The sisters have been manipulated and controlled by the Keane Foundation for years, trapped in a never ending battle for survival. Now they have found allies who can help them truly escape. After faking her own death, Annie has joined a group that is plotting to destroy the Foundation. And Fia is working with James Keane to bring his father down from the inside.
But Annie's visions of the future can't show her who to trust in the present. And though James is Fia's first love, Fia knows he's hiding something. The sisters can rely only on each other - but that may not be enough to save them.
Oh, how I loved this book! I completely fell in love with the characters and writing in Mind Games, so I was absolutely ecstatic to read Perfect Lies. I enjoyed the first book a little more, but this one totally held its own.
I can’t even tell you how much I love the writing style of this series. It has a complexity to it that kept me fully engaged. It doesn’t follow a conventional timeline, there are actually times we know an outcome before we see a plan set in motion. It’s hard to explain, but it’s so cool. I love seeing how the different choices affect so much. Love it, I tell you!
Perfect Lies is also told from both Fia and Annie’s perspective, just like in the previous book. Fia is my girl. She’s a very angry young lady, and with good reason. It breaks my heart how messed up she is from being used by the institute, but I do adore her violent tendencies. I can’t help it, her slightly manic personality is a huge draw for me. Then the addition of Mae, was perfect. The two of these girls just clicked for me.
“I can’t tell you how much I wish I could not care.”
I sigh and sit down. “You have one minute to unburden your soul to me before I get too antsy and either hit you or go back to dancing.”
“See, that’s why I like you. You don’t lie.
And while Annie didn’t make a huge impression on me in Mind Games, she certainly did this time around. After years of being a weakling and controlled by the institute, she blossomed into a strong woman and took control. Fia may have saved Annie in the last book, but this time it was Annie’s turn to save Fia.
I honestly didn’t know who to trust in this book! I completely trusted Fia because of her perfect instincts, so when her instincts start telling her to do the opposite of what she thought was right … I was so torn right along with her. I love that feeling, though, because it rarely happens anymore. Oh, but it was so much more than just right or wrong, and who to trust and who not trust. I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘ah-ha’ moment towards the end that kind of explained the dilemma.
I’m so happy that Perfect Lies rocked just as much as the first book! The ending was very satisfying, but I would not be opposed to another book. I really have become a fan of Kiersten White and look forward to reading anything and everything by her.
