VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

And here we are, the end of another trilogy. I was both anticipating and dreading reading The Forever Song. I loved The Immortal Rules, but then hit a couple of snags with The Eternity Cure – I still liked it a lot, though. So it all came down to the last book, and thankfully, Julie Kagawa pulled through! The Forever Song was an exciting journey full of ups and downs with surprises along the way.

As some of you may already know, the second book had a heart dropping ending, and now we have to deal with the outcome. As Allison, Kanin, and Jackal hunt down Sarran before he completely obliterates those who are left in the world, Allison struggles between keeping her humanity intact or succumbing to the demon inside her. That’s what I like about the vampires in this trilogy, they are monsters. They acknowledge that, and no matter how good they are it is a constant struggle to keep that demon at bay, but it’s a choice.

Once again, Jackal stole the show. The guy is such a sarcastic ass, and I enjoy every minute of it. I love how Allison and Jackal are like too bickering siblings, Kanin their ever patient father, and Sarran the bat shit crazy uncle. I would find Jackal annoying if I were in Allison’s shoes, but it’s funny from the outside. The dynamic works really well.

One of the issues I had with The Eternity Cure was there were moments that made me groan from annoyance because they seemed so unnecessary. The Forever Song was free of those moments, so I was very happy about that. There is a lot of action and fighting though, and sometimes that wears on me. It did a little bit here, but I also liked it because there was actually a reason for every one of them. The fights weren’t inserted at random moments for the hell of it, there was something that came out of them. Whether it was someone being tested, someone getting the sense knocked into them, someone having an epiphany, or any other reason … there was purpose.

I am very pleased with how The Forever Song turned out. Definitely a worthy ending to the trilogy.

I’m trying to do that more, have all or part of the series before I even start it. Hope you like it, Jessica.

  1. AHHHHHH! Book Depository better hurry up their asses and send me my pre-order. But, that’s what I’m feeling now, I can’t wait to get my hands on it but I’m scared because I’d like to forget that lovely little Eternity Cure cliffhanger. IT DIDN’T HAPPEN. NOPE. But I am looking forward to it for just Jackal alone. I absolutely hated him in The Immortal Rules, just ugh, then The Eternity Cure <3. I kind of love him now. See, that's why I love this series, VAMPIRES ARE BAD AGAIN. finally the way they’re supposed to be. And though I do want a good ending, I’m kind of expecting and hoping (okay, not hoping) for a bad ending, I know, it’s mean of me.

You will be pleased with Jackal in this one too. I know what you mean, I am all for a not so happy ending sometimes. I think too many people get all pissy about not having a HEA, so authors rarely go against that.

I got frustrated with EC and started to get mad towards the end. With FS, at least it’s all straight forward. Yeah, there is a lot of fighting that could have been scaled down, but there wasn’t that feeling of pointlessly going round-and-round that was in EC.

Really? Huh. Now I’m curious as to why people aren’t liking this. It is A LOT of action, that was my only one real complaint.

lol – yes, more Jackal the Jackass would be much appreciated. I liked how he pushed Allison, reminding her in a reverse psychology kind of why of what she didn’t want to be.

I’m glad you had a god time with this one, mainly if it was difficult with the last book… it’s always a little bit tricky sometimes. I confess for me this one was a little behind, still very good but I prefered book 1 and 2. Maybe because Jackal wa s alittle Immature or because I thought that Kanin was a little behind regarding the other characters. But It’s still a really great end and it was a pleasure to read it.

  3. YAY! I’m so glad you loved it Christy! I’m both excited and nervous to pick it up as well, I know it’s going to be an emotional ride from beginning to end so I sort of have to shore up my courage first. Love the sound of Jackal – sarcastic a-holes just make me happy (from the outside though, like you said, not so much if I was Allie) 😉

  4. Definitely worth reading for sure. I loved the ending. I loved Allie’s banter with Jackal most! He could get his own series and that would make me happy! Julie renewed my faith in the trilogy with her ending.

  5. It looks like it was awesome foresight of mine to wait to read The Eternity Cure until The Forever Song came out.. that’s right.. that’s what it was.. *giggle*

Sorry The Eternity Code hit some snags for you but it’s awesome you felt The Forever Song was a good finisher! Maybe I’ll finally get around to reading both books this year 😀

  6. I can’t wait to get farther into this one! I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t had time to read quite as much as I usually do, but what I have read is sooo good! I’m glad that you enjoyed the last book Christy!
