Life can change in a split second.
Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.
When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.
Seriously, can Kasie West do no wrong? The first book I read by West was Pivot Point, and I was pleasantly surprised at how great it was. Now, usually there’s some trepidation when it comes to a sequel that has such a strong predecessor, but I honestly didn’t feel any going into Split Second. I was confident that it would hold up just fine – and it did! I admit, I did enjoy the structure of Pivot Point a little more and felt a bigger emotional impact from it, but Split Second was still a fantastic read.
Pivot Point was told only from Addie’s perspective while looking at two different futures. This time, Split Second is told from Addie and Lila’s perspectives but stays in present time. Addie only uses her divergent abilities a few times, but they are quick instances. Instead, it’s Lila’s ability of erasing memories that take a front seat. We also get a lot more insight to the Compound and how it works; not to mention how dangerous it can be.
I adored Addie and Lila in Pivot Point, and was happy to find they were just as enjoyable this time around. Actually, I loved Lila even more; she’s funny, sure of herself, and is used to getting her way with guys. So imagine her frustration when Connor doesn’t melt like putty in her hands when she needs something from him. That’s right, an entertaining love-hate relationship blossoms between the two. I loved them together, and honestly, they overshadowed Addie and Trevor at times! I also enjoyed Lila’s relationship with her little brothers; it allowed us to see just what a good person she is.
And then we have Addie and Trevor. While I was hopeful the two would find a HEA, the road getting there was full of anxiety for a number of reasons: 1) We don’t know if Addie would ever get those memories back; 2) We do know Trevor will never have those memories; and 3) The damn Compound screwing everything up! So much could and does go wrong, that I was definitely anxious about how everything could possibly end okay. I still love these two together, even though the situations they were in were a bit more strained this time around.
While there were a few side characters that played big roles in this story, the one I need to mention is Rowen. Can this guy please get his own novella or companion novel? Something? Please? I love his funny, outgoing personality and need more, dammit!
Ahem … anyway, Split Second was a great sequel that had me biting my nails a couple of times. Fun relationships, a thrilling ride, and loveable characters; how could I not love it?

I just got Pivot Point a couple of weeks ago, but I haven’t read it yet. It was on my wishlist forever, so I’m hoping to get to it soon (REAL soon). I’m glad the sequel is something to look forward to 🙂
Yay, hope you love it! Kasie West seriously rocks.
Glad to hear this one was amazing! I’ve heard heaps of raving things about Kasie West and Split Second, just haven’t been able to read it yet. Lovely review, I hope to check it out some time.
You should! Kasie is a wonderful writer. 🙂
Yay! So glad you liked this one, I have high hopes with it since reading the first and loving it like you did.
Great review!!
I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one too, Ali. 🙂
Loved Pivot Point and I am so excited to be able to read this one soon too. Great review. I am happy that to know that it is a good sequel. 🙂
You’ll enjoy it, Jenea!
YAY! I just adore all things Kasie West too Christy! I agree Pivot Point was a bit stronger of a story, particularly in the emotion department, but I so enjoyed reading this and seeing Addie and Trevor figure things out all over again. I would read 10 books about them and still crave more I think:)
I always crave more of Kasie’s characters!
Ugh, I need to read Pivot Point already, hate being out of the loop with them especially because of all the hype and a friend has read them, and I trust her opinion so I don’t know why I keep putting it off. But, I’m going to make it the first when I have time for “me” books. Glad you loved it just as much as the first though! 🙂
Oh, Krisy, you do … you really, really do! I’m sure you love it.
I love the cover arts for this series!
i’m sure you’re not the only Rowen gal, hopefully she’ll hear your request and write a novella or something.
I hope so! 🙂
I still need to read my ARC of book one, sigh… I do like this author and I grabbed her summer contemp.
The ARC?! What the heck, woman? Read it! I love all her books.
Yay! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed this! I have it and had to set it aside in the meantime, but I’m very excited to get back to it. Loved the first book. I would definitely not object to novellas, so I hope Kasie takes note of your Rowen request. 🙂 Great review!
I would love more of ALL her characters, but definitely need more Rowen. 😀
I don’t remember ever seeing these! They sounds intense but so good! And love it when the sequel comes out swinging too and really has ya going just as much as the first. Thanks for the heads up on these 🙂
I haven’t had a chance to read this series, but it sounds very cool. I’m keeping an eye out for these books.
Ack. This book. This book put me through the wringer. Ugh. I was verrah conflicted about this book. In the end, I didn’t love it quite as much as Pivot Point. But you know what? Kassie West rocks my socks.
I grabbed Pivot Point a while back and so need to read it. I am convinced I will like this series!
I totally agree with your first sentence 😉 Kasie West is one of my all time favorite authors. I thought Laila was awesome and I definitely loved hers and Connor’s relationship. Great review!
I am so relieved to hear this was good. It’s hard to follow up Pivot Point. I am so excited to read this one.
I really enjoyed this one as well, Christy! Although I still loved Addie more than Laila. 🙂 Trevor and Connor were both so freaking adorable! I definitely bit my nails a few times too. Lovely review.
Great Review Christy! I can’t wait to read this series! Myself and my cob loggers are reading Pivot Point and discussing it in may for a challenge we’re participating in. I’m excited to hear that Split Second was such a great sequel! I can’t wait to meet Addie and Lila, as well as Trevor and Connor! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂
Another good find Christy, thanks! This another series I’ve never heard of before, but then again I used only look at books with half naked men on the covers..LOL
