After barely escaping the Mission alive, Gene and Sissy face an impossible task: staying alive long enough to stop an entire world bent on their destruction. Bound on a train heading into the unknown with the surviving Mission girls, Gene, Sissy, David, and Epap must stick together and use everything they have to protect each other and their only hope: the cure that will turn the blood-thirsty creatures around them into humans again. Now that they know how to reverse the virus, Gene and Sissy have one final chance to save those they love and create a better life for themselves. But as they struggle to get there, Gene's mission sets him on a crash course with Ashley June, his first love . . . and his deadliest enemy. (less)
Well, that was interesting! Well played, Mr. Fukuda. Well played.
If you’ve read the first two books in this series, then there is no way you not anticipating The Trap. No. Way. If you haven’t read them, then stop right now and go start. Go on, I’ll wait right here for you. Don’t worry if you haven’t though, I’m not going to get into details since this is the third and final book.
After finishing The Prey, The Trap became one of my most anticipated reads of 2013. I loved the first book and thought the second was even better, so I was expecting to go out with a bang in this one. Did it? *evil grin* Maaaaybe. Seriously though, Fukuda didn’t hold back, and he gets major respect from me for that. This trilogy isn’t rainbows, butterflies and sparkly vampires; it is gritty and everything nightmares are made of.
One thing I could never say about not only this book, but the trilogy as a whole, is that it’s boring. It moves at a quick pace without being overwhelming. I also both love and hate the way Fukuda ends his chapters. I love them because they always gave me the feeling of “ahhhh, I have to find out what happens next!” Why do I hate it? For the same reason. I literally could not stop myself from reading when I needed to. Ultimately, though, that’s a very good thing.
I absolutely love what Fukuda did with this story! It all comes down to this, and everything … the truth … about the duskers and the hepers is explained. And holy crap, did I ever love it! It was said in the first book that things aren’t as they appear, and now you will understand why. We also get a few flashbacks of specific situations that show a different perspective than Gene’s, which answers some questions from the previous books. It all came together wonderfully, and I was left with a big grin on my face.
So yes, The Trap was an excellent ending to an extremely well done trilogy. And yes, it’s a little different, but that is what sets it apart from so many other books that are out there now. This is definitely a trilogy I will not forget.
I am over 50% done and trying to keep my eyes open to finish it…totally agree Fukada is never boring, and I am so caught up in the madness of it..and OMG some of the scenes are *shivers*
You can do it! I can’t wait for you to finish it.
*Fukuda 🙂
I read books 1 & 2 back to back in 2 days non-stop with very little sleep. It was that good!! Couldn’t put them down. And what a cliffhanger!! I am DYING to see happens next not to mention all the unsolved mysteries left to unravel.
If I didn’t already plan on reading this trilogy Christy your review would have convinced me! I am so glad the ending was great. I have been so worried lately about starting trilogies because it seems the endings are crap.
so glad to hear that it’s fast paced and that you loved the last book! i think thats always a plus!
I have this series, I can’t wait to start it, it sounds really awesome! Wonderful review.
I want to read this series so badly! I keep seeing it everywhere! Great review 🙂
I really should pick up this series again. I did love The Hunt and I’m sure I’ve got The Prey here somewhere. I’m interested to see what happened with Ashley June for sure. One thing that I’m not such a huge fan of are the names of the characters. Seriously. Gene? Lol.
Great review, Christy!
Aww, some of my favorite old men are named Gene – lol. And you’ll find out why that name in The Prey, if I remember correctly.
I still remember your review from book one and you talking about the gore. I want to read this series but alas my ridiculous TBR… Stupid rafflecopter won’t take my entries right now. Can you do it for me. I am being lazy 🙂
What am I, your book bitch? lol. Seriously, you should read these when you get a chance. They’re really quick reads.
Another series that I desperately need to make time for! These sound so good!
Yes, Michele, you MUST read this trilogy!
Alright… I’m starting this trilogy in December!!! I’ve got 4 library books out ahead of it but I can do it 😀 !!! BTW – how is this series for recommending to reluctant teen boy readers?????
pssst.. awesome review! I actually like when authors write their chapter endings on a high cliffy! Keeps you wide ass awake at night!!
Yes, I would definitely put this that list. My son is interested, but hasn’t had much time for “fun” reading. He might read them over Christmas break, though.
Have been meaning to try these! I was worried they’d be too scary for me, but there’s only one way to find out…..
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics
Wow I still need to catch up, but I loved the first book so much and also found it nearly impossible to put down. I’m thrilled to hear you loved this and that it surprised you and made you go back and look at the first book in a new light. I’m SO curious now! I need to get this one ASAP. 🙂 Awesome review!
