Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it's time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?
Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn't come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.
Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she's used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.
Have you read the Charley Davidson series yet? No? Boo hiss! You should be ashamed of yourself! This is one of the best series in existence! I was so excited to read Sixth Grave on the Edge, and it did not disappoint. I just want to write “I love this book” a million times! Fifth Grave Past the Light was my favorite of the series after reading it, but now, Sixth Grave has inched its way above it. Just by a smidgen.
Oh, boy, was Sixth Grave ever a ride! Charley is a busy woman and one of the best multitaskers I know. One reason I love this series so much is there’s always multiple storylines going on. Just by reading the blurb for Sixth Grave you can see there is a lot going on. However, it’s never overwhelming or confusing.
While Charley deals with everything in her crazy life, she learns more and more about her powers and her purpose. I love that she’s gradually figuring out the things she is capable of. I do hope there’s more of a focus on this aspect of her life in the next book though. I have a feeling there will be with the way it ended. On a side note, I need a book bookie so I can start making bets on what going to happen in a book/series. Because the jaw dropper at the end, I knew that was coming since the 4th book! I’d make so much bank.
Anyway, you know what I love about Charley? Well, one out of many things, including her amazing sense of humor. I love how independent she is. Despite having Reyes and his sexy self, she isn’t ALL about him. She loves him and would do anything for him, but she isn’t annoying about it. And I love that he respects her doing her own thing, even if it drives him crazy sometimes. He tolerates her shenanigans quite well. They have the kind of relationship and dynamic that I admire and love.
I think Darynda Jones is the master of secondary characters. Seriously. How can anyone not love them? I mean, hell, Mr. Wong stands in the corner and literally does nothing. Yet, we love him. I got a little giddy at the prospect of actually finding out more about him, though. Also, I’m so happy to see how far Garrett has come since the first book. I’ve always loved him, but the feeling grows with each book. His and Charley’s relationship is one of my favorites, especially when she makes it her mission to annoy him. I could go on and on about all of the great characters, but I won’t. Just know that I love every single one. New and old.
Oh screw it … I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book! I love this book!
Seriously though, Sixth Grave on the Edge proves that the series only gets better with each book. Don’t put this it off any longer!
I was definitely on a stakeout. No idea what Naked Dead Man was on. Considering the fact that he looked about 112, probably blood thinners. Cholesterol medication. And, judging from the state of his manhood, which I couldn’t stop seeing every single time I turned toward him, Viagra. If I were to hashtag that moment, my status would read something like #impressed.

I put a hand over my heart. That guy. “He can be the sweetest thing when he’s not killing demons and shit.”
————-
His brows snapped together. “You didn’t bring any C-4, did you?”
“Javier, you have to let that go. Let bygones be bygones.”
He pulled his sidearm and clicked off the safety. “I’ll show you bygones.”
“Now, now,” Garrett said, wrestling the gun from him. “Charley brings out the worst in all of us. It’s not her fault.”
“He’s right,” I said. “I have a condition.

First Grave on the Right is only $2.99!
Usually, I like my stories focused, but I don’t mind there to be multitasking as long as it’s written exceptionally well. I have no doubt this one delivers because so many of the reviews I’ve seen have been largely positive. I really need to get going with this series!
Darynda does a great job. Even though there are multiple story lines, it’s also really tight a well done.
Okay, okay, calm down. You convinced me. I just bought the first book for my kindle. It was on sale. 🙂
You, my dear, will LOVE this series.
Your before last paragraph totally sums up my feelings for this book in a nutshell. LOL Loved it!
lol – It sums uo my feels for the entire series! 😀
I totally agree! This book was awesome! And it is amazing how each book get better and better 🙂
Great review!
Indeedy-roo! I wonder how long she’ll keep the series going.
So what you’re saying is…you despised this book? 🙂
No. I haven’t read this series yet, but I’m easily swayed. So yeah, I’ll pick up a copy. Sigh.
Absolutely. It horrendous! 😉
*hanging my head in shame* No I haven’t read it (yet) ! But I want to, I do !! OK, OK, I’ll move it up my list, your last paragraph sold it to me lol ! Thanks for sharing (oh, and by the way, I want the same glasses, they’re awesome !)
