Corinne lives an average teenage life working at her dad’s cafe, hanging out with her best friend, and trying to forget a falling-out with her almost-boyfriend Mason. Things take a strange turn when she uses her late grandmother’s food dyes for a bake sale, and her customers suddenly find her irresistibly alluring. Then she discovers she and Mason are haunted by the same dreams of a dark force that consumes everything in its path.
Pursued by shadowy figures and a crazy woman with secrets from the past, Corinne must find out who her grandmother really was. In her quest to unravel her family’s history, she learns she is destined to protect this world--and the dark world of her dreams. She races to find the answers she seeks before her nightmares break free.
I love when books flow so smoothly, that I don’t even realize that I’ve reached the end. And then that’s when the depression sets in. *sigh* When I started Pyxis, I honestly didn’t know what to expect, or what specifically the story was about. Not knowing actually made reading the book even more interesting.
The story centers around Corinne, a 16-year-old sophomore in high school, who notices that certain people are acting strangely after they eat some of her goodies from the school bake sale (No, they weren’t special brownies). Guys who she never talks to are hitting on her, girls who are far from being her friends start acting all fangirl around her, but she doesn’t know why. Corrine and her bff, Angeline, figure out what’s causing these changes, but then things start really getting weird.
Not only does Corrine start have scary strange dreams, but her friend Mason is having the same ones, too. And they find proof that Corrine, Mason, and Angeline are all tied together in a way that’s more than just their friendship. Unfortunately, the only people who can help her are her grandma, who recently died, and her aunt, who is suffering from dementia. So, the three of them must figure out what’s going on and prevent whatever is in their dreams from seeping into their world.
I liked Corrine and her family. I totally felt for her on the whole double standard issue with her brother, though. And I loved how Corrine and Ang performed “experiments” with the cookies. I would totally have done that! Then there’s Mason, so yummy. He’s calm, patient, and protective…. oh, and he’s major hot stuff. I seriously love certain little moments between Corrine and Mason.
Overall, I really liked Pyxis. I definitely have to read the next book, because I need to know what happens! I’m dying to find out more about the convergence and who is going to be the 4th in their group, but I have my suspicions on who it will be.
Isn’t the cover gorgeous?!
