What a week. It has been so disgusting around here. There’s still a massive fire and couple others above us, and it’s making the air miserable. The valley is in a basin, so it all gets trapped (which is why we have the worst air in the country). It seriously looks and smells like the Apocalypse outside. The air quality level has been at orange most of the week, but they raised to red last night. They’ve been cancelling all outdoor activities, but my son had a XC meet this morning (Saturday) that proceeded. There was so much ash falling from the sky, his hair was covered in it. I feel worse for all the people who have to evacuate and lose their homes, even the Cat Haven has been evacuating all the big cats. Not to mention we’ve been hitting near record breaking temps during the week, 105°. I think it’s time for an extended vacation to somewhere … breathable. All those firemen up there from all over, working their asses off, definitely deserve a huge vacation.
On to other news … it was a great review week. Meaning, I had some fantastic books on the blog. I’ve been setting certain review books aside because I’m not in the mood for them. I hate doing that, but I’d rather wait and give them a fair shot without torturing myself.
Also, there are some fun events coming up in October and November. Check the sidebar → and go sign-up.
On the Blog
- Sustained by Emma Chase (review) – I made my case of why it’s a must read.
- Darken the Stars by Amy A. Bartol (review) – It’s ridiculous how much I love this series.
- The Pact by Karina Halle (review) – *sigh* I can always count on Karina for an amazing read.

Not much this week, thank goodness.
For Review:
I was so surprised and excited to get Misconduct in the mail! I forgot Penelope Douglas had a new book coming out soon. And I enjoyed another book I read in this series by Jaci Burton, so I snagged the holiday novella to read during the Hohoho Read-a-thon.
Purchased:
I listened to Succubus Dreams, and now I’m itching to listen to Succubus Heat. I’m loving this series! I snagged a few freebies too, but don’t feel like posting them.
I haven’t read the Alice in Zombieland series yet, so hell yeah I grabbed the bundle of the first 3 books for $2.99!
What I’m Listening To
Have a great week!
Praying ya’ll get some much needed rain. I snagged the box set. I read book one but at that price for all 3 ..hells yes. I used my credit this month for Succubus Heat..lol
Oh, that ash sounds miserable! I hope the fires get put out and the ash stops falling soon! 🙁 Yay for good books though. 🙂
Sorry to hear about the fires and the ash. I hope it lets up soon. As you said, it’s worse for those having to evacuate but something like that can be stressful for all involved.
Hope you have another good reading week this week!
Do you live in California area? We’ve seen video clips of fires in that area. Terrible really. I see you have Murder of Crowes there in your side bar as being read at moment. I so adore that series. Totally hooked!
Yeah, in CA. The Rough fire is the major one in this area. I am loving Murder of Crows! Meg and Simon crack me up sometimes.
Oh that weather sounds awful 🙁 I hope the fires die down and you get some rain/cooler weather. There’s nothing worse than fire season, I sure don’t envy folk that live in dangerous areas.
Looks like you picked up some fun books this week, I hope you enjoy them!
Scary! I hope you will be ok
Ugh! I was on holiday in Cape Town, South Africa the year they were having the wildfires in the area and it was horrific. You could taste the smoke in your throat every time you went outside and my eyes were streaming with tears. I only had to put up with it for a week but it was terrible so I dread to think what your family is suffering with it. I really hope things get better soon.
Oh no, the weather sounds horrible, I hope you and everyone in your family is ok. As well as the rest of your town! Bushfire season happens quite often in Australia during summer, and it’s just scary. Everyone definitely deserves a well earned holiday.
Glad to hear you had a good review week Christy! Hope you have a lovely week 🙂
Oh, wow! That sounds terrible. I hope the fire die out soon and the air quality gets better again. Have a great week, nonetheless.
You just killed my NetGalley % – Thanks a lot, goober (edited).
Seriously – I’m so freakin’ sorry your boy had to run, long distance no less, in the bad air!!!! I hated the ashes when I was there for one fire. Ruins your car – okay, the lungs are far worse but what about my clear coat!!! Yeah, I’m sure you want to leave but at the same time, I wouldn’t want to leave my stuff. Hang in there, girly! Too bad they don’t make a neti-pot for your lungs 🙂
You are most welcome.
lol – Yeah, the cars have had a nice ash dusting on them. So many of the runners were sneezes like crazy right after they finished. They would’ve canceled it if it was such a big invitational – 24 schools from all over CA were there. Omg, yes, neti-pots rock!
