How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.
Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.
Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.
I only recently read The 5th Wave, so I had planned to read The Infinite Sea closer to when the final book would be released. Yeah, that didn’t exactly work out. I just couldn’t resist!
I really enjoyed The 5th Wave, some parts more than others, but I was very curious to see where this book was going to take us. I have to say, while I liked The Infinite Sea, it have some mixed feeling about it.
We continue to get multiple perspectives throughout this book, but I love that we get a lot more of Ringer. Honestly, Ringer was my favorite character from the first book, and her storyline is important to further understanding the aliens and their plans.
We do discover more about what’s going on, and it’s pretty messed up. There are twists and danger that kept me interested. I’m not sure how I feel about where it’s all going, though. I do have some doubts, but I’m definitely intrigued and look forward to seeing how the author pulls it all together.
This is not a romance, and I very much appreciate that the author doesn’t try to force one. Yes, we all love Cassie and Evan, but their relationship is not the focus of what is going on. They are in dire situations, fighting to survive, but their bond is important to the story. I think Yancey did a great job at balancing it out.
I would say that The Infinite Sea was a really good follow-up to the first book, and has me eager to read the final book in the trilogy.
I have this on my reading list for the weekend and cannot wait! Woot 🙂
I have yet to read the 5th Wave but I really want to! Sounds like the sequel is really good too 🙂
Oh, dear. I shouldn’t have read your review. Now it’ll be hard to resist Infinite Sea! I recently finished The 5th Wave and I plan to read the 2nd and 3rd book next year but after reading your awesome review, I’m not so sure.
Do I need to read this?!?! Well, let me put it this way… should I read this so I can recommend it to the kidlets in the teen area of the library??? Would boys read this? Kind of curious on that one… Jeez, so many questions this a.m. – sorry!!
Yes, this series should definitely be on that list. Besides, the movie is already in the works for the first book, so get on it!
I have a feeling I’m going to want that romance to happen Christy, but like you said, they have more important things to worry about than getting together, so it makes complete sense that romance would be a focus. Still, I’m a romance girl at heart. Glad you thought this was a solid follow up to the 5th Wave!
Sorry this wasn’t quite as good as the first and made you start questioning things but hey, that might not be a bad thing right? It could mean lots of surprises for book three! Just hopefully those surprises are all good ones and don’t make you want to chuck the book across the room.
My copy finally arrived and now I’m dreading it. Getting to it as soon as I can, but from that I’m guessing Evan’s still alive? I’ve been hearing a lot of disappointment from it, but then again, sometimes the second in a series does dip a bit, so I’m not too worried about the series as a whole. 🙂
LOL best laid plans to spread them out and wait. I so know how that goes. Glad to see you enjoyed it 🙂
I am acually glad to hear the romance doesn’ happen, it isn’t exactly the time for romance when you are in a fight for survival. I am sorry this one was as outstanding as the first, I have it scheduled for review soon and I hope I like it.
I love when the author doesn’t force romance. I’m curious about this direction that didn’t thrill you…
Thanks for the review!
That’s good you thought it was a good follow-up overall. I still need to read the first book, but I have owned it for awhile now!!
I was a bit meh when it comes to The Fifth Wave but I still found it entertaining and well-written, so I am so excited to see what the sequel holds! It sounds like it is just as action-packed and well-written as the first book and that there are some more shocking developments and character growths. I’m glad we get more of Ringer too, because she was so awesome in the first book! Thanks for sharing and, as always, BRILLIANT review! <3
Glad to hear this followed up the first book really well Christy! I haven’t read the first one yet, but at least this one doesn’t have that middle book syndrome. Great review lovely!
I can’t wait to get this one! I had a choice between a pre-order for this and Anne Rice’s new Vampire Chronicles and I picked Anne Rice…i dont’ regret it…but I do regret not having enough money for both, lol!
Great Review, i have yet to read the first book but i know the serie is actully good 😀
