At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…
There are times when I read a book and fall completely in love, it hits me so deeply that I struggle with whether or not I even want to share my thoughts on it. Part of me wants to yell at the top of my lungs how much the book means to me; I want to make everyone understand why I feel that way. Then at the same time I want to just keep my feelings and love for the book to myself, keep it close and hold it tight. Maybe Someday is one of those books. I’ve bought all of Colleen Hoover’s books, but hadn’t read them. To be honest, I was a little afraid. When I saw Maybe Someday, I knew I wanted to read it without even fully reading the blurb. Once I finally took the plunge, I was knocked on my ass. I was so surprised, it wasn’t nearly what I expected. It was more … so much more. After I finished the book everything still felt so raw, so I went on a writing rampage pouring out everything I was feeling about every aspect of the book. However, that will remain private. This will be maybe a tenth of what I wrote, and much more superficial.
Colleen Hoover took me through so many emotions. I laughed so hard, and I was not expecting that at all. I’m a sucker for humor; it’s a sure way to my heart. I don’t know how Colleen does it, but she has a gift for making a reader feel what the characters are feeling so deeply. The love, the tenderness, the pain, the uncertainty … everything. I wasn’t only laughing out loud while reading, I literally had to stop reading because I started sobbing like an idiot in public. This is definitely a book I needed to read in private.
All of the characters and their different dynamics were great. I liked Sydney a lot, but I so badly want to teach her how to throw a proper punch. I loved when Syd and Ridge worked together, and how honest they were with each other. The feelings through their writing and music was just … wow. The struggle they had with their feelings and emotions was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Ridge – I love this guy! There is something very special about him, especially when it came to making music, that I was completely surprised by. It was such an amazingly wonderful twist that was so well done and added so much more to the story. I also really liked Maggie. I am so happy that Colleen didn’t make her into an evil bitch just for an easy out. I’m not going to get into details, but I think she executed everything perfectly – sometimes there isn’t a bad guy. Then there is Warren and Bridgett. Oh my gosh – hilarious! Warren is what initially made me fall for the book. Like I said, humor does it for me, and this guy brings it in droves. I loved all the pranks and weird, blunt conversations. And Bridgett, haha, now she is a bitch, but it’s so damn entertaining.
Music is another thing that hooks me, and Maybe Someday is full of original musical greatness! The way it’s incorporated is genius. Plus, there is actual music that goes with the book! I love the songs so much, all I’ve been listening to is this playlist. I’m kind of obsessed with the song I’m In Trouble. Okay, maybe a lot obsessed. I’m not even joking, I’ll listen to the songs and they bring forth the feels and emotions all over again. When I listen to Maybe Someday my heart feels like exploding every damn time. And I can’t get enough!
So? Can you tell? I love Maybe Someday! I know it probably comes across as pretty guarded, and that’s because it is. I promise you though, I love this book to pieces! I don’t even want to start reading another book because I never want to leave this one. I just want to put it on an endless loop in my brain because it feels so damn good; it brings a smile to my face every time I think about it. I guess it’s safe to say that I’m now a fan of the amazing Colleen Hoover.
Dang girl..this was on my wish list and now I own it! Fantastic review 🙂
I love it so much.
Hoover is amazing at emotional mind-f**k. Raw doesn’t even begin to cover it. So happy your experience with her was so great. I still need to read this one.
I’m looking forward to read all of her other books now!
I love books with humor too. It really helps me be drawn in if I’m enjoying it! This book sounds awesome and I’m glad you enjoyed it! I loved Colleen’s Hopeless series, so I know how much of an emotional ride she can take you on! Great review Christy!

Humor is my weakness. If someone/something can make me genuinely laugh, then I’m already halfway in love. lol
Heard good things about this book! Hopeless by the same author was free on amazon, so I got that one for my Kindle app (since I can’t buy kindle books ^^). I hope to read Hopeless soon and also this one 🙂
I’ve had Hopeless for quite awhile, but never read it. I’m not hesitating to read it now know what a fantastic writer she is.
Ahh you so tempt! She’s one I’ve been eh about trying. I don’t know why though. I’ve heard so many good things but just haven’t had that urge but dang it’s amazing finding a book like that so you tempt. You really do! I’ve got one sitting in my draft box like that. It’s been there for over a year now. Near done review wise but I just can’t seem to finish it up and post it. One day maybe 🙂
Read it, Anna! Just do it!
Fabulous and heartfelt review Christy. I always know if you are passionate about something then it is a must read. I have heard nothing but good things about this one and had to pick it up.
You definitely have to read this one, Ali.
Lovely review Christy. I listened to Slammed last year, so I’m already familiar with the author’s capacity to create great characters and compelling stories, but sounds like she knocked out of the park with this one.
I know I’ll be listening to this one soon!
Thanks!
I was so hesitant to read any of her books, but no more. Not after experiencing her awesomeness. 😀
Awwwww… such a stellar review <3
Girl, you need to read the other books of hers! Just wait until your "hangover" with goes away 😀 I LOVE Colleen Hoover, too!
I am so excited to read them now!
The reviews for this one seem to be all over the map which has me INSANELY curious. I like when the opinions are hugely varied, it makes me want to run and pick the book up to see which camp I’ll fall in. So glad you loved this one Christy, I’ve definitely read books like it that had me both wanting to tell everyone about it and needing to keep my thoughts to myself so the book could stay a little more mine:)
Really? I’ve been avoiding reviews for it. I don’t want to hear one disparaging word about this book because I love it so much. I just stay inside my bubble with it. lol.