You shall remain in the corner of shame until you do so. 😛 I know, I love those glasses!
I still haven’t found the time to read it, but from your review it sounds like I might LOVE IT :D! This series are great <3
You will. Oh yes, you will ….
Do you know how many books there are going to be in this series Christy? I really want to get caught up but I know these books are riddled with cliffhangers and I’m just not equipped to handle those without all the books in my hands so I can binge read them. I love that this series just seems to get better as it goes too, with a 6th book inspiring such a glowing review:)
I have no idea. Hopefully A LOT. Honestly, Jenny the cliffhangers aren’t even bad. I don’t even like calling them cliffhangers. I know you’ve read books with worse cliffhangers than these. These just end in a way that leaves you needed the next book, you know?
I’ve only read the first book but I loved it! I really need to catch up!
Yes, you do. And then you’re going to kick yourself for putting them off so long.
You are so right about Jones’ ability to really make the secondary characters come to life and not steal the show but add so much to it you forget they aren’t the main characters sometimes as well. I want to know EVERYTHING about Mr Wong. What is that little man’s secret?
I am so excited for this one. I need to get off my butt and read it already.
You haven’t read it yet? I thought you did! Get on it!
I know this series is amazeballs, aren’t you glad I made you read it? I love the secondary characters as well and Garrett has long been one of my favs and I adore Mr. Wong even though he does nothing. I am so glad book seven is out this fall!
Were you part of the read-along of First Grave? I can’t remember who all did it. Did I help host that one? My memory sucks sometimes. lol. Garrett and Charley crack me up.
hahaha..yes I loved it too!
Indeed.
I have this one on audio and I can’t wait to get to it. Yes, her characters just rock. I wonder… did you love the book? LOL 😉 So love this series too.
lol – Eh, just a little. 😉
Every single review you write of this series makes me want to instantly drop everything! I recently picked up Second Grave on the Left at the bookfest (I know it’s the 2nd book in the series, but hey it’s a start!)
Now you just need the first book and you’ll be good to go! 😀
Hehe, I am glad that you loved this one. It sounds like another great addition to the series. 🙂
Girl, you need to read them!
So much love!! I really adore hearing that books in a series are getting better and better for someone. Makes me want to read them even more. And i DO want to read this series. I need to get the first one soon.
You do, you, do, you do! Very soon!
I am so ashamed of myself! I have the first book, I may even have it on audio too. And have I read it? NOPE, but you’re giving me the incentive!
Go stand in the corner and feel the shame! lol. Seriously, Andrea, you’ve got to read this series.
Oh yes I really loved this one as well, it was a really great book, a little rushed compared to the others but it’s always a great pleasure to read each book. Great review!
Hive five for Charley love! 😀
I’m still inching up in the library queue. *pouts* One library system is a much shorter wait than the other though, so WOO-HOO for living on the cusp of two counties!
You will be hounding the library for the rest after you read the first one!
Oh, I’ve read them all! Love this series! I watch the library and as soon as I see the new book listed as ‘On Order’ I hop in the queue. LOL
Oh yeah, I think you told me about the short stories after the 5th book. I knew that! lol.
If you love it then I love it too!
And I deserve that boo hiss, I’m in between books, I need a pleasure read, maybe this will be it
YES! Read them. Read them now!!
I’m right there with you, Christy! I loved this book!!! Fabulous, fun review!
Charley love for the win! 😀
oh god I hadn’t heard of this one *hangs head in shame* Okay since you pretty much shamed me i’ve added this one of my TBR but i’m curous—how long is the series planning to be? It’s already on it’s sixth book!
lol – Good, sometimes a shaming is needed. 😛 I don’t know how long she’s planning to have this series go. Hopefully FOREVER. Seriously, they’re really quick reads. Addicting too.
You sum this up very well. I love this series. I highly recommend that you try it on audio if you are even remotely interested in audiobooks. Lorelei King does a wonderful job with the narration.
I’m now officially ashamed of myself! I will definitely have to start this series to fix this problem!
*hangs head* Yes I’m one of like 2 people who haven’t read it yet. lol I have them on the tbr pile though! I think pretty much everyone I know who has read this has loved it.
I think that you might ‘Love this book’… hahaha!! I think I might have to check the series out, sounds like a fab ride!!
