Jazz Dent has been shot and left to die in New York City. His girlfriend Connie is in the clutches of Jazz's serial killer father, Billy. And his best friend Howie is bleeding to death on the floor of Jazz's own home in tiny Lobo's Nod. Somehow, these three must rise above the horrors their lives have become and find a way to come together in pursuit of Billy. But then Jazz crosses a line he's never crossed before, and soon the entire country is wondering: "Like father, like son?" Who is the true monster?

The chase is on, and beyond Billy there lurks something much, much worse. Prepare to meet...the Crow King.

Blood of My Blood, is the final book in the Jasper Dent trilogy. I loved the first two books, so of course I felt some apprehension going into this one. What if it ended with a total flop? There was no need to worry, Barry Lyga pulled plenty of punches and made it one crazy finale.

With the massive cliffhanger of Game, I was beyond eager to jump into Blood of My Blood. The first chapter contains three sentences, and those three sentences gave me the biggest grin. We are immediately thrust back into danger that Jasper, Connie, and my beloved Howie found themselves in.

It all comes down to this, Jasper facing the monster that raised him and taught him everything he knows. In order to defeat that monster, he may have to become a monster himself. It is a thrilling ride with twists and danger that will keep you on your toes.

Jasper definitely struggled and fought with not only his father, but with himself, as well. He discovers more about his past than he ever wanted to. Believe me, it’s disturbing. Jasper is really a wonderful character – complex and interesting.

Something that I love about this series it the humor in it. This is a serious thriller, but Howie adds a bit of lightness to it. He is the perfect best friend for Jasper, and always had me laughing. The two of them together – just thinking about it makes me chuckle.

This has honestly been one of the best YA series I’ve read, but I definitely think it’s geared more toward older YA and adults. It’s dark and disturbing, but it’s also smart and exciting. I do have to warn that it is graphic, and does include an unsettling subject matter.

  1. It`s good that Lyga wasted no time in diving straight back into where he left off because those sequel cliffes are THE WORST, especially in trilogies. I`m happy that the conclusion did not disappoint, however even though this is one of the best YA series you have ever read, I`m hesitant to give it a whirl on account of the graphic subject matter. Is is straight up violence, or is there rape too? Given this novel’s genre, I’d assume no on the latter, but it’s always better to check!

  2. I still have to read I Hunt Killers when I have the time (I did download it though- so yay, it’s waiting) but it’ll probably end up being one of my favourites too, since it’s definitely more my type of read. 😉

  3. Okay, I desperately want to read this series Christy, but the only thing keeping me from it is the graphic nature of some of the murder scenes. I’ve heard they’re pretty gory, and I don’t handle gore well. *shudders* I love that Howie adds a bit of humor to an otherwise very serious story though, that always helps to keep the horrifying aspects from overwhelming:)

  4. Yeah! So glad this one rocks. I just binge listened to books one an two and even though I have the print ARC
I have to do the audiobook. I can’t wait to see how this one ends and discover what the twists are. This is a genius series!