Interesting, I just read another review of this and the reviewer who is a big fan of Hoover hating this because of the cheating… now I am not sure what to do. Should I read it or not????
Grr … I hate cheating … I’ve had plenty of experience in that department, but this is different. I’m not even going to get into it, because this will just end in a rant. I’m refusing to read other reviews, especially like those you mentioned because I’ll need to use the punching bag.
Wow, this sounds wonderful. i’m a sucker for some good humor too, so those aspects will definitely work for me!!
The humor was such a fantastic aspect that I really appreciated.
One of these days I’ll read CHoover, I got her Hopeless book when it went free as well as her debut series, but that felt too heavy for me so maybe I’ll put that off for later.
I was always hesitant to read her books because I heard they were heavy, so I’m glad I started with this one.
I’ve been wanting to read this since my blog mate reviewed it, but your review makes me want to put it higher on my TBR. Love Colleen’s writing. 🙂
You need to, Grace!
I truly loved this book. I’m Hoovered! Most definitely. She ruined me for books with music as a theme! I would always want to listen to the songs. Brilliant review!
Oh I know, the entire musical element was/is fan-freaking-tastic!
WOW. Dre just reviewed this and she ended up loving it too! I only havea copy of Hopeless but I think I’ll read this book first since everybody adores it! I have that same feeling with Sea of Tranquillity! I didn’t want to read anything else after reading that one, it did a number on me. I’m glad you found a book that you absolutely loved Christy, that’s one of the best feelings in the world 🙂
Dre’s review is probably one of the only one’s I’ve read because I know she loved it so much too. I still haven’t read Sea of Tranquility, but know I need to!
Sea of Tranquility did the same for me! That book was intense, lol.
Maybe I should make that a priority for this or next month.
It seems like we show the same feelings on Maybe Someday. Like you, I had so many overwhelming feelings, and I couldn’t let everything out. This is such an excellent review. I’m happy you loved MS!
Yay, I’m so happy when other people love a book I love so much.
Just added it to my tbr list and I’m pushing to the front of the line and will try to get to it in May 🙂 Great review!
I hope you love it too!
YES I am glad you know the greatness of Colleen Hoover now! This book was simply amazing, and she did really well with the characters and depth of feeling and emotion. I loved it as much as you did, including the album as well. Make sure you read the epilogue on the website too!
Whaaat?! Thanks for the heads up! *runs to read epilogue*
Sounds like you’ve got a nasty case of book hangover girl! Then again, in this case I don’t think you minded at all. 🙂
It has been over a week now and I’m still feeling it. I never want it to end! 😀
oo there’s a playlist? did not know that, must listen to it now.
And an epilogue on the same website!
Okay, you have made me a fan and I haven’t read her yet! 🙂 I want to now so much even though you say she makes you sob. I hate to cry, but this does sound so compelling!
lol – well, maybe you won’t cry. Sometimes I’m a big baby under all this armor. 😉
The thing about Collen Hoover is that she’s perfected the art of f*cking up with your emotions so perfectly you almost WANT her too. I liked this book and i’m glad you did too and im so with you on the whole being a sucker for humour thing. God i laughed so hard reading this book. There were just so many well timed comedic moments. But that aside I think you now need to read Hopeless! That book will really hit you. Promise!

That’s so true. It’s like I keep going back to passages from the book because I want that feeling to last. The woman does indeed have a gift. I will probably read Hopeless after the book I’m starting now.
Wow! Stunning Review Christy! I loved this book for all the same reasons you did! All of Colleen Hoover’s books are amazing! Trust me when I say you need to read all of them in private! I always cry a lot when I read her stories! I loved the humor in this book as well. Like you said, sometimes there isn’t a bad guy, and I applaud the fact that Ms. Hoover didn’t take the easy out with Maggie either. You need to read the Hopeless Series and Slammed Series!!!!
lol – Oh, I will definitely be reading the rest in private. Yes, Colleen handled it perfectly – with maturity and understanding. Which is a big part of why I appreciate it so much. I’m going to read Hopeless VERY soon.
I keep seeing rave reviews of this, I need to get a copy! And wow, I can’t believe there is a whole soundtrack for this book – I just checked out I’m in Trouble and I love it. Can’t wait to meet Ridge and Sydney. Wonderful review!
I love this book to death! 😀
I have yet to read a book by Colleen Hoover, but I’m very excited to read one. I heard great things about Maybe Someday, so I think I’ll probably start with that one as soon as I find some time.
I just finished her other book, Hopeless, and the woman definitely had mad talent. You should read something by her for sure.
I need to read another Hoover book ASAP! I’ve only read the Slammed series so far, which broke me down. I’ll have to snag a copy of this sometime soon!
I just finished Hopeless, and holy wow. Slammed will be my next Hoover book.
I haven’t read anything by Colleen Hoover, yet. I bought “Slammed”, but it has been sitting in my TBR pile for a while. I’ve heard nothing but good things about her books. This one sounds really great. I like it when there’s a little humor mixed in as well. Thanks for the review!
She is an amazing writer. 🙂
So you’re saying stop messing around and read this one already, huh? You know I love CoHo, so this is on the list. So happy you enjoyed it so much!
