My name is Amelia Gray. I'm the Graveyard Queen.

Restoring lost and abandoned cemeteries is my profession, but I'm starting to believe that my true calling is deciphering the riddles of the dead. Legend has it that Kroll Cemetery is a puzzle no one has ever been able to solve. For over half a century, the answer has remained hidden within the strange headstone inscriptions and intricate engravings. Because uncovering the mystery of that tiny, remote graveyard may come at a terrible price.

Years after their mass death, Ezra Kroll's disciples lie unquiet, their tormented souls trapped within the walls of Kroll Cemetery, waiting to be released by someone strong and clever enough to solve the puzzle. For whatever reason, I'm being summoned to that graveyard by both the living and the dead. Every lead I follow, every clue I unravel brings me closer to an unlikely killer and to a destiny that will threaten my sanity and a future with my love, John Devlin.

Ah, it was so good to be back with Amelia the Graveyard Queen. I loved the first three books a lot, but after a couple years without a new book, I started to lose hope that we’d ever see her again. But here we are four years later with Amelia back in our lives. Hooray! I do wish I would’ve at least reread the previous book, but it was still easy to jump right in to The Visitor.

It didn’t take long for the creepiness to appear. A ghost is haunting Amelia and is leading her down a path that will change her life. I love how there’s a mystery in each book, but they’re connected to the overall story. The whole mystery surrounding the Kroll cemetery and the people involved is totally engaging and very well done! Especially when it came to figuring out the connection to Amelia.

Then there’s Devlin. What in the world is going on with him? Something about him has changed since the incidents in the previous book, and it doesn’t seem to be anything good. He’s always been mysterious, but now it’s something more. I love Devlin and Amelia together, though. They have this chemistry and heat between them that sizzles. I’m dying to know what’s in store for them, but also extremely nervous.

The Visitor was definitely worth the wait. The creepy atmosphere, great mystery, and wonderful characters reminded me why I love this series so much. I’m super happy it’ll be a shorter wait for the next book.

The next book comes out in September, so a much shorter wait. You should definitely read this series, though.

I think there were hints, damn, I want the whole story. And why was Devlin working at the Institute all those years ago? Oh, I have many questions. lol

  1. I am pretty sure that I have the first couple of books in this series. I remember reading the prequel and I enjoyed that but I never picked up the first full book. Four years is a long time to wait for a new book. I am glad that you enjoyed this one. I really need to start this series. Great review!

I wouldn’t suggest reading them out of order. Each one has a mystery or whatever that’s wrapped up, but there’s an overall story arc that connects them. Kind of like Kate Daniels and Charley Davidson.

I was afraid I’d lose interest after all this time, but thankfully didn’t. Haha – me too. Too bad we didn’t know it would be such a long wait for this book. I wouldn’t have plowed through the first three so quick.
