Successful, wealthy and absurdly handsome – Spanish ex-football player Mateo Casalles seemed like he had it all. A high-society wife, an adorable little girl, and flashy apartments in Madrid and Barcelona only sweetened the deal. But there was more to Mateo than met the eye – a life of uncertainty and regret that colored his black and white world.
That was until Vera Miles came into his life like a shooting star. Tattooed, wild and young, Vera seemed like Mateo’s polar opposite at first. But you can’t choose who you fall in love with and the two lost souls did everything they could to be together, all while suffering the grave consequences.
Now with Mateo divorced and living in Madrid with Vera, there is a whole new set of challenges and setbacks facing the couple and rocking the foundation of their star-crossed relationship.
Unfortunately for them, the brighter the star, the faster they burn.
Karina Halle … yeah, this woman can write! Love, in English left me an emotional mess, and I loved every moment of it. It even became one of my favorite books. So it would be quite the understatement to say I was excited for Love, in Spanish.
Love, in Spanish is the companion to LIE and is told from Mateo’s POV, but doesn’t just rehash old material. LIS is all new, continuing Mateo and Vera’s story. And oh boy, was it good!
It isn’t exactly smooth sailing for them. It broke my heart that they had to deal with the crap they did, and having their relationship threatened. But the way they fight for each other … sigh. I love how passionate Mateo is, how deeply he loves.
I swear, these two make my heart hurt in the best way. Karina captured something beautiful with Mateo and Vera. They’re so genuine, and believe me, very realistic.
Love, in Spanish is a fantastic follow up to LIE that makes me want to twirl around in happiness. And if you know me, I don’t twirl and I detest happiness. Kidding. Mostly. Seriously, if you’ve read Love, in English, then you do not want to miss out on this book.
Damn you always adding to my TBR pile! *sigh* another series I must read. I need to meet Mateo! I think I bought the first book because of you but I need to check!
I loved both of these as well! And I agree with everything you wrote in your review 🙂 Have you read her Experiment in Terror series? The relationship in that book is wonderful, and actually really different. It’s one of my all time favorite series. If you have read it, then you already know 🙂
sound like a great book ,, glad you liked it 🙂
I just recently bought Love, in English…so I need to read that soon. I’m glad this one was just as wonderful!
I need to read this series. I love Karina but just never got around to reading the first book.
If it left you an emotional mess, I know it will leave me wrecked haha
Great review Christy!
Well clearly I need to binge read these two Christy! I haven’t read anything by Karina Halle but this series seems like a good place to start. I really want to meet Mateo:)
I have never read anything by Karina Halle, although she’s a name that I see almost everywhere. This sounds like it was a great companion level. And Matteo sounds swoony! I’ll have to meet him! 🙂
Lovely review!
Glad you enjoyed this Christy! My closest friends unfortunately didn’t love it like you did. They said that there was too much drama and that it was cheesy, so I’m hesitant to read it :(.
It sounds like I really need to read LIE! You definitely sold me!
I don’t think this is the series of hers for me but dang you reminded me I still need to read the last of her other series which I freaking love. I can’t believe I forgot!
You twirling in happiness> Now that is something I would like to see.
Wow! I think you sold both books to me! This sounds good even though I hate to cry, but for some reason emotional mess just appeals. Will have to check out both books!
I love seeing you so happy after reading a book..lol I’ve read a few of her books and enjoyed them. This sounds good, but I need to read book one.
From what I’ve managed to skim of LIE, Mateo and Vera were both equally insane, I mean, intense. These books terrify me, to be honest. Give me gore anytime of the day rather than heart-on-a-blender angst. Eeeek.
I have heard good things about this series and glad to hear you enjoyed it too, Christy!
Wasn’t this one just as good as the first one , Christy?
I loved this sequel and reading from Mateo’s POV. I love how deeply he loves too and just how much he cares for both V and his daughter. It’s heartbreaking.
This one is just not hitting me. But your saying the other book is one of your favs. So conflicted!!!
