Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett has the unique ability to travel through time and space, which brings him into Anna’s life, and with him a new world of adventure and possibility.
As their relationship deepens, the two face the reality that time may knock Bennett back to where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate, what consequences they can bear in order to stay together, and whether their love can stand the test of time.
-sigh- You know that feeling you get after reading certain books, where you don’t even want to start another book because you just want to bask in the afterglow and maybe do a little daydreaming about it? Yeah, Time Between Us was like that for me. I loved it!!
First of all, I can’t even express how much I love time travel. Movies, television shows, books… I love it all. As much as I love it, I’m kind of picky about it because I hate when there are inconsistencies. Let’s face it, inconsistencies in a time travel story are way too easy to make. So it is great when I find one that is complex, well thought out, and consistent. Time Between Us was all of that, plus so much more. What can I say, I’m secretly a sucker for a beautiful love story.
Bennett, 17, is from the year 2012, and Anna, 16, is from the year 1995. I loved Anna so much. She’s smart, athletic (I have a major soft spot and respect for runners), works at her family’s bookstore, and is just one of those characters that are easy to like. Anna dreams of seeing the world and having a “daring adventure.” Bennett can time travel, and when he goes back to 1995 to find someone, he meets Anna. I loved Bennett too. He has a 2012 shaggy haired skateboarder style, so I thought it was funny when Anna and her friends would make comments and tease him about it. Speaking of friends… I adored Emma, or as Anna’s dad calls her “Anna’s Brit.” She had the best personality, and it cracked me up how she’d always pinch Anna’s cheeks. I loved her protectiveness and assertiveness.
Time Between Us did it all for me, taking me through many emotions. Believe it or not, I actually love when a book can get me to cry. However, this book didn’t make me cry out of sadness…. well, maybe some, but it was mostly a mixture of sadness and happiness. It’s hard to explain without giving spoilers, so I’ll just say that I love when a character finds that inner-strength and has those moments of self-discovery and growth. Sometimes it just makes me so damn happy and emotional. There are also plenty of sweet moments between Anna and Bennett that forced me to smile. A lot. My face was sore by the time I finished the book.
I loved the entire story that unfolded, but I do wish a certain something would have been answered. It’s nothing that’s detrimental to the story, but it was the whole reason he was there in 1995, so a little explanation would have been nice. Other than that, I’m so in love with this book. I’m not a reread type of person, but Time Between Us is one of very few I’d like to reread. I can’t wait to read what Tamara writes next.
Oh, I love those kind of books! Although, reading books where it takes me a bit to read another one because it was SO good is a bit depressing because I’m suddenly thrown in a “WHY DID IT END” mood. But I’m so happy you loved it! I have been impatiently waiting to read this 🙂 And I love when a book can make me cry too! I love it when there’s so many emotions and it’s even better that you smiled a lot too!
Great review, Christy!
Ha Ha! Your face was sore because this book forced you to smile? That made me LMAO…..I must check out this book to see what made the ice princess melt….
It was a workout!
I agree — I prefer time travel romances to all other kinds of time travel books!
A little time travel, so good that you want to sit and daydream? Yes, please. this sounds wonderful! What a great review. I have to know what that little something is now. Detrimental or not, I am of a curious nature.
I love anything to do with time travel too, but, like you, I can be quite particular about it. This book sounds brilliant though! I know what you mean about reading something great and then not wanting to pick up anything else afterwards. 🙂 Great review!
Wow this sounds so good and I love that you found it to be consistent. The characters sound well fleshed out as well. Adding this one to my list!
I enjoy time travel too. Thanks for the review and introducing me to this book, it sounds so good.
Yay! I love time travel books! I got this one in October when I met the author and ber description and reading had me dying to read it. Now I just need to fit it in!
Fit it in! Fit it in!
I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy a time travel book but yet, I’ve never read one. This one definitely sounds worthy of being my first lol. Great characters and a ride on an emotional rollercoaster…….sounds great. Great review Christy
I definitely think this would be a good 1st TT book. You must read it! 🙂
I had to LOL at the ‘forced you to smile” comment.
I am so glad you loved this. I bought it on release day because I love time travel books too and it sounded like a great read, plus, the cover is kind of kick butt. I love it for some reason.
Great review and I am so excited to start this one now!
Lol – seriously, my poor face muscles got a workout. Read it soooooon!
I just finished this book and loved it as well. I think it ended so well, I smiled so much with this book. It’s just so sweet! Bennett and Anna were such great characters, and I loved their relationship. And I agree with the unanswered question, about his reason for him being in 1995, I would have liked to know what else happened with all that.
I recently found out that Tamara is working on a sequel, so maybe we’ll find out in that one. But I would’ve liked to know in this book.
I didn’t know about the sequel, thanks for letting me know. And I also hope we found out 🙂
Lol!!!! And here I was thinking I was the only one who COULDN’T start another book because I’m still coming off the high of the last one!
This is wonderful! The last time travel book I read was Tempest, which was dreadful and before that, The Time Traveler’s Wife and we all know how that turned out. And nyah nyah, you can’t even make me buy this because I have it! Great review, I’m so glad it made you smile. 🙂
Wait, how did it turn out for The Time Traveler’s Wife? That is my #1 most favorite book! Don’t crush my heart, Barbara. Don’t do it!
Well if you’ve read the book, you know how it turned out, silly!
I only watched the movie because it had Eric Bana in it. I still bawled my eyes out during the whole thing.
-whew- I thought maybe the reading experience didn’t turn out good. I didn’t like the movie, it felt like I was watching cliffsnotes of the book. It was disgusting how much tears and snot I secreted at the end of the book. lol
Well yeah, of course the movie wasn’t as good literature-wise as the book, but it had Eric Bana. And he was naked. How can you put a price on that?
So you just wanted to see Bana’s Banana.
I totally swooned over this book!! Can not even say how much I loved it! So glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. And I agree, this definitely needs to be a reread!
So glad you loved this one too! And I agree about the ending and wanting a bit more info about why what was going on in 1995 and why Anna had to do what she did. The romance was so sweet and I loved all the characters.
It’s rare that I have a ‘book hangover’ but it usually takes a really awesome one or a really terrible one to do it, lol. I’m glad you enjoyed this as much as you did. It sounds rather sweet and has an awesome concept.
i loved this book . i agree a mix of sadness and being happy . great review
