After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status. And once weres start turning up dead—with evidence pointing to the vampires—she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat. An evil known as the Tribe has risen—and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

Cecy Robson did it again! I fell in love with Sealed with a Curse, so I highly anticipated A Cursed Embrace. I claimed this new urban fantasy series a favorite of mine when I read Sealed with a Curse, and I realize that was a presumptuous statement after only the first book. However, sometimes you find those authors you just click with, and Cecy’s writing clicked with me. So I had no doubts that the Weird Girls series was going to be great. After reading A Cursed Embrace, I still stand by that statement.

A Cursed Embrace picks up a week after Sealed with a Curse left off and various were creatures are popping up in pieces all around Tahoe, including Celia’s front porch. When the weres and the Wird sisters uncover what’s really going on and who’s behind all the attacks and killings, they discover something more sinister than they could imagine. And it turns out that it has its sights set on Celia and her sisters. Lucky them! I actually liked this plot more than the one in the last book.

The characters are my favorite part of this series. I’m usually not very good when it comes to remembering names and keeping their personality straight when there are so many involved, but they are all so distinctive and well done, that I don’t have that problem with this group. I can honestly say that I love all of them, but in different ways. I will say that Taran and Bren are my favorites (shhh don’t tell the others). Taran with her badass exterior and softer heart, and Bren with his laid back, smartass ways are both personalities I gravitate to the most.

Of course, I love Celia, too. She and her inner tigress are becoming quite a force to be reckoned with. The stronger and more confident she becomes, the more I love her. I just wish Aric would have a little more confidence in her when it comes to fighting bad guys, because I find it sexy when a man fights side by side with his woman. Though, there was a glimpse of that at one time. I like that we find out why they had that instant attraction in the first book, but at the same time I’m glad their relationship plays out in the books over a period of months.

Personally, I didn’t think there was enough of Misha, Celia’s sexy master vampire, in this book. I can’t help but to love the way Misha pushes Aric’s buttons when it comes to Celia. Hopefully we’ll get more of him and his interesting family in the next book.

A Cursed Embrace definitely has more sexytime in it. Actually, I don’t even remember any in the first book. So I enjoyed the addition of that, especially the more humorous moments. Also, one thing you can count on in this series is fight scenes, and they are abundant in this book. I love action, but the amount of it did wear on me a little. Other than that, this book was awesome!

I can imagine people might have an issue with the ending, but I loved it. There are good cliffhangers and there are annoying cliffhangers, and this one definitely fits in the former because it made me even more excited for the next book.

I know I’ve probably said this a million times, but I really do love the Weird Girls series. If you have any interest in kick-ass urban fantasies, then you need to read these!

  5. Yeah! so happy this series continues to kick ass. I love Taran too. I really liked those male pissing contest scenes in the first book so I am sad that they aren’t present in this one. I am closing the tour so I will be reading this soon. I also already won a prize pack on Ali’s blog! This is my lucky week!

Really? They had an intent attraction, which we find out why in the 2nd book, but they weren’t even really together in the 1st book and that took place over a 3 months or so. They didn’t even actually become a couple until this book. So I didn’t get that their romance moved too fast at all. Especially when it comes to paranormal creatures – lol.

      • She sees him on the beach once, and then can’t stop thinking about him. And when they came together, I felt things moved too fast. I can’t remember if they actually even kissed now lol, but the intent and the over protectiveness happened too fast for me. Was it over a three month period? Again I can’t really remember but it seemed quicker than that. Every time they were together just annoyed me lol. I got about two thirds in before I gave up 🙂 If it’s explained in the second book, maybe if I’d gotten that far I’d have been more tolerant

Yeah, it was like 3 months, and then this one is 5 months or so. I totally hear you on the over protectiveness, though. That was an issue for me with this book, dude needs to chill and let his woman fight! lol!

OMG… I love the sounds of this book! Love that cover, too ; ) I always wonder if the author has any life experience that they put into their books? I am also wondering if the author could choose ANY author to work with, who would they choose and why? This author can be alive or dead! Thanks for sharing with us and Thanks for the giveaway!

OMG!! Great review! I’ve been major fiending for this series ever since I read an excerpt from book one! Living vicariously through PNRs, I wouldn’t mind being caught between a vampire and werewolf or Fey Prince and a vampire. But in reality, I would probably be too chicken sh*T to ever be in the middle of that:)
