had a great time again with the book like that! I don’t remember the others or I need to check the covers out but it sounds really nice.
Oh, I’m so glad Dirty Deeds was even better than the first two books in the series, Christy! I own the first one, and now, I just added the second and third to my shelves as well 🙂
I love it when characters use book references… if they are well read, I love them even more 😀
Yesss surprisingly it’s quite rare to have a couple be adult and actually try and resolve their differences this maturely! Thanks for the review Christy.
I didn’t have AC/DC in my head but now I do!! And I am sure it will there all day so thanks 😉 Wow a couple acting like adults. That’s crazy stuff right there. I need to get to this series!
I read Dirty Thoughts over the summer and really liked it but when Alex showed up right in the end, I knew she would be my favorite character (she is so badass!) I should definitely continue the series so I can get around to reading her series and meeting her hot SO.
Glad you liked this one, Christy! 🙂
I think that I’ll put the first book on my library wish list because I’ve seen it around too much and everyone is in on the loop, except me. *Sad face* Glad that you loved this so much!
Agreed… what else can I say?!?!? Simpatico…
“Something that I truly appreciate about these two is even though they’d hit a bump or have some kind of argument, they would calm down and talk about it, putting things in perspective.”
SOLD CHRISTY!!!! I have little doubt these two will become a favorite couple of mine as well, I love a relationship full of communication and they are sadly rare. Definitely adding this to the list:)
Their banter and handling issues like adults sounds great.
No, no, no, this won’t do ! Hey, I just bought the first, leave me some time to read it before tempting me again, you evil temptress you !
YOu need to kick my butt and make me read these!
Dirty Deeds and there done dirt cheap… yeah thanks for that. I have read some great reviews for this one. I am like Ali, I need to be prodded to read this.
This sounds like a great read! I love a British accent and that these 2 talk. There’s nothing that annoys me more in a romance when the two characters sulk and act like children. I know in real life that happens a bit but it’s no fun to read. I need to go find the first one!
That’s a pleasant surprise that this one turned out to be your favourite when you expected it to be the least favourite one. And these two really sound like a great match. And I love it when a couple actually talks things through! Great review!
Sounds good overall. I like the sound of this, very swoony, not so angsty.
I adored this one as well! At this point I think I’ll eat up every book that this woman writes. She’s like the perfect author for me! 🙂
So glad you loved it, Christy!
oh I can hardly wait to read this one. I loved the first book, so its good to know that this one is a fabulous one. I really like that these characters act like adults in their relationship.
that’s interesting how calm and the approach they would take when hit an argument, kind of refreshing.
I need Santa to send me this series..because apparently I am seriously missing out!!
You had me with the British hero…must read! I like how you mention that the author matched them perfectly.
This looks like fun and yes, I totally have that song in my head now. I do think I need to start this series!
Well, I didn’t…until you mentioned it. Now I will not be able to get the song out of my head. Sigh.
This sounds like a treat. I haven’t read anything by this author so reading this could be fun!
I haven’t read this series yet but you got me to buy Dirty Talk so I hope I will read it soon! I need to get on with all the series. Lovely review!
Hmmm, I don’t see a downside to this one. That’s awesome that the author gave you a big surprise for the latest book when you were least expecting it.
Oh this one was so very good! I still need to write my review for it, but I loved Alex and those darn Payton men. Great review!
This sounds adorbs but a reference from A Clockwork Orange? I am all over that.
This is my favorite book of this series. Not only because I am just a total Alex fan, but she really did pair her with the right dude. I will say the ending was abrupt for me. I needed a little more closure and was surprised to turn the page and be done! I love how Megan’s writing just keeps getting better and better as do her stories!
I love this author and this series and was super excited to read this, then I got distracted by stuff but you just reminded me that I have this on my kindle 🙂
