Love is a circus
The best aerial technique won’t land 21-year-old Thora James her dream role in Amour—a sexy new acrobatic show on the Vegas strip. Thora knows she’s out of her element the second she meets Amour’s leading performer. Confident, charming and devilishly captivating, 26-year-old Nikolai Kotova lives up to his nickname as the “God of Russia.”
When Thora unknowingly walks into the crosshairs of Nikolai’s after-show, her audition process begins way too soon. Unprofessional. That’s what Nik calls their “non-existent” relationship. It’s not like Thora can avoid him. For one, they may be partners in the future--acrobatic partners, that is. But getting closer to Nik means diving deeper into sin city and into his dizzying world.
Thora wants to perform with him, but when someone like Nikolai attracts the spotlight wherever he goes — Thora fears that she’s destined to be just background to his spellbinding show.
Krista and Becca Ritchie are on fire! I have so much love for their Addicted series, so I was super excited to read Amour Amour. When I saw that it would be a standalone, I was bummed before I even read it because I knew I would want more. Need more. And I was right, because I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get enough of their writing.
Amour Amour is aptly titled. It isn’t just the name of the circus show, it describes the overall theme of the book. Yes there’s a romantic love, but there’s also the love of family and friends, and most importantly, the love of a dream and going for it. There’s so much beauty to it.
I love the whole Las Vegas atmosphere. The majority of it took place around the hotel the circus is at, and the authors did a phenomenal job at “taking me there” and making me feel like I was part of these characters lives. I felt so invested in Thora’s journey and loved experiencing everything with her.
The Ritches know how to write family dynamics exceptionally well, especially when it comes to siblings. I adore the Kotova family so much! All those crazy Russian brothers and cousins, and of course Katya, the lone sister. You seriously have to meet them. And John! I can’t forget him. He isn’t part of the family, but oh my gosh, he pessimistic attitude is so funny and just too damn loveable.
Before I started the book I kept seeing Nikolai referred to as being very alpha, and I admit, I was a bit worried about that. All too often the whole ‘alpha male’ thing is overdone and the character just ends up pissing me off. That’s not the case with Nikolai. He is the healthy type of alpha. He’s protective over those he cares about, and exudes dominance and power. With Thora, he pushes her to follow her dream and to put herself and her dreams first, especially before a man. He’s supportive and has confidence in the person he loves, never tries to hold her back. Just like a real man should. So yes, Nikolia is a very hot Russian alpha man, but the best kind there is.
Amour Amour is absolutely another homerun for Krista and Becca. I love it so much! Honestly, this would be an amazing movie, or even a TV show. I’d totally watch it!
sound like a great book to me, i have never read anything by this author maybe i will start with this one 🙂 lovely review
I can’t wait to read this Christy! I’ve been wanting to read these two authors for a while, I’ve heard such amazing things about them. I adore alpha men in fiction, so I’m pretty much already in love with Nikolai. Glad he’s the “healthy” alpha type:)
I love the new look!! Very nice. 😉
Okay, I was already going to read this but you have me totally convinced now! I am trying to finish up two more ARCs and then I will get to this. 🙂
I’ve been reading a lot of fantastic things about this author duo lately, makes me wonder why it has taken so long for them and I to cross paths. And, it seems like this story has everything going for it. I shall go forth and one-click!
Eeeep Christy! Your review gave me the feels all over again. Our thoughts on this one was are pretty similar and I’m just so glad this one was a winner with you too! About the whole Alpha make thing..your so right. He was the perfect kind of alpha male and I just loved how he pushed Thora to follow HER dreams and put them above everything and everyone else–even him. 🙂 great review!
I do love “love” books like this. It’s great when it’s not just about romance but when the author successfully illustrates all the relationships the characters have and shows its depth. And the circus in Vegas? Oh joy!
P.S. Love the makeover
I’m so happy you loved this, Christy. I feel like KB can do absolutely no wrong! 😀
I wanted more of the secondary characters by the end, especially Timo and John and I would love if their book became a reality!
Lovely review! 🙂
I like your bright happy new look on the blog. I have been seeing this book around and I am convinced I need to try it. Happy New Year!
I’m a sucker for hot Russkies. So heck yes! Where do I sign?
Ok I am curious..you always do this to me. Is this YA or NA.
NA. She’s 20 … 21 … something like that. And he’s 25 or 26. I forget. But these ladies do NA right.
Well, my wait will be finally over b/c the first book in the Addicted series, Addicted to You, is coming out next week on audio YAY! So there!..lol
I added it to my watch list when you first mentioned.
Thanks Christy…I guess this will probably be on my list too.
That makes me happy!! I hope it has a good narrator.
You know I love these authors but for some reason this book didn’t call to me. I keep reading so-so reviews on it, which scares me. But with you loving it, now I feel conflicted.
Oh, and I never said how much I love the new look!
That’s it! I need to read something of theirs this year. I’m hoping more of their books will be available on audio. Great review!
This book and Addicted series are also on my tbr-list. Can’t wait to finally read them!:)
I haven’t completed the Addicted series yet. But from what I’ve read and heard about it was so good. Amour Amour sounds amazing ever since its been on release. So I must read this very soon. Great review! 🙂
This sounds good! I like the sound of the setting and theme a lot.
I really enjoyed this too Christy but I was a little iffy about the romance, I adored John & Timo more 😉
A fabulous review! I’m super excited to start on their Addicted series now after reading this.
Ooh Nikolai sounds like my kind of guy. I hate when alphas piss me off but he sounds perfect! I keep seeing the Ritchie’s books on all my favorite blogs, I think it’s finally time to catch up on their Addicted series and read this one too!
Nikolai makes me want to read this, as does the circus theme. Everything really! Sounds amazing!
I have NEVER heard f this tag team, but you sound so enthusiastic when you talk about them, I am curious! This book looks awesome, and very new to me. I am adding it to goodreads TBR – NOW!
Glad you enjoyed it Christy! I was so excited for this book, but then my close friend who is a huge fan of these authors didn’t like it and now I’m pretty hesitant to read it, because we usually have the same opinion about the books we read <./
Damn… now I have to read this one too. I need to finish the Addicted series first! This sounds wonderful… which is what I expect from this fabulous writing duo!
