Down in Atlanta, tempers – and temperatures – are about to flare…
As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels has seen her share of occupational hazards. Normally, waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. Now Kate’s going to have to deal with problems on a much bigger scale: a divine one.
When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shapeshifters, she quickly realizes much more at stake. During a flare, gods and goddesses can manifest – and battle for power. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug-of-war between two gods hoping for rebirth. And if Kate can’t stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive…
When I started reading Magic Bites, a lot of people told me that it’s good, but the second book is great. I ended up loving Magic Bites; we just clicked. So when I started Magic Burns, I expected to be blown even more away with awesomeness. Here’s the thing, even though I love this book, I love Magic Bites a smidgen more. I honestly can’t point out exactly why, though. Maybe I’m just an odd duck. But believe me, I still love Magic Burns. A lot.
This book is action packed! Kate kicks some serious ass, and I enjoyed seeing how she measured up to the various creatures. We also get more insight to her background and abilities, which are really exciting. I can’t wait to see how this progresses in the next book.
I am seriously loving Kate and all the other characters. She can be such a smartass, and I love it! Sometimes I wish she’d verbalize some of the things she thinks to herself, because it would be funny as hell to see the reactions from the other people. It’s probably best she keeps some things to herself though.
Oh boy, and this little dance her and Curran are doing is delicious! I love some good banter and the whole antagonistic relationship they have. At the same time they’re bonding and getting an understanding of each other. Yeah, I have a feeling things are going to get even more fun in the near future. Whee!
There’s a lot of mythology in Magic Burns that I found it really interesting. Ilona Andrews did a fantastic job weaving it all together and nicely tying everything up.
Seriously, I’m just so damn happy that I’m finally reading this series. It makes me cringe to think about how I could’ve missed out on it.
Kate sounds like a kickass character and wicked funny as well! I’ve been meaning to read this series, I hope to pick it up soon because it’s one of the highly recommended UFs to me. Great review!
After loving Burn for Me so much, I’ve been wanting to read this series. Awesome review! I think this is another series I’ll really enjoy. Kate sounds awesome!
happy to hear you liked this book, I have been wanting to read this series for a while now, lovely review 🙂
I’m so glad you’re finally enjoying this series! It’s my absolute favorite. I adore the combination of action, mythology, great characters and a fabulous sense of humor. Honestly, what’s not to like?
Don’t you feel like your life was not quite complete until this series?? I did. I can see why you liked the first book a bit more. I think I did too, but most people say book 1 was their least favorite which freaks me out. But book 3. OMG. I gave it 6 stars. So fucking amazing!!!!!!!!
Oh such an odd little duck! I don’t think I’ve heard anyone go that route before. Most were okay on one and then fell for the series. I love their little dance too. Gah those two are just a great time 😀
Sounds pretty kickass, and sounds funny, shame you didn’t like it as much as the other one, but love lots of banter! 😉
They definitely get more fun! I love their relationship and witty banter and one liners.
I need to read the last two in the series still but I just finally got to book 5 and loved it too.
I think book three was my favorite…I think if I am remembering right.
I hadn’t heard of this series and in all honesty UF isn’t really my thing but i’m so glad this one worked for you and that you’re enjoying this series 🙂
Yeah I know I am going to kick myself in the ass for not reading this sooner. It is on my New Year’s Audiobook list. I am listening to Burn for Me right now and loving it.
Now see I liked this one way more than book one. I am doing the audios. Both reviews are scheduled for December since I am so booked. I need to slow my reading down. *not* I am loving this series though.
I did like this one more than the first, but no, it wouldn’t have totally blown you out of the water. I do enjoy this series and can’t wait to continue it!
I’m also really happy to see that you’re enjoying this series! I love it and I hope it will continue like that.
This book is GOOD. I need to re-read and review this series! Glad you enjoyed it! Now keep reading! LOL 😉
I did not like MAGIC BITES but people have told me the series is great. I just finished Ilona Andrews’ BURN FOR ME (and I am giving away a copy). Great write up!
Yes! Curran and Kate together are delicious. I am reliving the experience of discovering this series through your reviews, Christy, and I am so glad yo enjoy it! 🙂
I’ve been working on catching up with this series this year and I can tell you that the books just keep getting better! I’m a huge fan now and would list this series as one of my absolute favorites. I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying it as well!
