Brent Payton works hard, plays hard, and has earned his ladies' man reputation. But he's more than just a good time, even though no one seems to see it. Until a gorgeous brunette with knockout curves and big, thoughtful eyes walks into his family's garage and makes Brent want more.
Ivy Dawn and her sister are done with men, all of them. They've uprooted their lives too many times on account of the opposite sex, but that's over now. The plan seems easy until a sexy, dirty-talking mechanic bursts in Ivy's life and shakes everything up.
Brent can't resist the one person who sees past his devil-may-care façade, and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But she has secrets of her own and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she'll run again or if she'll take a chance on forever.
Give me some Dirty Talk, baby! I was so freaking eager to read this book after meeting Brent in Dirty Thoughts. I’m a total sucker for a great sense of humor, and Brent has a whole lot of it. I’m thrilled to say Dirty Talk was a fun, quick read that hit all the right feels.
Ah, Mr. Brent Payton is quite a jokester and one of those completely lovable asshole types that’s always messing around with people. Honestly, I was a little worried he’d lose some of that in his own book and become too serious. Which is kind of funny, because that was actually an issue he had. People saw him as the silly guy that doesn’t take things serious, so they never really took him seriously. The author actually did a great job, because he didn’t do a 180 and become a completely different character. Brent was still the same funny guy, except we saw a deeper, more serious part of him. It only made me love him more! Don’t even get me started on how freaking adorable he was with Violet, Ivy’s six year old daughter, because my ovaries might explode.
Ivy … thought she was going to be all timid and flighty and just more on the annoying pain in the ass side. Nope, not the case. She actually surprised me. Yes, she had some hesitation about going out with Brent, but their dates were always a good time. I love that we got to see them having fun and growing closer without being weighed down with a bunch of angst. There were actually some incredibly sweet moments that totally had me smiling.
“At first, she kept her hand flat on the seat where it’d been. Then, slowly, so slowly, she curled her fingers around his. He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, and her gaze was on their hands, a small smile on her face. He stared at the road and grinned.”
That doesn’t mean he didn’t drive her crazy at times. It was always in an entertaining way, though, because even when she wanted to smack him, she wanted to kiss him at the same time. I especially love that she was the aggressor at times when making moves too. The chemistry between them is fantastic, that’s for sure.
I adore the secondary characters too, both old and new. Big ole gruff papa Payton even warmed my heart at one point. And Alex, oh I love this tough girl and look forward to her getting a HEA..
So yeah, the author totally made me a happy girl and did right by Brent in Dirty Talk. If you haven’t met the Payton family yet, it’s time to do so!
Humor is a big attraction to me in romance stories. I like to see the characters having fun and it not always being about the drama.
I’ll have to give this series a go.
I’ve always wanted to start this series but something holds me back. And yes, a man with a sense of humor is a must in my book. Great review!
Ohhh this sounds really good! Gonna one click it right now! Do I need to read book one to understand this one?
I adore this series. And each book gets better. I just finished Dirty Deeds and Alex and Spencer are probably my favorite couple, though it’s hard to beat Ivy and Brent for me! I was just recommending this series to a friend yesterday! Great review. Glad you liked it!
I can’t believe I never read this series or wanted to for that matter. I know I would love Brent so much! I love that he’s silly though! I mean, we are always getting macho, tough guys which I totally don’t mind but I like to see those guys that are hilarious have a book as well. I’m very excited for this! Thank you for pointing out that this book is on sale!!! Excuse me while I go buy it!
I have seen such good things on this series. And for that price I might have to give it a try. Great review!!
This sounds good and I love the sound of Brent. Humor is always a good thing and I love it when a character is more than it appears. Going on the TBR!
I like the sound of how funny this book is and how Brent is a silly guy who loves to joke around, but you also see his more serious side. And that’s great there isn’t too much angst while they grow closer. I like seeing relationships develop slowly like that. This sounds like a great series with a good romance, fun characters and not too much angst!
YESSSS, Christy!! I’m so happy you loved Brent & Ivy! I adore all of this woman’s books. I don’t know how she does it, but she makes me fall in love with her stories every time. I loved their dates too and Brent turned out to be much sweeter than I expected! Such a romantic. 🙂
I’m reading Alex’s book and it’s fantastic so far! 🙂
Yeah, I’d read it
Gotta love the dirty talking heroes who are also adorable!
Ahhh you make these sound so fun. I have book one on my tbr pile still. One day hopefully. 😀
Dang it, I have the first one I just need to make time for it!
I’m thinking “oh yes, this sounds good and I need to read it” and then you talk about exploding ovaries (I hope you are okay) and now I know I need to read about this swoony (and dangerous LOL) character! Must put this one on the wishlist.
This sounds all kinds of fun, Christy. You always find the good ones – and by good, I really mean, dirty. LOL.
I would probably love the series..but I ate all of my Amazon funds. I added the series to my wishlist 🙂
Great to see the author stuck true to Brent’s character. And flighty girls are annoying, glad to see Ivy wasn’t! I need to get to it and read this book… I did buy it already!
They do sound fun to watch get closer
See, now I like that. You have to leave the lovable assholes as assholes, you can’t flower them up just cuz they got their own book. But him becoming deeper is just fine.
You did it again – I just bought it !!
I mean, I bought the first book in the series, but now that I’ve read it, I need this one… yesterday !
[…] Guess who tempted me again ? Christy […]
