The sisters have been manipulated and controlled by the Keane Foundation for years, trapped in a never ending battle for survival. Now they have found allies who can help them truly escape. After faking her own death, Annie has joined a group that is plotting to destroy the Foundation. And Fia is working with James Keane to bring his father down from the inside.
But Annie's visions of the future can't show her who to trust in the present. And though James is Fia's first love, Fia knows he's hiding something. The sisters can rely only on each other - but that may not be enough to save them.
Oh, how I loved this book! I completely fell in love with the characters and writing in Mind Games, so I was absolutely ecstatic to read Perfect Lies. I enjoyed the first book a little more, but this one totally held its own.
I can’t even tell you how much I love the writing style of this series. It has a complexity to it that kept me fully engaged. It doesn’t follow a conventional timeline, there are actually times we know an outcome before we see a plan set in motion. It’s hard to explain, but it’s so cool. I love seeing how the different choices affect so much. Love it, I tell you!
Perfect Lies is also told from both Fia and Annie’s perspective, just like in the previous book. Fia is my girl. She’s a very angry young lady, and with good reason. It breaks my heart how messed up she is from being used by the institute, but I do adore her violent tendencies. I can’t help it, her slightly manic personality is a huge draw for me. Then the addition of Mae, was perfect. The two of these girls just clicked for me.
“I can’t tell you how much I wish I could not care.”
I sigh and sit down. “You have one minute to unburden your soul to me before I get too antsy and either hit you or go back to dancing.”
“See, that’s why I like you. You don’t lie.
And while Annie didn’t make a huge impression on me in Mind Games, she certainly did this time around. After years of being a weakling and controlled by the institute, she blossomed into a strong woman and took control. Fia may have saved Annie in the last book, but this time it was Annie’s turn to save Fia.
I honestly didn’t know who to trust in this book! I completely trusted Fia because of her perfect instincts, so when her instincts start telling her to do the opposite of what she thought was right … I was so torn right along with her. I love that feeling, though, because it rarely happens anymore. Oh, but it was so much more than just right or wrong, and who to trust and who not trust. I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘ah-ha’ moment towards the end that kind of explained the dilemma.
I’m so happy that Perfect Lies rocked just as much as the first book! The ending was very satisfying, but I would not be opposed to another book. I really have become a fan of Kiersten White and look forward to reading anything and everything by her.
Mind Games Series

I love when a series continues to be great. I always get scared with second books because they sometimes falter a bit.
Yes, it sucks when a sequel it a let down. Thank goodness this one wasn’t. 😀
I am so glad Anne impressed you this go round. I have book one in my tbr pile ..of course!
Haha, of course.
I’ve read so much bad rap about Kiersten White (most of my friends didn’t like this book and its predecessor) so I’ve been avoiding it, but I’m glad you enjoyed both books. I’m not sure if I’ll be approaching it anytime soon (hopefully I’ll find the courage… haha. I’m just so tired of being disappointed!), but you give me hope that perhaps it won’t be as bad as I think 😀
Great review. Followed you!
Really? That’s too bad. I love characters I can identify with, and I’ve always been able to identify with White’s characters.
I am happy that you enjoyed this one as much as the first one. I have this one in my TBR pile of books. hopefully I can get to it soon. 🙂 Great review.
I hope you can too!
I need to read this series Christy! I love that in this second book Fia has to question herself in a way she never has before, and therefore we question right along with her. That sounds fascinating, I just adore not knowing exactly who I can trust. Glad this sequel worked so well for you!!!!
I love not knowing who to trust too, but it seems like that is lacking lately in books. So I appreciate when I get it! 😀
I would love to have another book as well because like you, I just can’t get enough of Fia, I love how wild, out of control and slightly unstable she is, plus even though the ending was great, I would just love more.
Yes, more of Fia would be wonderful!
I have got to read this series. I am glad you were okay with the ending, everyone seems to think it is too open ended?
I was happy with the ending, it was a very nice way to end it. As for open ended though … no, not really. What they were dealing with was done and over, but life goes on.
I haven’t read any of these but it’s always good to hear about a series where the second book is almost as awesome as the first!!
It’s always good to read an awesome 2nd book too. 😀
It is good to see a character growing on you more in the second book!! Great review!!

Yes, it’s definitely a good thing. 🙂
I’m glad this second book worked out for you. If I recall, I don’t think I enjoyed the first book all that much, so I’m torn between whether I want to pick Perfect Lies up. Great review 🙂
If you do, I hope you enjoy it. 🙂
I love her! Her books and heroines always
Makes me laugh. Regardless of the story, KWhite is always a quick read for me.
Same here! 🙂
Great review, Christy. I’m dying to read this one. Like you, I quite enjoyed Mind Games as well, so I’m pumped that it met your expectations. 🙂
Oh goodie! I hope you enjoy it too. 🙂
I just saw this morning this book in the new releases (audio) YAY! That means I can start the first book without a long wait for this one 🙂
I love what you have to say about this book, and looks like you you enjoyed the first book too, so yes! it’s a sale 🙂
Thank you Christy!
Oh I’m curious how Fia sounds on the audio compared to how I hear her voice in my head.
I haven’t tried this series yet, but it sounds really good. So glad you enjoyed the second book!
Wow, it sounds like a brilliant read! I like how you said you don’t know who to trust here because there is so much going on. Lovely review!
I liked the first book better — I wish I’d had time to re-read Mind Games because I was a little confused. But I enjoyed these too!

This series sound right up my alley, I cant believe this is the first I’ve heard if it. I’m glad the sequel did not dissapoint and the two characters sound very different from each other so I’m interested on their relationship. Lovely review Christy!
I actually really enjoyed this more than Mind Games, I just felt it was a lot stronger because I liked the characters more. Fia’s definitely my favourite, and I don’t know, she kind of felt more stable this time around…more in the sense of she knows how far she can be pushed. I warmed up to Annie a lot more, but I still don’t like her. The main thing I love about the series though, that no matter how annoying at times it is, it’s clever and complex and completely addictive. I do hope there’s more though, since there’s a lot of ways it could go, so hopefully. *fingers crossed*
I also really loved Mind Games, so I’m thrilled to hear you thought this was just as good! Though I originally didn’t know this was the last book (I hope that changes!). I agree with you, Fia totally rocks, and I can’t wait to get back inside her head. Annie didn’t make much of an impression in the first book, so I hope having her perspective will bring me around to connecting with her more. What a lovely review, SO happy to hear you loved this!
