Have you ever gone just a little too far?
Lexie Banks has.
Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.
But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.
I knew I had to read A Little Too Far as soon as I read the blurb. C’mon, how could I not be curious? Boy oh boy, did this book ever give me whiplash of the heart. It required some time for me to sort out my feelings before I could even write this. Oh, it was a really good book, it’s just that … well, it’s hard to explain without spoiling it, so I’m not even going to get into exactly why, even though I want to so badly.
Lexie and Trent are best friends who are each other’s confidant. They have been close for years, and have an amazing bond. Then one day things are unexpectantly taken to another level. They have sex. And it was amazing. Oh, and they are also step-siblings. Yeah, I know, sounds odd. The author did a great job of making me actually root for them to be together, though. There was a lot of depth to their relationship and I could feel how much they cared for each other. But they know it was wrong. Or was it? Either way, Lexie moves to Italy the next day to spend a year abroad as part of an art history program, so they decide to act like it never happened. And that’s that. Maybe.
Then enters Alessandro, a Reverend with a Catholic church in Italy. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendship he and Lexie developed. Her time in Italy with Alessandro took up the majority of the book; we see them grow closer and closer as the day approaches for him to be ordained. The chemistry between them was clear, but Lexie still struggled with the feelings for her stepbrother, while Alessandro questions what he really wants. So I went from wanting Lexie and Trent to find a way to work, to falling in love with Alessandro and Lexie. I was completely invested in them. That’s all I’m going to say.
All of the characters were easy to like despite certain situations, but I definitely liked Alessandro the most. The story and characters were certainly complex. When I think something will go one way, it goes another. Way to play with my emotions, Lisa Desrochers! No, really, thank you. Even though the emotions and feeling were all over the place, and left me feeling conflicted, it was ultimately a good thing. As the book got closer and closer to the end, I had to resist the overwhelming urge to take a sneak peek at the blurb for the next book, because I was dying to see who it was about. I resisted, though, because I didn’t want it to spoil this book. Oh, but was it ever hard!
In the end, A Little Too Far was a pretty good book as I expected. Now I’m looking forward to A Little Too Much!
So I read book 3, A Little Too Hot and was not impressed, so now I am scared to read the first two. I know each book has different characters so I am hoping that means I might like this one.
I know the 3rd book revolves around a friend that’s in this book, but she’s not in it very much.
So. Much. Indecision. I’m worried that this series is taboo for the sake of being taboo. Step-siblings having sex. Catholic priests questioning their vows. But at the same time I’m as susceptible to schadenfreude as the next person. I do have this already. I think it’s just a matter of being in the right mood for it, you know?
He’s not a priest yet. He is due to take his vows and struggles with what he really wants. It’s actually played out well. Since you already have it, I say go for it. lol – but yeah, I had to be in the mood for this to read it.
I actually love that this played with your emotions! I love books like that, that keep you on your toes and a little torn about which direction you think it will go and which you want it to go.
Great review. I can see this is going to be another must read for me.
It did. It was like as soon as I’d get comfortable the author would rip it away. I liked that, though.
I just added a book to my wish list that seems to be as emotional as this, but it sound so good..And so does this one! I love that feeling…right there! At the end o of your review..I want to feel like that too 🙂
On my TBR it goes.
Thanks!
Yep, I want to feel SOMETHING when I read a book, so I always appreciate when an author gets me to do so strongly.
yay glad to hear you like this one! I won a full set and I cannot wait to read it myself 😀
Oh cool, hope you like them!
I have her YA series on my shelf but haven’t read yet, and like most of the NA, haven’t gotten to yet. I really don’t get when people think stepsiblings getting together are weird. I mean, if they grew up from babies/toddlers together, in the same house, etc then yes, I find it weird. But if their parent’s got together when they’re older, then I really don’t see the problem. It’s different if they were half siblings, then yeah, ack. I’m finding the priest thing more scandalous than that. Glad you enjoyed it though!
I didn’t realize she has a YA series too. Well, when people hear step-siblings they think of family, and that’s taboo. I think it just all depends on the situation though, like the one you mentioned. The other guy wasn’t a priest yet, though. He was still in that stage before taking his vows, where he could change his mind. He was struggling with what he wanted to do.
You are on a romance kick lately, what is wrong with you? Where is the zombie loving Christy? I still have no desire to read this series, I don’t know why, but it just doesn’t appeal to me.
I don’t know, but this shit needs to stop. lol. Yeah, I couldn’t really see you enjoying this one too much.
I ignored this because I saw NA and I was like “pass!”. But it’s like a modern Thorn Birds! I want this now too!
I hadn’t heard of Thorn Birds until now. I’ll have to look it up.
OMG, I just saw Braine’s comment and that is exactly what I was thinking of, Thorn Birds..LOL I am glad you enjoyed this one Christy!
.I just looked up Thorn Birds … man, that sounds like some major drama. lol.
Oh no! Another great review of this book! I still haven’t jumped on the NA bandwagon yet, but I think this will be the series I need to read. So glad you enjoyed this one!
I loved this book, and though I did have moments where I wanted L&A together, I was a big Trent fan. Given that you’re a big fan of Alessandro’s, I think you’ll really enjoy A Little Too Much!
Woah sounds super controversial! And emotional! I’m kind of glad Alessandro comes into the scene because the step siblings couldn’t work out really? Lovely review Christy, I have’t heard of this book before.
Amazing review, Christy! This sounds intriguing as hell, and I don’t think I’d ever tried reading this author.
OOo emotional whiplash. Okay definitely need to try this one. I’ve actually read a step-siblings getting involved with each other and at first it had me doing the whoa hold on a minute but then it actually worked and wasn’t too squeamy after the initial shock since I’d not read it before.
Thanks for the heads up on this one. New to me author/series so interested to check it out 🙂
I loved A Little Too Far! A Little Much was really good as well, and A Little Too Hot is my favorite of the series so far! I loved the characters, the complexity of the plot, and all of the surprises along the way as well. Great Review Christy 🙂
I keep reading good things about this book. Sounds like a very well-done story. I have to admit, I’m not a fan of the covers though!
I have read a lot of conflicting reviews about this book because of the whole stepbrother/priest thing, but I don’t think it would bother me. I really like the sound of this one and your review makes it sound so beautiful!! AWESOME review girl!

Once you get to know the step-siblings and their situation, it’s a bit easier to understand and get behind. And the other guy isn’t a priest yet, he is still in that stage where he can change his mind and there is more to his situation. It’s one of those books you just have to go into with an open mind and know there’s more depth to it.
I missed this when I was on vacation but I totally feel your pain on this one! My emotions were all over the place and I was hardcore rooting for Alessandro and Lexie too. He was my favorite. In my head this book had a very different ending, but ah well, I still loved it immensely. 😀 Awesome review!
lol – I occasionally reject endings and replace them with my own. 😉
