He'll make her a bet she can't refuse...
Lily McIntire is in the creepiest mansion in town. Alone. At night. Because she's an idiot-and can't ignore a dare from her cocky and infuriatingly hot co-worker, Marcus Black. But she'll be damned if she's going to give him the satisfaction of winning.
Marcus has had a thing for Lily for ages, and he has no intention of losing this bet. His plan? Scare her out of the house, and into his arms. Once there, scaring her turns into protecting her and soon after, into seducing her. And his plan is working...
Lily is having trouble relegating Marcus to the role of "asshat" as easily as before. He came to her rescue, and he's actually funny. Charming. Sexy as sin on a stick. But Lily has a strict no-love-in-the-workplace rule, and even one night of the best sex ever won't make her change her mind. So she's calling everything off...
Surviving a night in the mansion might just be the easy part. Surviving Marcus's increasingly convincing advances is going to take everything she has. Losing is not an option...
I’ve read a couple of Jessica Lemmon’s books and loved them, so I was looking forward to reading If You Dare. It turned out to be such a good book! Really, it’s just flat out fun with a fantastic mix if feels.
Lily and Marcus are an absolute delight! They’ve worked together for two years and have a very competitive dynamic that I love. They dare each other to do things, which is how the bet of spending the night in a haunted house comes about. One night in Willow Mansion, and a Hawaiian vacation becomes Lily’s.
Marcus is a cocky guy, but it’s in a charming and adorable way. It was cute how much he was crushing on Lily for so long, and made for some awkwardly funny moments. Lily is always so strait-laced and has good reason not to get involved with a co-worker, so it was a lot of fun watching these two together.
There’s just something I love about a man who’s so self-assured trying to win over a reluctant woman, especially when there’s some great chemistry going on. Good banter and teasing is always a huge plus, and there’s plenty between Marcus and Lily. They’re very amusing, that’s for sure!
The entire story doesn’t take place in the mansion, but it’s definitely a good beginning chunk that gets the heart racing in more ways than one. The journey they took was certainly entertaining and had its steamy moments. I don’t usually like mentioning endings, but I have to say this one was too freaking adorable!
Overall, I enjoyed If You Dare immensely. It’s a fairly quick read, yet left me feeling full and completely satisfied.
I had fun with this one too. I like Lemmon and can’t wait for her next release
Glad you loved this one! And a mansion you say! You have me curious about this one, and the adorable ending!
Hahah oh dear Marcus and Lily sound like me and my bf when we got together lol! Love the review!
Ooooo yay for adorable endings Christy! This sounds right up my alley at the moment, so it’s going on my list for sure. I love a self-assured guy/reluctant woman pairing as well:)
I tried this one, but there was something about it that didn’t click with me, so I quickly DNFed. Now I’m wondering if it was just my mood. I’m happy that you enjoyed it so much though. It did sound like it was fun and had a cute story overall.
Lovely review, Christy! 🙂
Really? It actually really surprises me you DNFed it. It seems like a book you’d like.
Huge fan of competitive couples in a romance book setting. Might want to check out this author in the future, too. 🙂
This sounds like it has so many great elements going for it…I need to consider adding this to my too long wishlist!
Oh man I’ve only read one book by Lemmon so far but it rocked my socks off. I so need this book in my life. I love anything set in a spooky mansion, even if it’s only for a little bit. This sounds like a fun one!
Flat out fun works for me!
I read Bringing Home the Bad Boy and loved it but haven’t read anything else by her. I really need to, I know I will love them all as much as you have.
Rescuing the Bad Boy is the 2nd book – after BHtBB – it’s the one on sale today.
You have me curious about this romance. It sounds like a fun and cute book. THEN you have to tell me that one of her books is on sale! My pocket book doesn’t like you. 😉 I so need to read this author!
I love Jessica’s lemons. Sigh. Happy feels
This sounds good – I love banter and teasing between a couple in a book. Haven’t read anything by her before but this sounds fun and quick – Great review!
I haven’t read anything by Lemmon so far, but this book seems a good way to start. Thanks for sharing, Christy! 🙂
I met Jessica and she is so incredibly swanky (if a person can be called that, she would be!) She’s friendly and you know you want to go party or drink wine with her (or both!). I still need to read her first bad boy book (grrrrr, I’m so behind!) and I was waiting to see what you thought about this one – it sounded kind of cheesy but I’m so glad she made it FUN!!! I will try it!
BTW – I’m pissed I’m a day late for the sale on her second bad boy… that’ll teach me for not trolling yesterday!!!! 😛
she gives good happy sighs. I’ve enjoyed all of the ones I’ve tried. Still have a few to go 🙂
The self assured man trying to win her over sounds like a theme that I could enjoy
Bets with competitive co-workers can become fun reads! I’m glad to see you enjoyed this one!
I haven’t read this author. I’m glad you enjoyed!
Nothing sexier than a self-assured man! 🙂 Happy this gave you good feels.
I love an out of the ordinary romance Christy, and this one sounds adorable! I don’t know about the bet of staying in the creepy ‘haunted’ house, I can’t imagine anyone under the age of 12 betting someone else to do that, but the dynamic between the two sounds incredible. I love banter and tension between characters and this sounds incredibly witty too. Awesome review Christy, so glad you enjoyed this one <3
I liked this one too. I agree it was fun. I didn’t love it, but I did really enjoy it.
Great review christy
