The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love
Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy, right?
Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…
Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she's shut him down. Completely.
That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It's a good thing Drew knows all about winning.
All’s fair in love and football…Game on.
I don’t know what it was about this book, but I knew I needed to read The Hook Up the moment I saw it. Was it the hot guy on the cover? No, not really. I hadn’t even looked at him all that closely. There was just something pulling me in. Then I read the blurb and was done for. There was no way I wasn’t going to read it.
So after all of the chemistry I felt with this book before even reading it, was it everything I hoped it would be? I’d say it was. Maybe not 100%, but I still loved it. The Hook Up was a lot of fun, but had its share of issues both characters had to work through.
I knew I’d love Anna. She’s a senior in college, but still isn’t sure what she wants to do with her life after graduation. For the time being, she wants to keep life as simple as possible, which means no relationships. No falling in love. Hook ups only with no attachments. Oh, but Drew? Yeah, he wants it all. But he plays by Anna’s rules, in hopes she’ll change her mind and want it all with him too.
Admittedly, I wasn’t too keen on their initial meeting in class, and had some slight doubts about whether I’d like this or not. However, once they really started talking and bantering at a party, I was put at ease.
These two have some great chemistry. It’s always so much better when the reader can actually experience the connection the characters have, instead of the characters just constantly saying it. The author does a wonderful job with this. I also love that Anna is a curvy girl, and that Drew worships those curves. Hot, hot, hot!
Anna has some insecurities though, especially since Drew is the top quarterback in college football. He’s a star, always in the spotlight, and Anna just isn’t comfortable with that much attention. I completely understood where she was coming from, because I don’t know if I could do that. I’m just too private. I was happy with how it all worked out though.
We are in the midst of football season, so it’s a high probability that I’m watching whenever the 49ers are playing. So the football aspect in this book was a lot of fun, especially all the banter and shit talking between the guys on the team. Plus, we get to meet the guys who will be the main characters of the two upcoming books in the series.
If you’re a fan of NA, then you definitely need to give this a go.
The chemistry sounds really good and I am glad you intuition about the book paid off.
You know, I have this book too. But I wasn’t feeling like I HAD to read it. But you’re review is pretty good. I might pick it up sooner than expected. Thanks 🙂
Oh you know me. I’m a sucker for hot QBs. 🙂 Lately, I’ve been making a list of NA books I’d like to read. This one sounds good.
I think I might have this one but I need to check to be sure. I am glad you enjoyed it. I really like this author’s steampunk series so I am not surprised this was so good.
I’m not sure I could date someone who’s in any kind of media spotlight either Christy, I like to live my life largely unnoticed:) I’ve heard so many great things about this book, I’m glad to see you were a fan as well! Really looking forward to meeting Anna and Drew!
I have a copy is this one, but haven’t been in the mood. Since you enjoyed, I’ll give it a go when I’m in a MA mood. Thanks!
I like all the football stuff. I would read this for that aspect. This doesnt’ sound too dramatic either.
Gah! It is on the tbr pile! It drew me in too! I’ve had a couple blogger friends really enjoy it and am gonna get it read at some point 🙂 Gotta love the heroines name 😉
I actually downloaded this book after I read the synopsis too (and okay maybe the hot guy on the cover may have had something to do with it too) but I was planning on saving it for when I’m in more of a NA mood. This one sounds cute and fluffy and like something I’d enjoy Inbetween my high fantasy reads! Love this review Christy 🙂
I am very nervous about these fantasy authors going the NA route. I’m not a big NA reader and have no real grasp of the genre but I do know what I don’t want to find in these books. I’ll give this a try, hopefully she impresses me and wins me over.
Excellent review, I love how that Anna is a curvy girl and Drew loves it – it’s great promoting heroines who don’t look like supermodels all the time! Sounds like it was a really great read with excellent chemistry between the characters.
I have been eyeing this one myself, I am glad to hear the chemistry was there and that you enjoyed it!
I was actually waiting for your review of this!! Done and purchased… Thanks for doing my work for me!!
49’ers? You so need to talk to the Geeky Blogger. Her team! LOL
So glad you enjoyed this one I think I would enjoy it as well. Btw, Go Broncos! 😉
My friend loved it and I confess that I’m really curious to try it as well! Soon! I’m so late with everything…
Yeah, the football season makes me want to read this book. Go Packers!!!
This sounds like a romance that I would love. I’m not a huge football fan but I do find any stories involving sports rather addictive for some reason. I love the sound of the chemistry between Anna and Drew. Great review!
Happy to hear you enjoyed it! I knew I had to read it b/c it was Kristen Callihan (and I love her paranormal romance series!). Definitely loved the chemistry between Drew and Anna. Drew was so a cutie.
I loved how much drew loved Anna’s curves as well. This book just made me happy. I really enjoyed it, and I am glad you did too!
Great review christy
*Sigh* I think I would really enjoy this one… Sports, college, yes please!
