An undead serial killer comes for DJ in this thrilling third installment of Suzanne Johnson’s Sentinels of New Orleans series
The mer feud has been settled, but life in South Louisiana still has more twists and turns than the muddy Mississippi.
New Orleanians are under attack from a copycat killer mimicking the crimes of a 1918 serial murderer known as the Axeman of New Orleans. Thanks to a tip from the undead pirate Jean Lafitte, DJ Jaco knows the attacks aren’t random—an unknown necromancer has resurrected the original Axeman of New Orleans, and his ultimate target is a certain blonde wizard. Namely, DJ.
Combatting an undead serial killer as troubles pile up around her isn’t easy. Jake Warin’s loup-garou nature is spiraling downward, enigmatic neighbor Quince Randolph is acting weirder than ever, the Elders are insisting on lessons in elven magic from the world’s most annoying wizard, and former partner Alex Warin just turned up on DJ’s to-do list. Not to mention big maneuvers are afoot in the halls of preternatural power.
Suddenly, moving to the Beyond as Jean Lafitte’s pirate wench could be DJ’s best option.
I love the Sentinel of New Orleans series so damn much, and it just gets better and better! Elysian Fields rocked it. I’ll be honest, when I find a series to fall in love with, I worry about the next book being a big disappointment. I know we’re only on the third book, but I have major confidence that none of the books will bomb anytime soon.
Elysian Fields picks up three weeks after River Road. DJ is still recovering from the fiasco in the last book, but she’s now the sole sentinel of Southern Louisiana. There is a serial killer on the loose and he has his homicidal sights set on DJ. But that’s just the icing on the cake. DJ has one chaotic life. A lot is going on in this book, but I love how the author brings it all around and connects everything. There were a couple of things that bothered me a tiny bit though, but were easy to get over.
Characters are very important to me, and this series is like a jackpot of awesome characters. DJ continues to be a strong, kick-ass MC. I’m so happy that there is obvious growth from her in each book. And the boys … how I love DJ’s posse! She has a unique relationship with each one, and I adore them all. Even the one between her and the creepy neighbor, Rand, because it cracks me up how he seems so unfazed by the way she treats him. Sexy pirate ghosts, weres, mermen, and more …. she has plenty of friends to have her back. And of course there is Alex, their relationship progressed quite nicely in this book. 😉
The world building is great. I swear, I feel like I’m completely immersed in DJ’s world every time I read a book from this series. Not to mention they always make me crave a trip to New Orleans. But I also love getting glimpses into the Beyond and Old Orleans.
Overall, Elysian Fields is action packed, funny, and sexy. Seriously, everyone needs to read this series!
I just wrote my review this morning, but it won’t post till August 8th and I so agree I love the characters, the story and DJ. Awesome review Christy!
Sounds like a great series! I love when the sequels don’t disappoint.

I couldn’t agree more with your review, this one just rocked it!!
This series is just great. Each book has been better than the previous. Really gives us something to look forward to for the next two. The stories also make me wish I could visit New Orleans. Maybe next year for the RT convention.
That’s what I was thinking! RT in NO, ohhh boy! 🙂
Sounds fantastic, I need to pick up this series. Awesome review.
I recently read the first 2 books in the series, and can’t wait for this one to be released. Looks like it is going to be awesome!

I just got my copy of River Road out to start ASAP, I am dying to dig into this series. I won’t be reviewing this until Wicked comes around, though boo!
Have you read Royal Street yet, though? Don’t read them out of order.
This series sounds really interesting and hadn’t hear of it until now!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics
