SundayPost

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It’s Saturday night and I’m trying to put this post together, but I am so, so, sooo very tired. It has been a crazy exhausting week. On top of that, my son’s good friend suffered a serious brain injury that has scared us all half to death. It’s terrifying when anything like that happens. He is doing better, though, but is still in the hospital over an hour away.

In March I read 14 books, a novella, the two Charley Davidson short stories, and dnf’d one book halfway through. Of those books, 12 of them counted towards the TBR Challenge, which is almost double what I planned to read. I also read the Divergent trilogy back-to-back … blah. I won’t be reviewing them on the blog.

On the Blog

  • Cress by Marissa Meyer – Review. I can’t get enough Throne!
  • Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover – Review. This has cemented a spot as my 2nd favorite book ever.
  • True by Erin McCarthy – Review. Hooray for adorkable characters!

Books Read

Insurgent Veronica Roth

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your son’s friend! That’s definitely a scary situation and I wish him a full recovery. I’m guessing you didn’t like the Divergent books? For me they started out pretty good and then it just went downhill.
I totally forgot to check out the freebies this past week, I feel like I’m a slacker now…*scurries to Amazon*

I’m so sorry to hear about your son’s friend. I hope he’ll be okay.

Those Dakota Cassidy covers are cheerful and make me want to pick them up.

Congrats on your TBR pile reading, that’s fantastic! WOOT!

  4. Oh dear, that can be so frightening, all my best wishes for a speedy recovery to your son’s friend. How old are they?
I didn’t read Divergent – mainly because I got so many books to read for review atm, but with some many reviews of Divergent already out there, I guess what else can one say πŸ™‚
Have a great week and Happy Reading.

My son is 16 and his friend is 18. We’re friends with the family, and my son is close friends with the brothers, so it’s been hard for him.

Yeah, Divergent was good, but the other two … ugh.

  5. I still have to read Allegiant, but I’m a bit scared to start it because quite many people have said that it didn’t have the ending the trilogy deserved. :/ How did you like it?

  6. The brain is the most fragile thing. I’m so sorry to hear about your son’s friend, Christy. But I’m glad he’s doing better.

Anyway, I just started Maybe Someday. I thought I should check out what the buzz is all about. I love Hoover’s books, so I’m hoping I’ll love this one too.

    Happy reading, Christy. πŸ™‚

  7. Sorry to hear about your son’s friend and I hope he has a speedy and healthy recovery!

I read the Divergent series. I liked the first and even the second. But the last…I haven’t even marked it as read on Goodreads yet because I’m still annoyed. *glares at the book*

Those Dakota Cassidy books look good–I’m going to have to add them to my TBR. At this point, I won’t ever get through it, but darn it, I’m going to try like heck!

      Thank you, Kat. πŸ™‚

Yeah, the trilogy went out on a disappointing, sadly. I got tired of all the round-and-round in the 2nd book.

lol – the tbr pile is an ever growing mountain.

  8. Brain injuries are so terrifying, my brother in law had a concussion a while back and it seriously messed with his memory. It has been almost 6 months and he still isn’t back to 100%.

I hope everything goes well for your son’s friend. It must be hard on all his family and friends as well. πŸ™

You have officially convinced me not to read the last two in the Divergent series. I do don’t want to hate the series. πŸ™

Wow, yeah, it is so scary. He’s still needing surgery and all kinds of stuff right now. I hate the hospital he’s in and wish they’d transfer him to UCLA or something better, but they don’t want to move him right now. -sigh-

Honestly, I wish I hadn’t read the last two books, because now Four and Tris are just annoying to me, instead of actually liking them like I did in Divergent.

  9. I really need to read Maybe Someday! Everyone keeps saying that it’s amazing and I don’t know why I still haven’t got around to it even though I have it on my Kindle… silly me.
    Have a good Sunday! πŸ™‚

Thanks, Amir, so do I. Honestly, I wish I didn’t read the 2nd and 3rd book, because I don’t like Tris and Four like I did in Divergent.

  10. Those look like some fun and cute contemporaries. I love how cute the covers are.
That incident with your son’s friend must have really scared you. I know I would be too. Thankfully, he’s OK now. I hope you get some rest this week, Christy!
    Happy reading! πŸ™‚

  11. Yikes! Scary to hear about the brain injury, hopefully he will be on his feet soon. I didn’t have a great week either, but it is better now. I have the first book in the Dakota Cassidy series and I am holding off on requesting the others until I make sure I like the first one so let me know if you get to it before I do.

He still has a ways to go.

Ugh – I screwed up and downloaded the 3rd book without realizing there were 2 more before it. So I just went ahead and downloaded those 2 also, hoping I’ll like them.

  12. I can’t believe you got that many books! Are you sure you’re YOU?? Give your boy a hug for me! I ran and grabbed Red at Night – thx for the heads up on that or I would’ve never known. And I gave my copy of Divergent away (hardcover) w/out reading it. Bleh…

I’m feeling better tho πŸ˜€ Hope things look up this week for you guys…

    • Christy

I know, that’s what I was thinking while putting the post together: Wtf happened to me?! Guess what … that’s not even all of them. Ugh. I actually liked Divergent, I just wish I would have stopped with it and not read the other two.

  13. Ohmygosh! I hope your sons friend gets better soon! So scary.

I’ve been meaning to get Stir Me Up; I’ve heard good things. All My Restless Life to Live is interesting; I’m curious to see your take.

    Enjoy your books, Christy!

  14. I can’t wait to read Cress too but my copy has not arrived yet πŸ™ I’m praying that your son’s friend gets better soon.

Are you going to write a review of Divergent? I’m interested to know what you’re thoughts about it. I didn’t finished that series though. Got tired reading at the 2nd book.

      Thanks. πŸ™‚

I only wrote a few thoughts down for each book on Goodreads, mostly for the 3rd book. I liked Divergent, but the 2nd and 3rd bombed for me.
