After eviction from the Knights of Merciful Aid, Andrea is a wreck. She starts work for best pal PI Kate Daniels. Her feelings for him may take a back seat to saving the world…
I have to thank Kimberly for sending this and forcing me to experience the amazing audio. I’ve never been much of an audiobook person, but I was completely hooked by this narrator. Renee Raudman truly became the characters, while being clear and concise. The only thing I didn’t like about listening to the audio instead of reading is, I couldn’t highlight passages and quotes like I usually do. But the experience was well worth it.
Give me more boudas! I know everyone reads these types of books and picks out which shifters/clan/group/whatever they’d fit into. Don’t lie. Well, the bouda clan would be mine.
Andrea has become just as important of a character to me as Kate has. I would seriously devour an entire series with her as the main character, so no way in hell am I going to skip any of these side books featuring her. Gunmetal Magic isn’t just some novella, though. It’s a full-length novel that incorporates perfectly into the series.
Holy crap, the growth Andrea goes through in this book made my heart soar. She is such a freaking badass! I’m so extremely happy that she finally came to terms with herself and what she is. And did she ever do it with a bang! View Spoiler » I get so excited every time I think about it!
Ah, Andrea and Raphael were killing me, though! There is a part in the beginning where I wanted to lunge over the desk for Andrea. But hooray for murder forcing them to work together! They’re fighting and challenges were absolutely delicious. And haha … oh, did it get hilarious.
I love that Ascanio has become a prominent character. He’s going to be one hell of a force with all the training he’s getting from Kate and Andrea. Yeah, and Ascanio and Julie aren’t fooling me. I have my eyes those two …
I know I tend to yammer on about the characters more than anything, but the entire plot of Gunmetal Magic rocked. Sometimes while I’m reading/listening to this series, it’ll hit me how smart Ilona Andrews writes. They weave some amazing plots in each book, while enhancing the overall story arc. It truly is impressive.
You guys! I loved Gunmetal Magic so damn much! Whatever you do, don’t skip this book.
Have a listen
I do intend to read this series this year !
I love this series. Andrea is a great character was definitely strong enough for her own book. Great review.
Yes to your spoiler. I write quotes down from the audio as I listen. I cannot help myself. I am so glad you loved the audio 🙂
I NEED TO READ THIS CHRISTY. I’m going to make a point to get caught up on Kate and Andrea soon, I know I’m missing out on much awesomeness. Can’t wait to dive back into this world:)
This sounds amazing! I love how the novellas in this series are as good as the actual novels. And the character growth sounds amazing.
Great review, Christy!
I’m not really one for audiobooks either. I can never really connect with the narrator but I’m glad this one worked for you. I have always wanted to try Iona Andrews and I think years ago I probably did! But I think I need to get back into fantasy writing and writers. Thanks for putting this on my radar.
I still haven’t read anything by Iona Andrews, although I know I need to give her stuffa chance since everyone loves her and her books. Audiobooks aren’t for me either, I can never get into them so i’ll have to pick up a hardcover copy of one of her books. Great Review Christy! Glad you enjoyed this one and all the character growth!
I like to highlight quotes too when I read and find that a problem with audiobooks, but I try to take notes as I go along. Awesome review, Christy!
I told you this was fabulous! Andrea really is a strong characters and I really didn’t love love her until reading this. I liked her don’t get me wrong but this brought out so much more in her and it was amazing! Like you said, this isn’t one to miss because she is every bit as strong as Kate is.
Kimberly really does recommend some pretty awesome books, huh?? When I read this series, I read it way too fast! Didn’t even review them or take notes. I need to re-read in a big way, especially since I want to read the newest book that came out!
I would have skipped this thinking it was just a short novella. I will be sure to read it when I get that far. I have only read the first one. I need more time in the day to read.
Don’t skip the novellas, especially the ones with Andrea. They all add to the story in some way and certain things and characters are referenced.
This sounds awesome! I definitely won’t skip it 🙂 And now I think I must do it on audio. Lovely review Christy!
I haven’t read the Kate books yet but I read this one and really liked it a lot. I need to go back and read the series from the very beginning. I might do it on audio. 🙂
Oh I’m in the middle of this one right now and I agree… I am really enjoying it!
Hells yeah for Gunmetal!!! I love Andrea. In the beginning, I was like “Andrea, get your shit together!” She finally made the right choices and I love her and Raphael together. Hilarious!!!!!
if you liked it this much, that means this book really good 🙂 I will add it to my TBR, Lovely Review
I really loved this book, it was so much fun to follow Andrea there, she is a great character too! I wonde if we’ll have again a full book about someone else than Kate.
Yes, yes! Renee Raudman can turn the most skeptic into an audiobook lover!
Great review girl, I loved Andrea here, she definitely carried her own book.
Yay! I am glad you loved this slight spinoff! I loved Andrea too, and I can see you hanging with the clan *wink* It was great to see more of Ascanio, I totally agree.
Now, i have to read the next book. This is about where I stopped. Going to hunt them at the library!
I loved this too, and I agree 100%: do not skip this book. The Andrews are just so awesome at finding bizarre, lesser known myths and molding and shaping them into excellent UF. LOVE it.
