Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back! And she's drinking copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake because every time she closes her eyes she sees him: Reyes Farrow, the part-human, part-supermodel son of Satan.

Granted she did imprison Reyes for all eternity, but how is she supposed to solve a missing-persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hell-bent on murder when the devil's son just won't give up on his plan of seduction..... and revenge?

Oh, Charley! You crazy reaper, you! I am absolutely loving this series! I mean really, what is there not to love about it? That’s right, nothing. Amazing characters, humor, steamy scenes, great story … yeah, it has it all. And Third Grave Dead Ahead was another fantastic edition to the series.

This time, Charley is working a missing person’s case, searching for the wife of a possessive doctor. I really enjoy how there are individual cases in each book, and I especially liked this one. While I was able to guess certain aspects of it, it did have me guessing about others throughout the book. As Charley is dealing with all of that madness, she’s also thrown into a situation involving Reyes that could be game changing. Not to mention extremely dangerous. Pfft, as if that deters Charley.

While there is no shortage of humor, I did find myself laughing more loudly while reading the second book. However, Third Grave had some intimate scenes that had me fanning myself. Every time Charley dozes off, Reyes is there in her dreams, and they are smokin’ hot! Unfortunately, it’s taking a drastic toll on her, but she can’t figure out how to keep him out of her dreams. I’m sorry, but I would just go into a coma and enjoy the ride. *winks*

I haven’t exactly been knocked head-over-heels by Reyes, but no way would I turn that down. However, he walks a fine line with me. I’m not too keen on how he manipulated Charley, but I do understand why he needed to at times. I do love that Charely remains stubborn and refuses to back down from him. The fact that I’m sure he loves that about her too, is what ultimately keeps him in my good graces. 😀

Along with Cookie, Uncle Bob, and Garrett Swopes still remaining instrumental in Charley’s life, we’re also introduced to some new characters. A nun who hears angels, a little ghost girl with a huge knife, and a biker gang that I may be in love with. It still surprises me how Darynda can throw so many awesome characters and storylines in and weave them so expertly. I’m not ashamed to say this either, but Darynda totally made me ugly cry with this book. The great thing is, though, she can have me ugly crying, and then a moment later have me laughing hysterically.

So, I’m sure you already know what I’m going to tell you, right? Read this series! And now, I’m immediately moving on to the next book, Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, because I can’t stand the anticipation. I need to know what happens next!

Hehe. You and me both Christy! I’ve only read the first book in this series but I absolutely loved it so I can’t wait to get all caught up. I definitely want to know more about Reyes, and I’m of course looking forward to those dreams of hers. Not sure why she fights them 😉

  2. Everytime I read another great review from a book in this series, I feel like hitting myself in the head for not reading it sooner. I even have the first book, mocking me from my shelf.

I am starting a list of personal books to start in April after I kick some review copy butt in March with the Take control of my TBR event. This is going on that list!

Great review christy. I just skimmed it though because I am new to the series. 🙂
