Title: Incarnate
Author: Jodi Meadows
Published: January 31, 2012
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Series: Newsoul #1
New soul
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.
No soul
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?
Heart
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?
Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.
Our lovely host asked me to write a post about romance, what with Valentine’s Day coming up soon, and if you know me at all, you know how much I love a good love story. So I thought I’d share my top whatever fictional romances.
The criteria:
1. They must make my heart go pitter patter.
2. They must keep me thinking about them for days or weeks after I finish watching/reading.
3. They cannot be written by friends. (Which might seem weird, but I have a lot of talented friends and if I tried to include them all, we’d be here all day. I recommend friends’ books all the time, so you can see those most anywhere else I’ve been.)
In no particular order. . . .
Peter and Olivia in FRINGE – This is one of my favorite TV shows of all time for many reasons, but I love the romance because it’s so hard-earned and built on a foundation of complete trust. Plus, no matter how many weird things happen to Peter and Olivia that would make most people question their desire to kiss the other, these two just take it all in stride.
Alice and Hatter in HATTER – I was late to the party with this miniseries, but when a friend sent me a YouTube link to the final scene, I knew I had to watch this for context. Because oh my heart.
Meliara and Shevreath in CROWN DUEL by Sherwood Smith – This story book has one of the cleverest, most charming courtship phases I’ve ever read. I’d tell you more, but that’d spoil the story.
Marnie and Raven in THE RAGING QUIET by Sherryl Jordan – This book hit all the right buttons for me. Marnie is so patient and understanding, and Raven is a sweet, wild mystery. I hugged this book when I finished reading.
Sophie and Howl in HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE by Diana Wynne Jones – What can I say about Howl’s Moving Castle? It’s such a funny, brilliant book, I don’t think there’s anything I could say that hasn’t already been said a thousand times. Their relationship, the way it grows, had me swooning for days.
Charlotte and Mr. Woodstone in A CURSE DARK AS GOLD by Elizabeth C. Bunce – These two had a lot to work out, especially with their pride and money issues, but the way they are together just makes me so happy.
Lizzie and Mr. Darcy in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen – Again, what can I even say?
Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in TANGLED – The way this relationship shifts from two people trying to use the other into two people trying to save the other makes me so incredibly happy.
Giselle and Robert in ENCHANTED – Repeatedly, Robert tells Giselle that he doesn’t do something. Meanwhile, she’s changing his life. And when he has no other way to show her how he feels, he makes this seemingly small gesture that changes everything.
So, I’ve shared mine. What are some of your favorite fictional romances? (Yes, you get bonus points if you say Ana and Sam. ;))

I don’t have very many favorite romances but the ones who stand out are Jane Eyre and Rochester from Jane Eyre and Rose and The Doctor from Doctor Who. I’m sure I’m forgetting someone.
Sadly I don’t know many of these romances except Rapunzel and Flynn Rider!! LOL But that is a great pick! Loved Incarnate and I can’t wait to start Asunder!
I love your list of favorite fictional couples – Darcy & Lizzie and Peter & Olivia are two of my own favorites. I also like Will and Tessa from The Infernal Devices and Caleb and Olivia from The Opportunist.
I am anxious to read Asunder and see how everything plays out. I did enjoy the romance between Ana and Sam as it was a slow burner. Hmm for my fav couples: Scarlet and Rhett, Cat and Bones, Clara and Tucker and Allie and Noah. Great post ladies!

I also just finished Incarnate last week and I still keep thinking about it over and over again. Sam and Ana and the way they slowly grew to depend on one another was so lovely.
