Two months ago, the Tunnels of the underworld came for Nikki Beckett. That night, Nikki's boyfriend, Jack, made the ultimate sacrifice. All Nikki wants is to save Jack before it's too late. All Cole wants is to find his queen - and he thinks Nikki is the one. Both determined, both desperate, Nikki and Cole form a tense alliance, leading them on a dangerous journey to The Heart of The Everneath.
Brodi Ashton!! You did it to me again! The woman is killing me with this series. When I finished Everneath last year, I was an emotional mess and needed time to recover. I loved that. But what were the chances that Brodi could get the same kind of reaction from me again with Everbound? Turned out those chances were pretty damn high, because I need time to get my emotions under control and reflect on it all!
Everbound picks up about 2 months after Jack sacrificed himself for Nikki, and time is running out if she wants to get him back. Cole is nowhere to be found and everyone thinks Nikki had something to do with Jack’s disappearance. The only way Nikki can save Jack is to find Cole and somehow get him to take Nikki to the Everneath. Yeah, that should be easy.
I do want to say that everyone should definitely read Neverfall (book 1.5) before reading Everbound. This is one of the few novellas I’ve read that actually adds a lot to the next book. It’s from Cole’s POV and takes place during the couple of months after Everneath. So yes, read it!
I was a little worried in the beginning of Everbound, because Nikki was such a downer. I know, she had ever right to be, but I don’t think I could have taken a whole book with her like that. Thankfully, she becomes a woman on a mission once Cole shows up, and I loved the change in her. She got more feisty and … mean with Cole. Which he totally deserves. I have a very complicated relationship with Cole. It’s not that I don’t like him, because I do. In fact, I kind of love him in a twisted way. It’s just that I have never trusted him. Never. I understand him, I really do, especially after reading Neverfall. I feel for him and his struggle with his feelings, but that doesn’t mean I want him anywhere near Nikki. The guy doesn’t know how not to manipulate people. So that’s why I got a little bit of pleasure out of it when Nikki was mean to him.
While they are in the Everneath, I loved all of the stories they were sharing. The memories of Nikki and Jack always made me smile. Another thing I liked was that Nikki’s love for Jack never wavered. Not once. No matter how her feelings for Cole may have evolved, she wasn’t wishy-washy about her feelings for Jack; he was always her priority.
The Everneath itself was a very interesting place. I really enjoyed having some of the journey set there, but sometimes it started to get kind of old. So I’m glad the author shook it up a little with Nikki periodically going back to the surface. The inclusion of Will and Max was great, too. Will was loyal and was willing to fight for his brother, and Max was loyal to Cole. This is another reason I was glad I read Neverfall first, because I understood the depth of Max and Cole’s relationship going into Everbound.
Overall, Everbound was a wonderful sequel. The author took me through a wide range of emotions, and pulled through in a big way at the end. She ripped my heart out! And I loved every second of it. I have absolutely no doubts that the next book will be just as great, if not better.
I just have to add the following for those who have read Everbound. If you haven’t read it yet, do not read the following! I mean it!

I loved the first book and for some reason a lot of people didn’t and that surprised me. I fell in love with Brodi’s writing and the concept that she created. I would say I have a love/hate thing going on for Cole too but after reading Neverfall it made it worse.
I am so glad you liked Everneath just as much. I can’t wait to read it!
So, I most certainly skipped your spoiler there. π I haven’t read this yet, and I can’t wait. Great review. I am going to make some time for this one really soon.

I still haven’t recovered from Everneath. :'( I don’t like Cole, I don’t want him within a mile of Nikki, much less of an entire book with her, even if it’s to go get Jack back. She better. *shakes fist* And yes, I looked at the spoiler because I’m that kind of masochist. No, I don’t feel very well.
*sits in corner*
Great review, you. π Now I’m going to have to read it and be all aggravated. So..uh, thanks.
Barbara!! You weren’t supposed to look! Hurry and read it. I think it should be one of your tbr reads this month.
You know I couldn’t resist clicking on that spoiler, It doesn’t since I have not had a chance to read this series. I want to but haven’t had the time. I am glad that you enjoyed it and I really do need to make time for this one!
I actually won the second book but have yet to buy the first! Must go do that soon!! Love the review, and thank you for the warning! π I love that you do that.
Ok i bought the novella, and eek gads i wanted to click on the spoiler but i am reading this next
I didn’t love the first book. I didn’t feel a connection to it really at all. But I’m still curious about this one and picked up a copy for some reason. And now that I saw your review I’m more interested in picking it up.
Thanks for the heads up about Neverfall, I definitely need to read that one first. So glad you enjoyed this one! I’m really looking forward to reading it. Fabulous review! π
I own both books, plus the novella and still haven’t started it! WTH, am I waiting for? I need to get on these soon. Thanks for keeping the spoiler hidden!
These covers are so gorgeous! I’ve been trying to read Everneath for over a year! LOL I must get to it!
Great review Christy. I felt the same at the start of this when Nikki was down in the dumps but it was great when she perked up and got tough. I loved the flashbacks too, we didn’t get too much insight into her relationship with Jack in Everneath. I’m torn between Cole and Jack, I can’t decide, but I was starting to trust Cole so I really didn’t see the ending coming. I was really glad I’d read Neverfall too. I’m not a fan of Novella’s and normally don’t so I was glad that I asked on GR and was told, definitely yes!
Yes, yes, yes! You reflect my own opinion of Cole perfectly! I loved his character, and I loved everything he brought to the book, but I seriously don’t trust him at all either. And after the way things ended… well, I just need the third book right now! So glad you enjoyed this, Christy! π
Oh my sweet goodness..i am over 50% done…lovin’ it! ( i know i already commented but just had to tell ya)
Haha – Mmhmm.. read my spoiler when you finish it.
