The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
I’m back from a much needed vacation, but left again for a couple days. I should be around more after this weekend. Maybe. I did get some good reading in, though. I ended up reading a total of 10 books/audiobooks in June.
My son is taking sign language in summer school and I’m trying to learn it from him and his book. It’s pretty cool!
On the Blog
- My Top Reads of 2015 (so far) – It was actually an easy list to make.
- Jesse’s Girl by Miranda Kenneally (Review) – What do you think? Of course I loved it.
- Chasing River by K.A. Tucker (Review) – There’s a sexy Irish guy. Enough said.

For Review:
I’m so excited for The Drafter, but kind of nervous for a new series from Kim Harrison.
Purchased:
I love when books on my wishlist have price drops. All three books in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy were $1.99! I grabbed the 2nd and 3rd audiobook in the series after listening to Succubus Blues.
ย Have a great week!
I loved Succubus Blues and the entire series. So good! Loved Snow Like Ashes and the sequel as well. I finally need to read something by Karina Halle.
I really liked Succubus Blues. Oh man, YES, you definitely need to read some Halle. Read Racing the Sun when it comes out!
Karina Halle will be at that big signing in SF August 8th and I’m trying to figure out which book I want to get and take there to have signed and I want to get one for a friend for a present. Between Sins and Needles, Love In English, Where Sea Meets Sky or Racing the Sun which of all those do you think I would most like? lol
Aw, lucky girl! S&N is way different than the other three. LiE, WSMS, and RtS are all loosely connected through certain characters, but it’s really not a big deal to read in any order. And that’s coming from someone who’s OCD about that. I would suggest Racing the Sun if you had to pick from those four. LiE holds a special place in my heart, but seriously, RtS is really freaking good! You’ll love it.
I’m most excited about you picking up the Succubus Blues series! That is one of my favourite urban fantasies, even though it’s quite an old one now. Seth is such a lovely and understanding guy, and I love that he’s a beta. Have a lovely week Christy!
I like starting the older series that already have lots of books or are finished. Means I can read the series as slow or fast as I want.
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! I LOVE John Sandford…. *runs off to look up new release info*
Deb
Oooo now I’m really excited. I’ve never read anything by Sandford, but this book sounds good.
I’ve always liked the covers of the Daughter of smoke and bone books but the books themselves weren’t my thing when I read the first one. Hope you enjoy all your booky treats!
Yeah, I hope I like them since I bought all three.
6 out of 8 hits = reading success! Nice finds on the specials too. Have a great week Christy.
I would love to learn sign language – I learned a little when my kids were younger. Oh Racing the Sun – Can’t wait to hear what you think! Enjoy all your new books!
Sign language is great to teach kids, they can start at like 6 months old I believe, and communicate even though they can’t verbalize. I wish I had known when my son was born. Ohhh I loved Racing the Sun!
Oh my, somebody loaded up for the coming weeks!! Yeah baby. I actually have the ARC of Half a King sitting on my shelf b/c it sounded so good – I really want to read it but I have a hard time picking up my physical copies.
Summer is so slow. I feel like I’m just filling in what I’m doing on my Sunday Post. What else am I going to put? “Sat on my ass all week”? Yeah, I’m a lazy git ๐
BTW – I’d say you’re back, you’re just on a summer posting schedule – 2-3 times a week. Hobby, remember that. *hugs*
You could grab Half King for kindle since it’s cheap right now. I guess the 2nd book is near.
I was going to post about what I did and maybe share pictures, but I’m lazy about that stuff. lol
Two posts a week is my full-time now. That’s how I roll. ๐
Yay! Glad you’re back too. Jealous that you got to read so much. Sigh. I have to check out that new Kim Harrison series. I totally missed out on her other series.
Have a great week!
This series is supposed to be really different than her other one. More sci-fi instead of UF.
I really enjoyed BURN FOR ME too. It made me want to read more by this author team.
