A trilogy of alternative fairytales and retellings. Discover the real Snow White story through the eyes of Creepy, the unknown 8th dwarf! Meet a teen princess who hires “The Frog Prince” witch to get revenge on a Mean Girl at school! And learn how the giant, boy thief and magic beans tale truly went down!

Tale Spins contains three very clever alternative fairytales told in verse by Michael Mullin. The first two were previously released separately, but now you can get them both in this book, plus a new story, Jack’d. They are all very quick reads, but they are not intended for children. They are most definitely YA and up.

Last year I read two, the first was a hilarious and slightly naughty tale of Creepy, in 8: The Previously Untold Story of the Previously Unknown 8th Dwarf. This is a spin on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, that had me laughing, and introduced me to my new favorite dwarf. The second story was The Plight and Plot of Princess Penny. This is a fun twist on The Frog Prince that I found quit entertaining. Just click on the links to see my reviews.

The newest addition to this fun trilogy is Jack’d. You think you know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk? Think again. Jack’d is told with alternating POV of Jack and the Giant. As with the other stories, it’s told in verse. Jack’d is a little darker than the original, and I love that. There is a completely different twist on this old tale that was a very interesting surprise.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I have a lot of respect for people like Michael who can think and write in such a clever way. Honestly, there’s a little bit of jealousy mixed in with that respect. Seriously, you should take a few minutes and read these, because you’re missing out if you don’t!

You can also purchase these separately:

8: The Previously Untold Story of the Previously Unknown 8th Dwarf
& The Plight and Plot of Princess Penny

  1. Thank you all for your great conversation from many moons ago! I must say I\’ve been keeping busy. TaleSpins continues to gain traction with readers, thanks to great reviews and exposure like Christy’s. And the cult-hit favorite story about Creepy the 8th dwarf now has its own GRAPHIC NOVEL version titled: “8: THE UNTOLD STORY”
Drawn by former Disney artists, it’s the real deal. Thanks again!