The fires sound terrible. I would definitely opt for a vacation, too, if I could afford it. Our firefighters do work their tails off and deserve more than they’ll take. I hope y’all get some rain soon to combat the fires.
I’ve been watching the fires on the news and heard about them moving the big cats. I can’t imagine how awful it must be there. I hope the rain falls and helps everyone.
I also sometimes have to set review books aside until I’m in the mid for them. I often read a lot of the same genre and just need something different to spice up my reading again.
Loved the Succubus series, and good to hear you are too.
I liked the first Alice book and I did read the SUccubus books too. happy reading!
I can’t imagine how difficult this is for everyone between the heat, the air, and just the worry it’s got to be impossible. Hope it gets better soon or you’re able to get a vacation to somewhere breathable soon. Have a great week and stay as cool as you can!
We had those horrible fires a few weeks back and hotter than hot weather as well so I totally understand where you are coning from. Our air is just now finally (weeks later) getting better. It has still been gross and hazy here. I think the air quality is still yellow some days. Yuck!
I hope all the firefighters are safe and get the fires under control soon. So scary!
Yay for a good book week though. I have barely been reading and before long I have a feeling I’m going to really be behind in posts. 🙁
I’ve been watching the fires on the news and it does look like the end of the world. I cannot believe they still held the XC meet, all that heavy breathing in that air! My niece has to use an inhaler before she runs her meets, so I know her coach wouldn’t have even taken her.
Yeah, they cancelled most outdoor activities around here. This was college level, and is was a big invitational with schools from all over California. A lot of runners were sneezing like crazy when they finished, so yeah, anyone who’s already sensitive was warned and encouraged not to be out there.
Oh wow…those fires are horrible. I pray for all those in that area.
Glad you had a good book week. I hope this one is good too.
Sorry to hear about the fires. I experienced that two years ago in Colorado Springs. The smoke and flames was around for weeks.
All that fire and ash sounds awful, please stay safe!
I’ve got the Alice in Zombieland books on my TBR pile, I can’t wait to read them as it does sound a great match!
Hope you have a good week!
So sorry about the fires and the air and all that. It really is horrible and I hope it gets better. Yay for a good book week. And totally get having to put aside books if you aren’t’ in the mood. Hope you enjoy our new books and have a great week!
That’s awful about the air quality, and your son still had to take part with ash falling from the sky? Doesn’t really seem safe. Sheesh – sports man. haha I hope things let up soon for all of you!
Have a great week.
Those fires are so bad. I hope they are over soon.
Grabbed that Showalter bundle too, hard to resist.
I hope that massive fire gets resolved soon. That sounds horrible, not being able to breath clean fresh air.
If you do happen to need to evacuate, just pack the car and go. Everything else can be replaced. We have scorching hot summers in Australia, but you never get used to the nerves that come along with the smell of a bushfire. Sounds like it’s best to stay indoors whenever possible and pop some damp towels against Windows and doors to filter the air. Stay safe Christy <3
I had to go and get that series by Emma Chase it sounds fantastic.
I can’t even imagine what it’s like to be in the situation so many along the west coast are in right now. I wish I could share our current weather with you, it randomly decided to become Fall this week so we traded our low 90’s for low 70’s.
I really need to get Bits and Pieces…I might be able to talk the boyfriend into buying it since he loved the series.
I liked the Succubus series well enough even though I much prefer Mead’s Age of X series. I’ve never even heard about Misconduct, but it looks great. Happy reading!
I love. Love. Love. Sustained. I cried many many tears. <3
I have seen the fires on the news down here, 1000 homes lost over the last few days… but in another part of the US it’s flooding! Crazy weather.
(Keep an eye out for hot Aussie firefighters we sent over *wink*)
Glad you are loving the Georgina Kincaid series. I loved that one!
Hell yeah, Misconduct. You go girl. Looks sexy. Enjoy all your pretties.
