For Donovan Pate, the lake town of Evergreen Cove is a minefield of tough memories—including the day he had to let go of Sofie Martin. Years later, he still can’t forget the taste of her lips and the feel of her killer curves. He knows he’s too damaged, that he should stay away for her own good. But what the head says and the heart wants are two very different things…

Seven years ago, Donovan broke Sofie’s heart. Now her career depends on playing nice in order to pull off the charity fundraiser of the decade. She vows to keep things professional…yet working by his side every day doesn’t make it easy to fight temptation, and it isn’t long before she finds herself falling for this bad boy all over again. But loving Donovan means helping him face his past–so they can fight for a future together.

I’ve been setting a lot of books aside lately, because I’m just not feeling them. All of these books have been in the contemporary genre, so I guess you can say I’m a bit burned out on it. However, I’m still happy to read the ones I’m confident the author will deliver something good. Rescuing the Bad Boy falls in that category. I read Bringing Home the Bad Boy a few months ago and absolutely adored it! So I knew Jessica Lemmon wasn’t going to let me down.

We met Sofie in the first book, but only heard about Donovan and his bad boy ways. Don’t let the term “boy” fool you, though; Donny is very much a man in his early thirties. These two knew each other when they were younger and had an intimate incident that didn’t end well. At all. Fast forward seven years and Donovan is back, but he has no intentions to stay in a place that has such bad memories for him.

To be honest, I wasn’t too sure about Sofie in the beginning. However, I eventually found her to be a quite likeable. She’s the really sweet and caring type, which is exactly what Donovan needed, but she also has some feistiness to her that made it really fun between them. And Donovan, despite his super jerk of a move in the beginning, I really liked him too. His grouchiness was actually kind of funny, especially when it came to the other guys.

Lemmon does a great job when it comes to chemistry between the characters. It’s something you can just feel right from the start with Sofie and Donovan. Okay, okay … so the book does start off on the steamy side, but still. They had me swooning, laughing, and rooting for them the whole time.

I’m a total sucker for good friendships, even more so when it turns into a group of friends. So that’s something I love about this series, and this book in particular. The characters overlap and are really integrated in each others lives. Donovan and Connor are definitely my favorites and made me chuckle the most, though.

Also! I didn’t realize that this series is a spin-off of the Love in the Balance series! Now I for sure need to read them and get the full story for all of those characters.

Anyway, Rescuing the Bad Boy was a total delight! I’m looking forward to Connor’s story next, but can we please get an Asher book? Pleeease?

  1. I’m curious us this set in a dual perspective? I think this would be such a great book if it was and I’m all for that. Donnie sounds like such a swell guy and one I would really love to get to know. I love that we see him from the previous book and grow. I love that. Great review, Christy! 🙂

  2. If you liked this then I know I will as well! I loved the first book but I still haven’t written a review for it. I fail lately in the review department.
Glad this was such a good second book even if you weren’t sure about Sophie in the beginning.

Oh good, I’m glad you loved the first book! Haha – yeah, I fail in all the departments lately. 😀

  3. I’ve been restless book-wise as well. Maybe it’s all the craziness of summer starting and school ending? This does sound good and this is a new author for me. I love 2nd chances and friends to more. Throw in the humor and this sounds like a perfect book for me.

Don’t let the bad boy title fool you. These are actually wonderful men in their early 30’s, especially Evan from the first book.

  4. I want Asher’s story too! He needs to realize how awesome Glo is! I agree that Donavan’s grumpiness was pretty funny! I enjoyed the group of friends dynamic in this story, as well as the steaminess. I need to read the Love in the Balance Series! Meeting a few of the characters from that series has piqued my interest! Lovely Review Christy 🙂

  5. Eeek! I am so glad this one was good for you, even though you aren’t feeling the genre here lately. I read BHtBB early May and have been waiting for this to come out. I can’t wait to dig in to this! I didn’t know this was a spin-off series, thanks for letting me know. I did purchase book 1 of that series when I realized how awesome book 1 of THIS SERIES was so awesome. I so gotta get around to reading that one now, too. Never ending TBR is getting longer and longer. 😛
