As some of you know, I rarely participate in blog tours anymore. However, I’m such a big fan of Rhiannon Frater’s work that I couldn’t refuse this one. Today I’m bringing you a review of The Mesmerized. There is also a giveaway at the end of the post. Just click on the image above if you want to follow the rest of the tour.
It is silence, not screams of terror, which proclaims the end of the world…
Minji Nordim is vacationing in Las Vegas with her small family when she witnesses the beginning of a terrifying apocalypse. When humanity is transformed into mindless drones by a terrifying supernatural event only Minji appears to be immune.
Thousands die instantly, but the other affected people are drawn to the Nevada desert. Nothing stands in the way of the mesmerized. Not fire, not heights, not rubble. As the bodies pile in the streets and the relentless wave of the mesmerized plods into the deadly desert, Minji is trapped in a burning city attempting to rescue her affected family.
Can one woman save her family and the world?
I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Rhiannon Frater so far, and The Mesmerized is no exception.
The Mesmerized takes us on a chilling journey with Minji, who just wanted to enjoy her Las Vegas vacation with her family. But it all goes to shit when the masses of people either drop dead or become mesmerized and start walking in the same direction – sometimes falling to their death. Talk about vacation from hell! Especially since her own loved ones are affected.
I don’t really find zombies, vampires, or any other monsters scary, partly because there is still that sense of control. You can fight or outsmart them, have a chance. But when something completely takes you over without warning, body and mind, losing all control and awareness – that’s creepy. And then if you’re one of the unaffected who don’t even know what’s causing it, never knowing when you could suddenly become … mesmerized. No thank you!
I can always count on Rhiannon to write strong heroines, and she didn’t let me down with Minji. Yes, Minji is a strong female, but her fierce devotion and protectiveness of her husband and children is what I love most about her. I love how the mother-child bond played into this story – absolutely beautiful!
There are a couple of secondary characters who are wonderful, as well. It’s a very diverse group, which was really cool and reflective of the real world.
So what’s causing the mesmerized and why is Minji unaffected? That’s the big question that I’m obviously not going to answer, but I will tell you that I was glued to my kindle as the story unfolded. It’s intense and completely engaging.
Overall, The Mesmerized is splendidly horrifying!
Lucky you! You can get The Mesmerized at the reduced price of $2.99 during the tour. Don’t miss out!