It’s a bummer the 2nd book has been pushed back, but I’m still excited for it.
Welcome back! I’m glad you liked Jesse’s Girl and Chasing River. I can’t wait to see what you thought of Chaos. I’ve requested that one but haven’t heard back on it yet. Have a great week!
Sandy @ Somewhere Only We Know
I really liked Chaos. I was looking forward to Shawn’s book since the beginning.
Welcome back ๐ Hope u enjoyed your vacation! I always wanted to learn sign language:) just got all the DoSaB books thanks for the tip! How is the succubus series?
Thanks! I’ve only listened to Succubus Blues, but I can already tell I’ll love the series. Besides, it’s only 6 books, so it wont be hard to get through.
I just got back from vacation/blogging break as well. My head is swimming with ideas! I really, really want to do a vacation recap because I visited this amazing bookstore AND I got some awesome pictures to share.
Welcome back!
Welcome back!!
Sign language is awesome and I love that it counts as a second language in school now.
Good luck with it, it is such a great thing to know.
I intend to read John Sandford for the first time very soon ! A coworker/friend of mine knows how to sign, her cousins are deaf and she’s fluent, which is helpful with some readers of ours ๐
This will be my first Sandford book, and I’m looking forward to it. My son is picking ASL up super quick and easy, but I’m a little slower since I’m not actually in the classroom.
All the bright places was SO GOOD!! I hope you enjoy it. It is one of my favorite books of the year. Be prepared with lots of tissues. ๐
I enjoyed the first couple Succubus Blues books but then I lost interest. I hope you enjoy them.
Yay! Loads of good books there, I hope you enjoy Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I haven’t read the other two yet but I loved it.
Have a wonderful week!
I want to learn ASL too! I don’t know anybody who signs but it’s cool to know it. it might be valuable one of these days.
It’s really cool to know. I have a couple friends who took all 4 years of it in college, but they never really used it and now don’t remember a lot.
I really want to read All the Bright Places. I enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the rest a lot, so I hope you do too.
I think All the Bright Places is still on sale! ๐
I got really excited when I saw that All the Bright Places was on sale…then realized I already own it (and read it). I do this a lot actually. I know I own them but I get so happy to see the price I just forget and want to buy it.
I hope you had a good break! I’ve been thinking about taking one, but everytime I think I might I end up putting up another week’s worth of posts.
Hahaha I do that too! I can’t wait to read it.
If you have posts, just schedule them for another week and take one off. Relax. Then you’ll have posts already done for when you’re break is over.
I own a copy of Succubus Blues and I haven’t read it yet, I loved Richelle Mead’s other two series so here’s to hoping ๐ You read a lot last week!
Succubus Blues was my first Mead book. I’m sure I’ll read more after this series though.
Sign language… that is cool! Enjoy learning it!
A few good reads there… Karina Halle, Jessica Lemmon… Enjoy girl!
I am looking at the calendar and realizing my vacation is fast approaching and I still have a butt load of stuff to do. I am glad you got some nice relaxing time in on your vacation and some reading down, I am hoping to do the same, but I Am not holding my breath.
Ooo yay on yall learning sign language. That’s so neat!
Welcome back from vacation! I think sign language sounds like it would be fun to learn! Out of your books read list, I see three that I loved as well; Chasing River, Jesse’s Girl, and Chaos! Congrats on the Smoke & Bone sale! Happy Reading ๐
Nice haul this week I hope you enjoy them.
10 books this month, nice going. I need to pick up my game and read a bit more too.
Enjoy your week.
I am reading Chasing River right now. I have Burn for Me but keep putting it off. I hate when Andrew’s books end, so the longer I take to read them, the farther the way the ending. ๐
I took a sign language class. LOVED it! Have fun.
It’s probably good you haven’t read it yet. They pushed the date for the 2nd book back to 2016, so … yeah. ๐
Of course I learned all the dirty words first. lol
Ohhh I’ve always wanted to learn sign language, in case I might need it one day.
