Charismatic bar owner Rowdy Yates isn’t the kind of man women say no to. So when he approaches waitress Avery Mullins, he fully expects to get her number. However, the elusive beauty has her reasons for keeping her distance—including a past that might come back to haunt them both.
Avery spends her nights working for tips… and trying to forget the secret Rowdy is determined to unearth. But when history threatens to repeat itself, Avery grows to rely on Rowdy’s protective presence. As the sparks between them ignite, she will be forced to choose between the security she’s finally found… and the passion she’s always wanted..
Oh, hell yes! Getting Rowdy is without a doubt my favorite of the series so far! I have been looking forward to reading this book since I met Rowdy in Run the Risk. And I assure you, it did not disappoint.
Alpha males run a fine line with me, I’m very picky. Rowdy, though, yeah … he’s a keeper! Rowdy Yates is a scoundrel to say the least. When it comes to women, he’s there for one thing – sex. He doesn’t make promises he doesn’t intend to keep, and he doesn’t play games. That may sound bad, but that’s something I appreciate. Rowdy is rough around the edges and enjoys a good fight, but the man has a heart of gold. Don’t tell him I told you that, because he doesn’t take compliments well. 😉 The guy has never settled down and made roots anywhere, but when he buys a bar and turns it into a reputable place, it’s only the beginning of big changes for Mr. Yates.
Not only did I love Rowdy, I also loved Avery. I knew I would when we met in the first book. She has that fiery personality I love so much, which makes for some funny moments. Avery may have a temper that keeps Rowdy on his toes, but she’s also good for him. She’s tender and loving, giving him something he never thought possible. I love the playfulness and teasing they share, even the jealousy moment. I don’t like a lot of jealousy and a bunch of insecurities in the relationships I read, but everything is balanced and plays out really well in this book. It can get more humorous than annoying, and that’s what I like.
Let us pause a moment to gaze upon the gorgeousness on the book cover …. Okay, sorry, I needed a Rowdy fix.
Anyway, Getting Rowdy is a perfect example of why I refuse to read a series out of order or skip books, even if each book revolves around different characters. I enjoyed Run the Risk quite a bit, but Bare It All wasn’t that great of a read for me at the time. However, I am very happy that I did read it. I like knowing why certain characters are the way they are with each other, and knowing their backgrounds. For instance, Alice was far from being a favorite character of mine in the second book; I didn’t like reading from her perspective, but liked her more in this book since I had a better understanding of her. I liked knowing the history and unique relationship she shared with Rowdy. I need that knowledge in order to fully appreciate a character and/or relationships. And just like Rowdy and Avery were introduced in the previous books, Dash’s story was set up in this one. Plus, I suspect there might be another book in the future that involves Cannon, a new character introduced in Getting Rowdy. It’s in my nature to fully understand people, so I need to know everything, even if that means getting through a not so stealer installment of a series.
So yes, Getting Rowdy was a whole lot of yummy goodness. It’s a mighty fine mixture of sexy and fun, just how I like it. Do I recommend it? Of course! Now I need to get my claws into Dash of Peril. Oh, that’s going to be so much fun!
Love Undercover Series

This just makes me smile. Seeing you fanciful but just so we are clear Rowdy is mine and so is Dash..bwahaha. oh and I think I saw Dash on netgalley. Run….
Omg hate my smartphone. .fangirl
Admit it, you like seeing me fanciful too. lol. I already have my Dash, just didn’t at the time I wrote this. I might be willing to give up Rowdy, but I think Dash will be MINE! 😀
NEGATIVE
You’re saying ‘negative’ to seeing me fanciful, right? Not saying I can’t have Dash. Okay, good, glad I cleared that up. lol
Uh no sweet cheeks..they are mine all mine…
Poppycock!
I know Kim loves this author too, I really need to give her a try. I think I might have gotten the first book in this series, I need to check.
That she does. She’s the one who got me hooked on it.
Oh oh! I need to read this series. I’m always on the lookout for some easy reading books and these books sound like they might just do the trick. Not to mention I’m also a fan of hot tamales. Lol.
Like you, I’m cautious about those alpha males as well. Sometimes, they’re aggravating.
Lovely review, Christy!
Heh, I love me a hot tamale. 😉
“Let us pause a moment to gaze upon the gorgeousness on the book cover …. Okay, sorry, I needed a Rowdy fix.”
Confession: I may have stared at that cover for a solid 3 minutes before I could even read your review. He’s just so pretty. And rugged. Ruggedly pretty:) I’m so glad you loved this one Christy, I can’t wait to get my hands on Rowdy! Um, Rowdy’s BOOK. Not Rowdy himself. Obviously 😉
Hahaha – yes, obviously. 😉
I love the name, Rowdy, it promises a lot of exciting things.
I agree with reading series in order even if it’s contemporary romance. I still have my stubborn moments but you made a great point in saying it helps us understand why characters are the way they are.
Have a great week ahead!
Exciting, indeed. 😉
oh my I think I would like Rowdy 😀 especially if his rough around the edges, doesn’t beat around the bush much huh?
I have yet to pick up a Lori Foster book, oops me but people keep saying how much they love it! I have to read it if I can find some time.
Rowdy is positively yummy.
YES! I do love her writing and I can’t believe I haven’t yet read any in this series. I will fix it one day. This sounds so good. 🙂
I have read any of her other books, only this series. I’m sure I eventually will though.
Rowdy sounds like my kind of alpha too. I’m so bad about reading these books in order, but it sounds like you definitely get more out of it by sticking to the series order. I’ll have to add this to my list. Lovely review!
Rowdy is definitely a good alpha. 😉
I love Lori Foster’s books but haven’t read any in awhile. Need to get this series asap!
Yes you do!
I haven’t read anything by Foster, and I think this would be an awesome series to start with. Rowdy sounds like a man I would love! Great review!
Oh, you definitely need to, Jenea.
I loved Rowdy too 🙂 Avery was an awesome leading lady, and they had such great chemistry! I need to read the other two books in the series, but I don’t see how they can top Rowdy! Have you seen Dash of Peril is on Netgalley?!!! It’s the next installment in the series! Excellent Review Christy!
Lindy@ A Bookish Escape
I had this review scheduled way before Dash was on NG, so I didn’t have it at the time. But oh boy, do I ever have it now! 😉
ahh come on live on the edge and be a rebel read some books out of order. Wussy!
Pfft … that’s one OCD tendency I won’t be breaking.
I never read Lori Foster before..I know..I know..LOL So I went to check for audio, and all the books are there! YAY! Narrated by one my favorite male narrators to boot! So yes, It’s going on my wish list.
Looking forward to the series 🙂
Thanks!
This was the first in the series that I read, and I really liked it too! Rowdy was great. I’m looking forward to reading Dash of Peril soon. That one should be interesting!
Oh yeah. I loved Rowdy too! I’ve been dying for Dash’s book since book one. lol He’s the one that caught my eye when everyone else seemed to be waiting for Rowdy 🙂 Glad you had such a good time with him!
Yay Rowdy! I love Rowdy. I’m glad I started at the beginning too. I read the the first two book in the series (those were good too!) just so I could get the full Rowdy effect (as per recommended by Kimbacaffeinate haha) & it definitely wasn’t disappointing. I have Dash, I’m soooo excited to read it! …which reminds me I need to write reviews for the rest of the books but I’m too lazy. Great Review Christy!
Haha, yes, Kimba sent me the first book so I had to read it. She totally got me hooked. 😀 I have Dash too, and can’t wait to dive in!
