Drafted into working for the Order of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems than she knows what to do with these days. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that’s saying a lot.
But when Kate's werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games—an invitation only, no holds barred, ultimate preternatural fighting tournament—she and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta's shapeshifting community…
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! Yeah, okay, so the first two books were winners too. But Magic Strikes is for sure my favorite of the series. So far, anyway. I might spontaneously combust from sheer delight if they continue to increase in awesomeness!
Here are the things I loved the most:
♥ This book picks up two months later and Kate is doing her thing for the Order. I really like how the books jump in time, spanning months from each other.
♥ In the previous books we got some insight to Kate’s past and where her magic comes from. This time, we get a lot more – where she comes from, what it means, and just how powerful she really is. I love how each book is building up to something big, so that the overall story arc is woven in with each book and their individual plots.
♥ In Magic Burns, all the action wore on me a little, but I loved it in this one. The way it’s setup is exciting and done extremely well!
♥ The things Kate said and thought often caused me to pause in my reading because I needed to laugh. There were several passages I couldn’t resist rereading because they were so damn funny.
♥ I get the biggest kick out of Kate and Curran! I’ve enjoyed their little dance from the beginning, and it just gets better and better. I love a good power struggle between two dominants who have feelings for each other. The chemistry is absolutely delicious!
♥ The secondary characters are positively superb! I can’t even tell you how happy the development of Kate and Andrea’s friendship makes me – two strong woman who are loyal and trust each other with their secrets. It also makes me smile every time Kate refers to Julie as ‘her kid’, and you know not to mess with her. Oh hell, I love the entire close circle of friends Kate has accumulated!
I honestly can’t think of one negative thing to say about Magic Strikes. This series is an absolute must read!

I’m on the 4th book, but haven’t started it yet. Grr.

God job! I’m glad you are loving them 🙂
LOL – That’s what I’m waiting for with the Rachel Morgan series. Hopefully in a couple years it’ll be all new to me. 😀
Yup, this is my fav of the series as well. I gave it 6 stars. There is one more that got 6 stars from me, so you will be a happy camper.
Is this book not epic? The fighting was so effing well done. And Kate and Curran are so freaking hilarious. I love how they dance around everything but are so real at the same time.
I could easily read a book about every side character in this series.
I love the whole arena fighting they did in teams.
Yep, I was actually excited to read Andrea’s novella that came after this book.
You’d better get used to saying “this was my favourite installment” in your reviews of this series because you’ll continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Hehe! Kate & Curran FOREVAH!!! ♥
I’m totally cool with that! 😀
Ha! I didn’t love this series until book three so I totally get where you are coming from. Don’t get me wrong I liked it but I didn’t love it until this one. I am so excited for you to read the others. I still have the last two to read, maybe I should start them at the same time then we can talk about the awesomeness that is Kate and Curran together.
Yes, lets! Hopefully I’ll get to start the 4th book soon.
Yay! Let me know when you start book five and I will start it as well. 😉
YAY CHRISTY!!!!! This was my favorite installment too (at least through book 4 which is where I stopped and got distracted by other things). I just loved the tension between Kate and Curran in this one, it made me happy:) I really enjoyed the 4th book as well, so I can’t wait to see what you think!
Gahh! I need to start this series, Christy. I absolutely loved Burn For Me by Illona Andrews and I have no doubt this will be a winner of a series for me as well. The chemistry between Kate and Curran sounds awesome.
